The root word of righteousness is righteous which means to be characterized by uprightness or morality; morally right or justifiable. The Lord is Our Righteousness is our just and righteous God who will be just and righteous on our behalf. This name and every name in the list above should bring such great freedom to us. We can rest in and on His names as our strong tower as we walk the paths of this world.
For me, at this season, as I walk the paths of this world He is El-Olam. He is Everlasting. He is free from all time constraints because He is the author of time. He has asked me January 1 to trust Him with my time. He constantly kisses me with reminders that He holds time in His hands. What great peace this knowledge has afforded me!

Such a good question and so hard to choose! I know I have shared before that I spent the first half of the year reading Anne Spangler's book "Praying the Names of God" and for me it is so powerful to pray the names that describe your relationship with God at that moment or season of your life.
For me, right now, there are three (I don't follow directions well...:))-
* YAHWEH-SHAMMAH: "The Lord is There”
The Lord is here. His presence fills me. Even though the verses from Ezekiel remind us that no-one can enter the temple when the Glory of God was present; the last verse predicts the change that Christ will bring.
"“This gate is to remain shut. It must not be opened; no one may enter through it. It is to remain shut because the Lord, the God of Israel, has entered through it. 3 The prince himself is the only one who may sit inside the gateway to eat in the presence of the Lord. He is to enter by way of the portico of the gateway and go out the same way.” Ezekial 44:2-3
Now the Lord is present in us, with us, and through us. As the readings in Jeremiah Sunday remnded us, God goes before us to prepare the place we are going (even to Switzerland) and He also prepares us for arriving there and fulfilling His purpose.
*YAHWEH-ROHI: "The Lord Our Shepherd"
God is leading me. He is protecting me. He defends me, He guides me, He hems me in and He comforts me. He will not let me get lost.
and
* EL ROI: "God of Seeing" (or God who knows me).
Like Hagar at the well, I have a God who sees me. He knows me most intimately. He watched over my coming and my going. He has numbered the hairs on my head and written my name on the palm of His hand. He knows my in-most thoughts, fears, worries and re-assures me that He has it covered. I can rest in Him.

I'm with Karen I find it hard to pick just one - He is the reason I live. Never before did I have regrets until I knew I hurt Him and even with remorse and regret for past sin, I feel peace because He is YAHWEH-SHALOM - The Lord Our Peace and I know I am forgiven.
YAHWEH-JIREH: My Provider I have no lack He gives me all I desire.
YAHWEH-RAPHA: The Lord Who Heals From Broken nails to Broken hearts I am made whole.
This makes me think of that song - but I can't remember the name or writer. If I remember I'll comment again.
And one last one - Griped by fear from the manipulations of those who controlled me for most of my life, I was fearful of everything and everyone. Now I respectfully fear the one that keeps me, holds me and gives me everything I will ever need, to never fear again. Name above all other names ever to be spoken or written, a name so special it was unsure how to translate YHVH

Wendy, it amazes me the number of times since January that I have been struggling...debating between writing about two different portions of scripture in our daily reading. Finally I choose one, write my daily thoughts, then hop over here and you have written about the other verse. It just thrills me every time that happens! :)
How wonderful to spend time reading these names of God. Each one holds a special meaning and it's so hard to choose. Like Karen, it's so hard to settle on one. I need Him to be ALL to me.
Two are standing out to me: EL SHADDAI, because I need to know God's ultimate power over all that is touching my life right now; and YAHWEH, specifing an immediacy, a presence. "Yahweh is present, accessible, near to those who call on Him for deliverance, forgiveness and guidance."
So thankful, that although in different times and seasons in our lives, one of these names may be more evident than others, we don't have to choose just one. He IS all to me!
This morning I wrote about Jeremiah 49:23, "Their hearts are troubled like a wild sea in a raging storm." I shared about my drive home just this past Sunday night in the worst storm I had ever driven through. My heart often matches natures unsettled display.
Praying the Lord will take my tumultuous, anxious heart and calm the "wild sea" and "raging storm" in me.

Who is God revealing Himself to be at this time in my life...Wow, is that a good question. I had to do some thinking on that one.
YHWH/YAHWEH/JEHOVAH - LORD! God is present, accessible, near to those who call on Him. I have always believed in God, but He is teaching me more and more that He is in my life always, in all things.
YAHWEH-JIREH - "the LORD will provide" He is certainly teaching me to stop trying to do it on my own (I am very stubborn in this area), surrender to Him and receive the benefits of being His child.
YAHWEH-RAPHA - "the LORD who heals"
Again, God has been so good to me here. I have had several major health issues that brought me to my knees. It was in desperation that I finally sought out the God to heal me and in His mercy and love, He is. Thank you Lord!
I was going to get myself in a real tizz this morning about some frustrations my mom is facing - Thank you for the perspective change!

Determined to pick only one for this exercise, I meditated among three:
YAHWEH JEHOVAH - because I am so aware of his presence within and around me
YAHWEH RAPHA - because I have witnessed and experienced his healing powers
YAWEH JIREH - because he so faithfully meets all my needs
In this season of blessing and healing, I have to pick YAHWEH JEHOVAH. God has delivered me and he continues to forgive and guide me, which in turn provides for my needs and continues to heal me. :)
The immediacy of his presence at all times is everything to me - I could not function without it! My peace and my strength come from the knowledge and the reality I can call upon him at any time to banish the enemy from my thoughts, guide my actions, or bless and forgive others.
He is SUCH an amazing God!

At She Speaks in the prayer room I was given a name of the Lord where my name was placed. At the opening session we were told that the staff at P31 had been praying for each of us in attendance. Each name had been specially placed on a name of the God. Mine was placed on;
Jehovan-roh
The Lord is My Shepherd
(The Lord protects, provides, directs leads and cares for his people. God tenderly takes care of us as a strong and patient shepherd)
I wrote it down and knew that my name had been prayed over. The name of the Lord that I was put gently placed on was so fitting in my life.
He is My Shepherd.
He is my Protector.
He is My Provider.
He is My direction.
He is My Strength.
He gives Me Patience.
Without Him I am nothing!
This is my truth and this my life!

Wendy, Love the names that show us the many facets of our God's character!
I do think all apply as you suggest at different times and seasons of our life.
The two that fit the time and season of my life are:
Yahweh-He is a presence in my life, he is accessible to me always and in all ways.
Yahweh-Jireh-trusting that God will provide. It seems as my husband and I have journied through this life when a door closed a window opened...and I judge that was not just a coincidence....but a Godincidence!
It's all about putting my total trust in Him for our needs.
Well maybe there's three...
Yahweh-Rapha-The Lord who heals...So many layers of life experiences peeled away for a healing freedom like I have never had before! Praise Yahweh-Rapha! Amen!
My attention was turned to Jeremiah 2317-19, 24 and 27
These verses remind me of today's world as the worldly scream "intolerance", we are asked to be tolerant of an anything goes culture and society. I think not, even Jesus was intolerant!
"They keep saying to those who despise my word, 'Don't worry! The Lord says you will have peace!' And to those who stubbornly follow their won desires, they say, 'nor harm will come your way!'
Have any of these prophets been in the Lord's presence to hear what he is really saying? Has even one of them cared enough to listen?
24 Can anyone hide from me in a secret place? Am I not everywhere in all the heavens and the earth? says the Lord. (What a comfort and reassuring verse.) We may try to hide...but he is always there...The ONE who sees...ElRoi!
27 "By telling these false dreams, they are trying to get my people to forget me, just as their ancestors did by worshiping the idols of Baal." There is so much going on right now to not allow even the name of God to be spoken or written in public..media etc.
Prayers for the world right now...we are a disobedient people! Trying to keep my eyes upon the Lord and be bold in proclaiming what He has done in my life! He Lives! El Roi!-He is a God who lives and sees all! El-Olam! From everlasting to everlasting, YOU ARE GOD!

Oh Wendy, thank you for this list. Like Diane, (and all of you next year :o)), I found my name on God's name at She Speaks. Mine was on "El."
The definition at She Speaks said "mighty and strong." Seeing the rest of your definition Wendy that says "prominent" just reinforces God's tender words to my heart that "It is no longer about me, but Him." God is to be prominent in my life!!

I feel drawn to : El Elyon - Most High. My Lord is at the top of the food chain....most definitely! He is Lord of Lord's, Creator of all, Owner of everything, King of Kings.....this one helps to keep me in my place.
