A group of women and men from all over the world chose to become "wise in the Word" by reading through the Bible in 2009. We had so much fun in 2009, we decided to do it all over again in 2010. Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart," therefore we are believing God for new revelations and living changing experiences next year.
The Bible we are reading is unique in design. This Bible is chronological. It is written in the order of which the events occurred. For example, in the middle of the book of Acts, you will find Paul's letters to the Thessalonians. It is not the Bible you grab on your way out the door on the way to church, this Bible is made for study. We are reading the easy to understand, New Living Translation. Click here to see the One Year Chronological Bible.
The daily readings can be completed in 15 minutes. Monday-Friday I will do my best to post something on my blog to start the "conversation." All comments, thoughts, and insights are welcome. You don't have to have blog to post a comment. You don't have to post a comment at all. No pressure here. Read each day, visit my site, and glean from others.
Notice I said my very best. I am a mother of two and a wife to Scott. They are my top priority. They know of this commitment and are praying for us but I put them first in my life, after my Heavenly Father.
Here are few helpful hints to help you get started
Be Creative
The first time I read through the Bible, I intentionally went to sit in carline 20 minutes early each day so that I could complete my reading. You may not have a carline to go to but maybe your have a lunch hour. Perhaps you don't work outside the home, turn off Dr. Phil or one of your other favorite shows to complete your daily reading. You can make up missed reading waiting at the doctor's office or ballet class.
Set Boundaries for Yourself
Determine a time and place that your will do your reading and do your best to stick to it. Protect your reading time and place within reason. It is important to be flexible in order to accommodate your responsibilities. The daily reading should take you 15-20 minutes, depending on how fast or how slow you read. Me? I read slow.
Give Yourself Grace, Grace, Grace
I am really hard on myself when it comes to goals. If I seem to be "slacking off" or not quite as excited about the goal as I once was, I am likely to quit. Start this goal with this in mind, "I am going to do this and quitting is NOT an option." There will be times that you miss, life happens, so expect to and extend yourself grace. "There is not condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."
Either on the inside cover or an index keep track of the date you miss and make up the reading when you have the opportunity. If you don't get the opportunity, don't sweat it. God is looking at your heart's desire not a checklist. He will not stop working through His Word just because you miss a day or two.
Support
As I have already made plans to read through the Bible for 2009 I have invited some people to pray for me as I strive to meet the goal. These individuals will also be my accountability during the journey. Ask God who He would have you invite. We will also pray for each other. I will NOT forget to pray for you.
Take Notes and Highlight
You will need spiral notebook, highlighter, pen, and sticky notes. God speaks through His Word and He will speak to you so be ready to write down what He says. I mark up my Bibles with pen and highlighters. I write prayers and praises in the margin. I use the sticky notes if I discover something that I want to research further at another time. The little yellow sticky notes come in handy when a distracting thought comes to mind while I am reading, i.e. grocery items and to-dos.
Beware
There is an enemy, a real enemy who is very happy with a believer's status quo relationship with the Living God. This enemy does not want you to become wise in the Word because then he will lose any power he may have over you. When you committed to read the Bible you added fuel to the fire of Hell and upset the enemy's plan. I have read the end of this book and you win, he loses. Don't let the enemy distract you.

You have read all the above and now for the "fine print.": I am not an expert in anything." I am not a Biblical scholar or person with a seminary degree who knows the Bible inside and out. Honestly, I still have to sing the books of the Bible song sometimes to remember Micah comes after Jonah. I give the stage over to the Holy Spirit who is our Counselor and Teacher. (John 14:27) The stage has been set for Him to do a work in our lives.
Who am I then? I am a little i in the story of the great I AM. I am a woman who loves Jesus and His Word and wants you too also.

The number one thing you will receive from this blog is accountability and support. It is comforting to know that others are on the journey with you. It is also comforting to know that others are struggling to get all the reading done. (And it will happen. Life happens.) As far as my role in the journey, I am an vessel that is willing to be used by the Holy Spirit who will set the stage of our hearts to be written upon and changed by the power of the ancient words of scripture. I too am a student with a desire to be enlightened, inspired, transformed, and surprised by what I will learn on the new journey I am taking.

I am looking forward to taking this challenge. I have really missed this in my life. I am a mother to 5 ver active boys. Four of them have special needs or medical problems. I also have a great husband. I am in school full time for special education so I have a full plate but my days are exhausting and sometimes very draining as I deal with my aspergers/ADHD child. Please pray for me, I really want peace in my life and the joy that God gives. I know he can give me strength.
I look foward to the goal which I have wanted to accomplish for a long time. Starting out is fine but somehow I get lost. I look forward to the support that this will give me to reach my goal with God.
I have never read the bible through in one year and am really looking forward to using the chrological bible. I have four adult special needs ladies living with me and my days can sometimes get so hectic that I lose focus. This program sounds like just the thing I need to keep me on track.

"The little yellow sticky notes come in handy when a distracting thought comes to mind while I am reading, i.e. grocery items and to-dos." I honestly thought this was my lack of focus and spirituality...thank you, God & Wendy, for showing me once again that I am not alone. This is a tough challenge for me as my husband & I own an income tax business & the first 4 months of the year we work 18-20 hours, 6 days/week BUT that's also when I really NEED to be in the Word. I'm looking forward to this experience.
This is a wonderful challenge, which I am excited to accept and with the Power of the Living God will go forward in faith that He will work wonderous things each and every day of this journey. I am very excited about this Bible. The last time that I read through the entire Bible in a year was when I was a child. That is how I came to accept Christ as my savior. I have done many studies, but never read through the entire Bible in a year...I think I may have attempted it, but had no accountability to others...so this group will be very helpful. Question??? Can we purchase the Bible in the NIV version? I saw it was available in both.
The Lord operates my accounting business and tax preparation so that I may be used as a vessel for the Lord's will during that time with people's needs.. not just finances. I share this with you to encourage the tax preparers to know that the Lord will open time if you ask to allow you to do this challenge. Never did I find time but the Lord made time in the last 30 years. Each day that I have read His Word before starting my day - even in exhaustion - and under serious stress - I have never experienced a day he did not use that reading for encouragement, not usually for me directly but for another that blessed me more by being allowed to share in the experience. Praising the Lord for this sharing I encourage you to do this study maybe not even for your own knowledge but for blessings in sharing it with others THE LORD brings that needs His Word shared with them. No, I am not an evangelist, just a common person as most of you may be.. Allow God to use you as a vessel and praise Him for the blessings you will receive by doing so. God's blessings to you for the next year(s) to come..
Hi Wendy, I desire to take the challenge, I want to grow spiritually to learn more about the truth in His word. I'm glad that you understand about being a mom and the daily demands of life. I am a mother of two great boys and an amazing daughter (college student), I am also a part time student and full time employee. I am in the middle of a divorce and I seek the Lord's truth to bring me closer to him and to be a humble servant. I look forward to taking this journey with you and all those willing to take it too.
Well Wendy, count me in...I have owned the Bible that we are going to use since about 2007 and have picked it up and put it down SO MANY TIMES!! I was reading yesterday's devotional (11/2/09) and I seen the challenge and the Lord instantly said "Here's your chance" So I am in...we start Jan 01, 2010, right?
I am so blessed to have found this blog. I have been praying that I would somehow get into my Word more. I am a busy work at home mom and I have never read through the whole Bible. I have read new testament but not much of the old. I always start in Genesis and then get bogged down in Numbers so I am really hoping I will be able to do this with your help. Please keep me in your prayers. I really need it. It seems as though the devil is right there each time I try to pick up my Bible.
Thank you so much for doing this!!
I looked forward to joining with this group and reading through the Bible this year. Sad to say I didn't accomplish that. I finished up my chemo in April and my husband went into the hospital and had quadruple bypass surgery and repaid of an aneurysm. He was in the hospital for 7 weeks. We are both doing well now, but needless to say, I didn't do my Bible reading, got way behind, and finally gave up. I want to try again this coming year. Thank you so very much for this opportunity -again. I don't have 'excuses' for this year - just got overwhelmed.
Hi Wendy,
I am excited about 2010, a new year a new beginning.A year of coming closer to my Lord. I am looking forward to having this time together with you all.
Susan
i am looking forward to doing this with all who is participating in 2010...we just need to pray that God helps us and gives us the strength and will power to keep up on the word...also to open our minds and hearts to be able to share with everyone...
I am also looking forward to finally reading the Bible completely through next year. I purchased a One Year Chronological Bible yesterday and have started reading it already, and plan on starting again on January 1st and complete it on December 31, 2010. Thank you for your support and encouragement.
I am looking forward to this challenge & am ready to start again... I started earlier this year & got so overwhelmed that I got behind & farther behind but I'm going to take time, make time & stick to it this time. ;-)
Wendy
Thank you so much for starting this Bible study. I have set a goal every year to read the entire Bible, and I have never succeeded. I am in school to obtain a B.A. in Human Services with a minor in theology. I became a Christian because I saw my Grandma read 3 chapters of the Bible daily. She read the entire Bible every year for years. It was at least 20, maybe more. I hope to do the same.
Alice
Count me in! Thanks so much for the opportunity to read and journey through the Word together!

I as the other ladies accept this challenge. I have always wanted to read the bible through and always end up stopping half way through. I think this challenge as well as this type of bible will help me meet that goal. I love the NLT version and look forward to reading your daily post for encouragement. I know it will be hard as I have 3 very active young boys so they keep me busy from the time my feet hit the floor.
I've been searching and looking at different Study Bibles. I know I asked youab the NLT version on another post, but if I choose another version, will that effect your daily devotion posts? Like today you were talking about Stephen who got stoned. And I have borrowed a friend's chronological Bible that is NIV. For today, Nov. 9th, I read about Jesus' Final Journey. Was I reading the wrong post, or do different versions have different readings for each day? Thanks for your time. I am really looking forward to reading through our Master's Word in 2010!
Looking forward to participating in this blog in 2010. Can't wait! :)
Looking forward to this and the accountability!
I am looking forward to this task. Never ever done anything like it before!
Wendy - I would like to join you for this challenge. I also bought the NIV version (the store did not currently have the NLT version), but have not unwrapped it. Does anyone know if this version will be okay to use for this challenge? If not, I can exchange it.
Tracey
Please visit my friend Sharon Sloan at joyinthetruth.blogspot.com. She used the NIV last year. I know she can give you some good insights. she answered questions for Jules the other day.
Wendy
Wendy - WOW, thanks for the quick reply. I did end up returning my NIV version and then bought the NLT version at a diferent store - on sale, no less!!
I'm so excited to get started, as I've not read through the bible before. I am rededicating my life to the Lord and want to study His word more ~ what a great way to start!! I look forward to taking this journey with all of you.....
Thank you, Wendy, for leading us through this challenge.
PS - Great idea on the yellow sticky notes!!
I am a 66 year old grandmother. I love the Lord and have done many Bible studies but have never read the entire Bible. In the last few years God has given me the desire to know the chronology of the Bible, and when I read your post, I knew this was for me. I look forward to learning and growing together. Thanks for the opportunity!
I have never read the bible in Chronological order before. I am looking forward to this. I start on things but somehow I get sidetracked and don't finish. I am looking forward to having someone helping me keep accountable to reading God's word.
I can't wait to try this! Just bought my Bible today:)
Count me IN!!! Going to get my Bible this weekend! God has freed me from the things that have hindered me in my relationship with Him, so I am all in for this.
I am purchasing my Bible tonight. I'm very excited to start this journey beginning January 1, 2010.
I look forward to joining your group again....I tried it this year and failed miserably about half way through. Thank goodness God is so patient... This time will be different! Looking forward to diving into the Word with everyone!!
