" For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on His shoulders. And He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6
The power this verse should give every believer is indescribable. The peace it offers passes all understanding. It was foretold. Long before we were ever here on this earth the God of Heaven knew what we would need in 2009 and sent the answer to our need in the form of a tiny baby. This baby, the Savior of the world would do more than just save us. He would be our:
- Wonderful Counselor when we need wisdom and guidance. Counselor means to advise, consult, give counsel, counsel, purpose, devise, plan, to consult together, exchange counsel, deliberate, counsel together. He sent us this counselor in the form of the Holy Spirit. (John 14:26)
- Mighty God who fights for us when we feel defenseless. Sometimes we just get worn out and have no fight left in us. Our Mighty God fights for those who have no one to defend them. (Psalm 72:12)
- Everlasting Father who consistently is when life consistently is not. Everlasting Father means forever, (continuing); ancient ( of past forever); ancient (of past time); forever (of future time); of continuous existence (Hebrews 13:8)
- Prince of Peace who steadies our way when turmoil seems to surround us. Peace means completeness, soundness, welfare, peace; completeness (in number); safety, soundness (in body); welfare, health, prosperity; peace, quiet, tranquility, contentment; peace, friendship of human relationships. Who doesn't need this kind of peace? of peace? (John 14:27)
It all started when God so loved this world that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believed Him would not perish. We are the "whosoevers". The prophecy fulfilled provided for us not only eternal life but life abundant. (John 10:10) Oh, what a God!!!

Wendy, thank you for the beautiful summary of Isaiah 9:6. What an amazing and powerful prophecy that Isaiah foretold! A revelation that the messiah was to come! "The passionate commitment of the LORD of Heaven's Armies will make this happen" [9:7] No matter what we're going through today, we do not have to walk in darkness! We can follow the great light, JESUS! He's there to lift the heavy burden right off of our shoulders...
I love all the little treasures today...check out 11:1. "Out of the stump of David's family will grow a shoot-" My Study Bible stated, "The Messiah will grow as a shoot from that stump of David's dynasty."

I really enjoy when I read prophecy and foreshadowing of Christ. I would like to know more if Isaiah's verses were sometimes referring to the second coming of Jesus....I felt they were.

Wendy, what a treasure of a post today. Thank you....again.
Here is my verse for the day: “But can the ax boast greater power than the person who uses it? Is the saw greater than the person who saws? Can a rod strike unless a hand moves it? Can a wooden cane walk by itself?” Isaiah 10:15
My husband is into tools. He has a large, well equipped workshop in the basement of our home. Router, table saw, lathe, drill press, planer, joiner, compound mitre saw etc… Oh, I can hear Tim Taylor from “Home Improvement” grunting already. Each piece of equipment is designed for a specific purpose. Each is unique and valuable, yet accomplishes nothing unless placed in the hands of a skilled workman.
“No instrument or tool accomplishes its purposes without a greater power.” “When a tool boasts of greater power than the one who uses it, it is in danger of being discarded.”
This is true of us, as God’s instruments as well. “We are useful only to the extent that we allow God to use us. If God has given us resources and special talents, we must not regard them as our own creation or special privilege.” (Life Application Study Bible, NLT.)
Father, it’s not the I, but the You in me.
“Every good thing I have done, everything that I’ve become
Everything that’s turned out right is because You’re in my life.”
(1995 David Mullen, Da’dra Crawford, Steve Crawford, Mary Tiller; Word Music/ASCAP)
How has God gifted you? Are you using those abilities for and with Him? It is my desire to remain a channel only. Do you remember that old hymn?
“Channels only, blessed Master
But with all Thy wondrous power
Flowing through us, Thou can’ts use us
Every day and every hour”
In His Hands,
Joy
PS. Girls I have just received word that my older sister has gone a permanently removed my Dad from the hospital. I have no idea what is going on, as my family is at out trailer up North today. Please pray that she has not acted in haste. I know she is frustrated with the system, but this won't help anything. Feeling helpless up here, but know God can hear my prayers. I know my Mom cannot handle Dad at home. Please pray for her too. Thank you.
OOPsss...sorry about the grammar/spelling in my PS. Needing urgent prayer and my mind wasn't functioning clearly.
Joy,
Your family is in my prayers! Keep us posted!
Thank you everyone for all you insight. Morgen, Isaiah's verses are foreshadowing the coming Messiah. Infact Isaiah 53 is a big reason, even today that people with long Jewish heritage, convert.
Joy, one last quick thing, the verse for today on Biblegateway is:
“But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.”- 2 Thessalonians 3:3
Keep stong!

Wendy, thank you for pointing out such strength points in our reading today. For me it use to be so easy getting caught up in the “quick fixes” of the world. Wonderful Counselor meant the best self help book on the market. Safety was something I always sought but seldom felt. Peace, quiet contentment seemed to elude me when I tried to fill the space with “things”. As it is stated in God’s word over and over that He is all we would ever need. Today it is the greatest feeling in the world to know that no matter what comes my way, there is nothing to big for my God. Today I feel His love surround even when the stormy winds of change are upon me.
Gracious Heavenly Father I lift my sister Joy to you tonight. Lord you know the situation and the reasons for everything. Please bring comfort to Joy and her family at this very hour in only a way that you can. Calm fears and work in lives so that only honor and glory comes to you in this situation. This we ask and praise you for what you have and will do. Amen.
Hugs Joy and sweet dreams ladies,
Diane
Wendy, I loved your explanations/definitions of the words describing Christ. They are keepers for my journal today! Thanks for taking time to do that. So appreciate it!
Joy, May God give you peace of mind, contentment of heart, and the comfort of his love and care so that you are able to have a good nights sleep and enjoy your time away from home. Your Dad is for sure in God's hands while you are away. Thinking of you.
Love from Debbie in Illinois
