The Pope family is embarking on a milestone this weekend. Are you ready for this? We are getting a flat screen television. Our current television is 25 years. It has wood, well particle board on the side. (Remember those-yes there are some still around. that still work.) Channel 4 has no volume. Channel 24 and 31 speak Spanish half the time. After much deliberation we decided to move into this century and get a new TV.
Hopefully, we will be watching the final round of the PGA Tournament in High Def on Sunday. What exactly is High Def? I am finally getting it yet unsure of what it is. Hmm?

When i read jeremiah 31:33 last night, the Lord gave me a picture of a wedding band. words of love inscribed in a hidden place for the beloved to see. beautiful!
and thanks for sharing your dream of teaching at shespeaks. as I taught my first retreats this spring i felt the same way as my dreams from nineteen years ago came true!
oh, and I'm getting a new washer and dryer this weekend. acutally i already got it and learned that my detergent does not even work in it!! but it's all shiny and new!!

You and your family will Love TV in HD! It is a lot like the experience of moving from a black and white TV to a color TV (if any of you are old enough to remember that... :))
Today's reading in Ezekial is one of my favorite in the Prophetic books. The description of the Heavenly beings and of the "Glory of the LORD" as they appeared to Ezekial are so vivid! And I was struck by the way the LORD asked Ezekial to eat His word and it tasted like honey to Ezekial.
10 Then he added, “Son of man, let all my words sink deep into your own heart first. Listen to them carefully for yourself. 11 Then go to your people in exile and say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says!’ Do this whether they listen to you or not.”
Again, we are asked to let the Word of God sink deep into our hearts first. It is true nourishment, good for strenthening and building up. The Word of the Lord never returns empty. By His word He created the universe.
Proverbs 30:5

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Hope you enjoy your new television. Our television is about 20 years old and my husband would really like to get one of those new ones, but quite honestly, we don't watch a lot of TV. We use it to watch DVD's, but we're not TV viewers. Hope you have fun with your new purchase.
We started another week of holidays yesterday, so we're heading up to Muskoka Bible Conference Center until Aug.23rd. The speaker this week is Dr. David Walls. My favourite of the entire summer. I can't wait to sit under his ministry and hear what the Lord will speak to my heart over this next week.

This morning I was confronted with a thought in our reading: “‘But I am afraid to surrender…’” Jeremiah 38:19
Surrender. Not a popular word. It implies giving up. Letting go. Losing.
Why am I so often afraid to surrender?
In a song Steven Curtis Chapman sings, “The Sake of the Call”, there’s a line that expresses the heart of surrender: “Simply because it is Jesus who called, And if we believe we’ll obey.”
Believe what?
That the way will be easy? No.
That God can be trusted? Yes.
It’s not so much believe what, but Who.
Another matter of trust.
Do I trust the Lord with my life?
Surrender means relinquishing control and desiring God’s plans above my own. In surrendering I am allowing God to embrace me fully.
If I really know God, placing my life in His hands should be easy because no-one loves me more. Maybe it's so hard, and I'm so fearful, because in any other relationship with surrender, love and trust have been accompanied with great risk and at times resulted in deep pain.
Surrender to God is not confining, but defining. It is not debilitating but liberating.
“We are must fully alive when we are most fully surrendered to God.”
"For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His."
I long to be "completely His." Don't you?

Wendy, You guys will love the new picture; it is not until you watch it, that you realize what you were missing! We converted just one week ago! :) They told us, "Welcome to the 20th Century!" :) We go by the rule here in our home: if it works, no need to replace it!

Wow~ Ezekiel's opening vision clearly shows the supernatural power of our God! This vision brought my thoughts back to a verse I heard yesterday on the radio: "For nothing is impossible with God." Luke 1:37
Ezekiel remained faithful when he had to leave Jerusalem. How many Christians today can say they are faithful to God daily? If we can be like Ezekiel, and surrender to His will in every situation, the Lord will always be our Rock. Our protection. He will direct us.
The verse: 1:12 stated: "They went in whatever direction the spirit chose, and they moved straight forward in any direction without turning around." This suggests that we are to immediately obey the will of God in every situation.
To allow our God ---that controls ALL of the universe, be allowed to control each of our own situations.
3:1,"...eat this scroll! Then go and give its message to the people...3:3, "Fill your stomach with this...And when I ate it, it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth."...3:10 "...let all my words sink deep into your own heart first. Listen to them carefully for yourself."
Lord, thank you for your words which are alive and active in me. "You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy." Psalm 63:5 Amen.

Surrender. That is something I need to choose to do everyday. It seems on more than many occasions I have taken control back. It is so true Joy that earthly relationships have gotten us hurt, so we are afraid to surrender to God. Lord, help me to surrender to Your will at all times. Very difficult to do.
Wendy - my hubby and his brother are at the PGA Tourney! They went yesterday and said it was great.
I'm enjoying a family weekend at the lake. Also praying for rain here, it's suddenly gotten dry in SW MN.

Hi Def is basically just better quality of picture (120 Hz) and sound (Option of surround sound.) So just think of our current TV multiplied by about a billion, and there you have it! :)
Enjoy your state-of-the-art television! You got a good 25 years out of the other one.
We don't have a flat screen either...one of these ol' days. :)
We do have a DVR and love that.

Lori, a number of year ago as I was reading through the Bible, when I came to Ps.119:165 it popped out at me. "Those that love Your law have great peace, and nothing causes them to stumble." Well, if that is true, then why not turn it into a prayer. "Father, help me to love Your law so I will have great peace, and then nothing can cause me to stumble." In my Bible I wrote beside it...after I highlighted it...I want this!
Isn't it amazing how God makes verses pop out at us when we need them!

It's Sunday morning here and I just finished the reading. I will be heading out to visit a church nearby in a few minutes, but I wanted to comment on today's reading before I go.
Did anyone pause at Jer. 27: 5-7?
5 With my great strength and powerful arm I made the earth and all its people and every animal. I can give these things of mine to anyone I choose. 6 Now I will give your countries to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, who is my servant. I have put everything, even the wild animals, under his control. 7 All the nations will serve him, his son, and his grandson until his time is up.
Is that right? The king of Babylon, who the Lord has also said He will destroy, is the Lord of Heavens Armies' servant! How can that be! Don't forget the dream King Nebuchadnezzar had which Daniel interpreted. King Nebuchadnezzar was the head of gold, but succeeding generations would be inferior until you reached the feet of clay. Then his time was up.
God put King Nebuchadnezzar on his throne to serve God's purpose. God's purpose was to bring the people of Israel and Judah into submission again. But God would remember the evil deeds of the Babylonians and would destroy them in the end; in His time.
We need to remember that we do not have the long view. We only see a piece of God's plan, and often it makes no sense to us. But God is faithful and just. He works all thing to good for those who love Him. In these texts from today, He also continues to tell the people that if they are righteous, and submit to Him, they can live freely in the land He gave them, they won't be captive; they can eat from their harvest. They are the remnant. This is something I think is true today. We need to humble ourselves, submit to God, listen to His word, and follow him. Then He will protect us, defend us, redeem us, and allow us to live in the midst of His provision.

I just have to share with you my experience with yesterday's reading.
I am preparing to speak this coming Friday at a Fall Bible Study kickoff at a rather large church. With school beginning this week and lots of other things happening, I was wondering how to get everything done and prepare too.
In my own reasoning, I thought I should first spend time yesterday preparing my speaking outline. Instead, I really felt the need to read yesterday's reading. So I did.
I was amazed when I read these words in Ezekiel 3:10-11.
"Then he added, "Son of man (I read my name here), let all my words sink deep into your own heart FIRST. Listen to them carefully for YOURSELF. Then go to your people..."
Girls, I sometimes cannot believe how God intervenes in our lives to tell and teach us what we need. How did He know that on August 15th, I would need to be reminded about the importance of spending time in His Word, to read it for myself, before attempting to tell others? that He would take care of the timing issue if I obeyed first.
Rather than worrying about the preparation and the words I am to speak, I am focusing today on letting His Words sink deeply into my own heart. May we all learn this lesson together.

This weekend, I have been taking time to reconnect with my darling husband. He and I have been so busy with life that there's been no time to just relax together. We watched some movies, snuggled, and talked until we ran out of things to talk about. I love it when that happens!
Hope you are doing well and catching up after sHe Speaks. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed meeting you!!! It makes me wanna hug you right through this computer screen! Oh, well. Guess you'll have to settle for me stalking...uh, reading your blog as often as I can!!!
