Awe Gripped
"Awe gripped the people as they saw
this majestic display of God's power."

Luke 9:43

My Take Away

Something Old:
So thankful God is long suffering with me and continues to put up with me.

Something New:
Luke 9:38
This was the man's only son just like Jesus was God's only son.

Something to Do:
Ask God to grip me in awe with a majestic display of His power.

I just kept thinking, "Ouch!" the whole time I was reading today. That our faithlessness hurts Jesus to the point where he not only reprimands us, but wants to get away from us, hurts. I want to overcome my unbelief and grow my faith and be obedient just so that I don't disappoint Him.

I also didn't know that this incident - Jesus and the disciples healing the possessed boy - happened the day after the Transfiguration. Kinda puts a different spin on it in my mind; Jesus told the disciples they didn't have enough faith, and if they didn't have enough faith on the day after seeing Jesus meeting personally, body aglow, with Elijah and Moses and hearing God's own voice, when WOULD they have enough faith? What would it take? Yet ... what does it take for me to be bold and go all out for Him? to stop making excuses and obey instantly, even when I don't understand? to step up and stand out and look different? do I let comfort and convenience get in the way of obedience? Unfortunately, sometimes, I do. I don't want to be the one Jesus wants to get away from, but the one He holds close like the child. God, change me from an unbelieving disciple to a child of Yours.

I believe that God can awe us everyday is we just open our eyes.
Right now He awes me with the rescue of the Chilian miners. Would we ever think we'd see a day that that scenario would play out? And I heard it announced that at least 2 of the men became Christians while stuck in the mine.

I have had a couple of occasions where God spoke to me so directly it could not be ignored; like a loud voice in my head. That was awesome! I had a feeling come over me like I've never had before.

We just need to open our eyes and see God's awesomeness. It's everywhere!

Good morning, GIGs,

I have been in awe of God's majestic power many times, and because of this, I had my toes stomped on in today's reading (Matthew 17:20) You don't have enough faith," Jesus told them. I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it would move. Nothing would be impossible."

There is something regarding my husband that I should be praying for, and I am going to resolve today to do so. I will be pondering on "mustard seed faith" today to identify other areas where my faith is weak and I need to step it up!! I need to remind myself (thank you, Wendy) of those awe inspiring moments, and remember that nothing is impossible with God.

Have a blessed, 4:8 day, all.

Peace and Gratitude,
Michelle in New England

P.S. I think I missed Wendy's Proverbs 31 devotion about next year's study. Can anybody tell me what day it ran?

Good Morning!
Last evening as I observed the first man being lifted up after 69 days a half-mile down under the ground – seeing his face – the faces of his mom and young son – I was gripped with God’s power. I know it had to be faith that kept those men alive down below. The tears and hugging as the miner stepped from the capsule that freed him from being trapped for more than 2 months captured my heart. The Chilians have been gripped by what would happen to these precious miners. I was gripped by total awe last night to watch the event taking place. I only saw the ‘first’ one, and am hopeful all were lifted up along with the rescuers that risked their lives for the men.

Last week I was gripped in awe as I saw God speaking through the thunder we had. Never, have I seen such power in weather around me. Heavy rain, large pellets of hail – the volume, the intensity- the forcefulness in the way it poured down gripped me! Only a God of the universe can make weather do that! For the first time, I could hear Him speak while it was coming down. I knew He was angry with AZ. He was trying to get our attention to repent and return to Him. Time is running out. “Return from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23).

Today, Wendy my eyes landed on the very same verse that yours did! As we are allowed to see His “majestic display of God’s power” (Luke 9:43) – we know without a doubt that we can boast in His name! He is our El Shaddai! Our All – Sufficient God! No matter what situation we are in, no matter what – He will be there to supply each one of us with whatever we need. 2 Cor 12: 9 & 10 ~ tells us that His grace is sufficient for us, because His power is made perfect in our weakness. Which means we can boast about our weakness, so that Christ’s power may rest on us! We should delight in weaknesses & hardships, - as our hardships are the perfect opportunity for the display of His divine power…And, the perfect way for us to be gripped in awe over something He can do. ”Awe gripped the people as they saw this majestic display of God’s power” (Luke 9:43) – Jesus rebuked the evil spirit and healed the boy.

Lord, awe me today. Grip my heart and give me more reasons to praise your Holy name. Lori

I noticed today that Matthew (occupation tax collector) was the only account of this miracle so that Jesus and Peter could pay their taxes.

Also, it really struck me how important forgiveness is! How what I hold against people is nothing in comparison to my sin against God. I owe the million to Him and they may owe me a thousand. Yet, He forgave me but I often do not. Yikes! I do not want the consequence of this!!! Lord, please help me to forgive everyone immediately from now on!!!

In my own life God has "awed" me so many times. Because it is the anniversary of my Mom's death I have been remembering all the many ways he ministered to me and all my family during her illness. Mostly with his mercy and faithfulness.
May we all be in awe of how much He loves us and takes care of us in the details of our lives today.

Praise and thanksgiving, Wendy!

I continue to praise the power and awe of our loving God in the transformation of the heart of our son this year! In February he was in a place of despair and emptiness, with self-imposed estrangement from his family, drawn to friends who pulled him down farther, addicted to a life of alcohol and marijuana, barely maintaining a job that only supported his lifestyle, trapped in a big city with no transportation or support.

When there was nowhere else to go, God stepped into this picture and lifted Michael into His loving arms. He carried him out of the darkness, opened his eyes and heart to see the goodness of what life can be, and He gave him the courage to take a chance with recovery. He placed him into the loving care of people who provided Michael with the necessary tools to begin a new life. God cleaned house in his heart!

This young man is now living in the Light. He is glowing, happy, loving life, contributing to his world. He has hope. He acknowledges the work of God in his life and understands that we are weak without Him.

This experience has not only changed the life of one young man, but it has changed the hearts of family and friends, and so many others as a result. God's power will continue to move hearts as we continue to witness to the good news of hope and caring of our loving Father! He still works miracles! We are proof.

The prayer and support of this group has been so instrumental to us, lifting me up and lifting him up throughout these months. God led me to this study in January to stir my heart to become fertile for the works He was prepared to do for our family. The fact that I even joined this study, something I had never dreamed of and so out of my comfort zone, is a witness to His power and awe as He is changing my life! Thank you Wendy, and all of you.

I just praise our God for the bountiful gifts, large and small, that He brings daily to us all, as well as His amazing and complex plans that unfold before our eyes!

Praise be to God! It is so wonderful to hear how God is working amoung us. I also had answered prayer for one of the things I have been lifting up for our 30 day challenge. And isn’t it amazing when the situation is humanly impossible but God shows His hand in it. The “Encouragement For Today” blog this morning relates to this. On Lysa TerKeurst’s blog she talks about answered prayer and unanswered prayer, to remember that God does not waste our FAITH. If you have time, go check out her blog.

Good morning, Gigs! Wendy, praising Him for the majestic display of His power that you and Scott have seen in this current struggle.

These nuggets are quite powerful! Lots to think about when I go and run in a few minutes.

I do have a time when I stood in awe of Him and was gripped by the majestic display of God's power. There are many other times, but this was the first one that came to mind. When my oldest was 9 (he's 17 now), I was rubbing his little shoulders and felt a knot under his skin. We immediatley took him to the dr. The dr. felt that he needed to see a pediatric surgeon. We took him to the best in that field. When the dr. felt it, he told me that he was 99% sure that it was lymphoma! As I sat there in shock---trying to hold it together so that Austin would not see my fear, I started praying. The dr. scheduled surgery within the week. Y'all, we had that child on all known prayer chains! God spoke to my heart through a precious friend of mine, and I felt His peace that surpasses all understanding. I knew that God was in control, and that everything was going to be fine. The day of the surgery, I was the only upbeat one! His peace was still flowing through me. After the surgery, which was not long, the dr. came to speak to Craig and me. He was shaking his head. Again, he said that he was so confident that it was lymphoma. But, when he opened up that area, it was a hemangioma! A mass of blood vessels under his shoulder area! So, he simply closed him back up and left the mass there. It has not caused any problems in almost 9 years!

God's display of His amazing power was shown to us and those on the prayer chain that day! He is good and He is faithful and He is simply awesome!!!Praise Him!!

Hugs!

Sweet Sisters, my fingers can not type fast enough, I am excited to share with you my walking experience! I left w/ Wendy’s teaching on my mind…asking the Lord to show me a revelation today! To awe me today! I did not expect it to happen on my walk! I walked and prayed…came home to drop my dog off -(he was tired out) and was compelled to turn on the TV to check on the rescue efforts –to see what had happened throughout the night…the first thing I witnessed was the president of Chile announcing his thanks to God! (PTL) Shortly after I heard him say a - ‘a miracle!’ I left to finish up my walk with this on my mind. I thanked the Lord for the miracle of those lives that have been rescued as of now. Then…it hit me. I firmly believe that there was a strong believer, underground - all these 69 days. A man of strong faith - that pursued daily, calling out to His Father in boldness. In faith! He did not waver to the right or to the left, but he fervently prayed to God to save their lives. I just believe this to be true. That fervently and incessantly he called out to the Lord, daily, most likely, all day long! I’m believing that this brought peace and comfort the group of men down below, and that quite possibly others’ may have been saved during their trial.

Then, something that I learned recently in my Revelation Bible Study came to my mind… many strong Bible teachers in the world interpret the rider of White Horse, as symbolizing, ‘the proclamation of the gospel of Christ in all the world.’

“And the gospel must be preached to all the nations” (Mark 13:10).

As I was thinking about this belief of scripture interpretation -(nothing of course that we know to be true) -what did come to my mind, that IS true…is that today, right now, with the internet, National TV, and media, we do have the ability to share the gospel to the entire world in the course of ONE day. Yes, this would be a miracle, but anything is possible with God. It is my prayer, that as the day goes on, and as the stories are told of the happenings below during the past 69 days, - that God will be mentioned! That a miner will boldly announce to the world: “My strong faith saved me. God delivered me from the mine and He saved our lives! Glory belongs to Him alone.” This is what I want the entire world to hear – at one time! And, I’m praying that this one rescue miracle will show the world the light! That the gospel of Christ will be seen in the entire world today and in the days to come! Does this grip you in awe girls’, as it did me? Or am I crazy? Yes, dear sisters, I am crazy in love with Jesus, even more so after my walk, than before!!! To even think that God showed me this verse early this morning, and then, that quite possibly it may play out, this one verse in the entire world! Sweet sisters, our God, has the ability – to grip the entire world in awe, at one time! Let this happen, today! Yes, it is a miracle that the lives are being saved, but another miracle could come about through it – a miracle of the gospel being preached to the entire world at one time! Holy goosebumps!

I’m praying that open hearts will be gripped in awe as they witness the stories of the faithful Believers. That this horrific ordeal will shine glory and that unbelievers will now turn into believers. That those on the fence will see the light, and leap onto the straight and narrow road! That those of little faith, will become strong and faithful followers. That God’s name will praised, and honored in every country of the world. Dear Father, may your will be done on earth, just as it is done in heaven. May you come back quickly! Amen. In complete awe of God, Lori

“And the gospel must first be preached to all nations” (Mark 13:10).

“Awe gripped the people as they saw this majestic display of God’s power” (Luke 9:43).

Today, dear sisters may this one verse that we read together across the miles play out for the entire world to see! It my hope, that the entire world will be gripped in awe, as the gospel is preached to every nation in this world.

“For nothing is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37).

Loving Jesus, Lori

PS The second miner said, something like: “I was with the devil and God, and I reached out towards God…” AMEN. Holy goosebumps, and what our Father is capable of doing in one single day!

PPS I LOVE seeing the scriptures come true in front of our eyes!

Wendy, so excited to read your comment above. Praise the Lord!

I think the thing that saddens me most about your question today Wendy, is the story I would recall happened 5 years ago. That to me is heartbreaking. Oh, I know the Lord has done wonderful things in my life over the past 5 years, but that memory of a majestic display of His power isn't a yesterday story...or a today moment.

I shared that story here: http://princessjoyful.blogspot.com/2008/06/beyond-my-wildest-dreams.html so anyone who wants to read it can click over and read how God's hand rested so personally on me.

Part of a verse is playing into this for me today: “…they were afraid to ask him…” Luke 9:45

Part of me is afraid to ask for a display of His majestic power today in case it doesn't happen, and I'm just not in a good place for a 'no' today. Being honest.

Desperately needing to see Him, but afraid to ask,
Joy

I agree the God is awesome! Last time I stood in awe of God is when I prayed that my sons would be saved, an get closer to God.

Last year one of my son's said that every Friday at 6:00 he and his buddies go to Bogangles for breakfast, and does a Bible Study! Last year they studied the book of James. How awesome is God! They still continue to do this.

I also agree that what is happening with the miners is another act of God's awesomeness! I pray everyone of them gets out safely, and comes to know the Lord better.

Nothing is impossible with God!

Praising God, Wendy for your majestic moment in your current struggle. Thank you for allowing us to pray with you and share in your moment just a little bit!

My majestic moment that really stands out, though there have been many, would be at the time of my mother's death. Our family was faced with tough decisions - disconnecting her from life support- but we were all of one accord and the decision was clear to us from the Lord that it was time to let her go on to be with him. We could not have had that unity and that peace without the awesome, majestic power of God. The snapshot moment that captures it for me was looking at my mother's bedside as my father sat by her, laying his head by her side and holding her hand... a tender moment I shall never forget. You see, they did not always have a close, loving relationship but at the end of her days they were together as one. My mother left this earth knowing full well that her husband loved her and was devoted to her.
Peace that passes all understanding in the face of death - that is God's awesome, majestic power - that still carries me through the darkest of days when I desperately miss her so much.
Never would my family and I get through the loss of my dear mother without God!

Have a wondeful day, FIGS!

I stand in awe today at the majestic power of God as I watch Claire playing.

Let me tell you all about my morning yesterday. I was on the verge of hysterics as I seen Claire starting to show signs of having another seizure!

My mind instantly started racing and I held her in my arms after I gave her medication. As I waited for the meds to kick in I was trying not to go to the dark places of my mind.
She fell asleep and I laid her in bed and grabbed my Bible, for comfort. I read today's reading. Directly relating to the father that was dealing with his son's seizures! Wow was God speaking to me!

And today with Wendy saying to tell of a time I witnessed His majestic power...it is every moment I look into Claire's eyes!He gives her life, when the medical world said she would never have one.
The scriptures that really jumped out at me was Mark 9:24 "I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief"(I guess I was in some unbelief yesterday) and in verse 29 when Jesus replied,"This kind can be cast out only by prayer" So, I asked Jesus to pray for Claire. Something I have never asked.

I hope I am not rambling, but I just cant write enough about how much God used this scripture about seizures to speak to me about my faith with Claire! I wish you could all see the majestic power of God in Claire's eyes and how He works the miracle of her life everyday!
Other times I have met His majestic power is each time we have been sitting at Claire's bedside in the pediatric intensive care unit! There are really no words to explain what this is like.

Wendy, I also witnessed His majestic power when I saw you and Claire meet at She Speaks! It was one of the most beautiful moments!Really what God wants life to be all about. You are a good and faithful servant Wendy :)

Standing in awe and praise of our Majestic God and the moments I am honored to witness!

On Friday of last week, I left a request for prayer on one of your Prov 31 partner's blog for my 24 y/o daughter who recently told me that she wasn't sure if she was a Christian. She discribed times, when people who professed to be Christians, had exhibited mean spirited behavior toward people who needed their help. After many discussions and much prayer, I requested prayer.

On Monday of this week my daughter called and asked for specific references that I had mentioned to her and she asked for me to pray for her! God's Magestic Power!

Hi Everybody,
What an awe and majestic break I just had reading all of your majestic moments. God is so good.
There’s not a victory without a fight.
There’s not a sunrise without a night.
There’s not a purchase without a cost…and
There’s not a victory without a cross.

Don’t know how to put mine into words….Wanting a child for over 4 yrs.
Mike working long days on the family farm. All our friends and family having families of their own. Lead me down a lonely depressing road. Food was a crutch…it was there for me.
…..Deepest hr. one day made a call to a Christian treatment center for anorexia /bulimia.
….once out there….Me only getting 1 phone call to make…calling crying and telling my husband to come get me this isn’t where I belong….They searched me like I was a criminal.
…..Each session in art therapy. They kept trying to get out of me if I was molested in some way. I had to draw a picture of my home. It was a nice home with you guessed it flowers around it. They couldn’t understand??? Why I drew such a perfect home.
….While there…7 days into it another period came. My therapist telling me to grieve you just lost another child.
….My grandmothers death brought me home early…God telling me to move on.
….After funeral Husband and I made the career change…Why not go see the US no children holding us back.
….went to a truck driving school to get CDL (a special Licenses for driving truck). Some memories of this…oh my gosh how am I going to do this. In one of the test to pass you had to back this 18 wheeler around barrels shaped in the figure 8.…All I can say was thanks to my husband & God…he told me when the trailer got to a certain point to hold the steering wheel there for a few seconds and than turn it all the way to the opposite way. Guess what it worked. I did it!! Thank you Lord!! The instructor we had …had a great sense of humor. He came over the CB to me and said, “Boy you got that time out just perfect!” Girls I had no idea which way this trailer was going. The Lord was with Me. I have a knack for backing one of these up…but not around a figure “8.”
….We passed the 8 week session. God starting to pull me out of the dungeon I was in. I was the 2nd best in our class. Hubby was first.
….Got jobs with a trucking company….right from school. Went with a certain trucking company because they trained team drivers. Put down the road, to another hard… hard month. The training instructor was…Oh… lets just say was not one for woman….He scheduled me for all the night driving. I remember driving down this long road tired…tears rolling down my cheeks…looking over in the other seat…the instructor over there getting his rest….sleeping and snoring. Me crying my eyes out and knowing deep…deep down this is not what I want…having a big pity party … “Why ME??” All I want was a baby to hold.
….Second week into it…we got held over in CA. I told my husband I need a break from this instructor. There was a hotel right across from this truck stop. We went and got a room. This man followed us everywhere…He even came to the hotel room…until hubby said to him we can handle it from here. We was put with this instructor for a reason I believe today.
….Long story short….A month later….“Just me and my husband” was back out in CA. A self pregnancy test was taken…… Can you guess it……My AWE!! GOD GREATEST MAJESTIC MOMENT!! It was POSATIVE!! We were going to have a baby!!!!!

Thank You LORD…I love these children you blessed me with so tenderly and dearly. They have grown up so much. Most importantly…these children given to us…This cross is how my personal relationship with you began. You go after every one of your lost sheep.

I am a sinner not worthy of you,
Rhonda

A girl that I work with came in this morning and told me that last night as she watched the miners that one of them said,"There were not 33 mean down there but 34. Jesus was with us" That gave me Holy goosebumps when she said that! God is being glorified through all of this. My awe moments have been when my children have had accidents and walked away with minor injuries when they should have not walked away! Thank you God for revealing Yourself to each of us in mighty and wonderful ways.

Blessed Wednesday!

You already know what Dixie is going to say having just come back from the Grand Canyon! But I will say it anyway.

I am always in awe of God's creation, from the far flung universe to the bottom of the seas. I see beauty in all his creation, yes even the deserts and swamps. The wildflowers that are so beautiful without any human tending. For those who haven't seen the Grand Canyon, words can't describe it. Pictures can't do justice to it. The beauty, the enormity. The same God that created it created me. I saw his foosteps and giant hands forming this canyon of beauty. I also remarked to my children how everyone seemed to speak in quiet voices, "inside voices" as though in a cathedral - and it is - God's beautiful handiwork. I will not live to see outer space but hope to enjoy the universe with My Creator some day.....

Everytime I fly (not often anymore) I look down on our planet and see the insignificance of humans and our weak endeavors, I think of the verse "what is man that thou are mindful of him?" and send my thanks to him that he loves little ole me and Jesus died for my sins so that I can live eternally!

A simple, human thank you is not nearly enough, Oh God. but my heart sings with awe and praise. Please help me to remember it every day.....Amen

Our God is an awesome God!

Please say a prayer for the (innocent) Zahra Clare Baker Family. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the 10 yr old cancer survivor went missing this week, and was found murdered in her father's place of work. (A tree service company.) May God have mercy on those involved and offer healing to those hurting. This happened only 30 minutes from my home. Thank you for your prayers.

UPDATE: On the case above, Police said it was not that little girl. They still have yet to find her, but is saying it is still a murder case. Please pray for our local Police and FBI as they search for this little girl. Thank you!
