My Take Aways
Something Old:
Atonement was made for unintentional sin-foreshadowing of grace.
Jesus', our High Priest, blood was shed as our sin offering like the sprinkling of the blood in the sin offering in the Old Testament.
Something New:
"Become aware of their sin" (known-KJV) in Leviticus 4:14 is the same Hebrew word as know in Exodus 29:46- yada-yaw-dah'
God wanted the Israelites to "know" Him and He wanted us to "know" our sin and to have them forgiven.yada-to know, learn to know, percieve and see, find out, discern, recognize, admit acknowledge, confess.(Strong's 3045)
Now THAT is some good stuff right there.
Something to Do:
Keep my ears close enough to hear the whisper of the Holy Spirit so my sin will be made known to me. Thank you God for the Holy Spirit at work in me.

Wendy, I'm really enjoying your teaching! Again I love how you tied the Old Testament to the New Testament.
Today I focused on the sin offerings in Leviticus 4:1-5:13 and I then looked at Hebrews 10:1-18. These verses talk about Jesus sacrificing Himself once for all. I love how they tie in together. It's hard to pick just a few verses to share but here are a few of my favorites from this chapter in Hebrews. I encourage you to go and read Hebrews 10:1-18.
These verses are from the KJV.
4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

Something Old:
The spiritual beliefs taught by the O.T. are important to remember for everyone who wishes to be in relationship with God today. Sin separates the sinner from God who is holy. Thank you Jesus for dying for my sins, (Heb. 10:12); therefore, there is now only one way to God; Jesus is “The Way” (John 14:6).
Something New:
There were certain conditions necessary to make a sin offering pleasing to God. Every man had to bring his own sacrifice to God. The worshipper had to offer it willingly and take a personal part by laying his hands on the head of his sacrifice to make it a representative of his own sins.
Something to Do:
Even today, to obtain forgiveness we cannot put the blame on others; we must confess our own sins (I John 1:9).

Wendy, You are right-the chart is GOOD. I've seen a couple of different ones, and for me it was still confusing, maybe it's just me. But, this chart is easy to read. And, ALL the info. is right there! Love the scripture references too.
I've heard the "Grain" offering's called "Meat" & "Meal" also. It took me a year to figure that out!

Old: "They must lay a hand on the head of the sin offering"...connecting my sin to the offering about to be made.
New: The kidneys were always mentioned along with the fat removal. Kidneys are important for filtering impurities in our body. Could that be the significance?
Nugget: "The fire must be kept burning on the altar at all times, it must never go out". How do I keep my fire stoked in my holy temple? Bible reading, prayer and Christian company.
Today David Jeremiah's devotional stated this: "Worship is the constant attitude of the heart over which the Holy Spirit is hovering".
May I have a constant attitude of worship in my daily life. Amen.

God recognized that we will all continue to sin unintentionally. "They are still guilty if they don't realize it." The whole point, I believe, is God wants us to recognize when we sin and to repent to him so he can continue to purify us. So thankful that Jesus made that sacrifice for us.

Thank you for the tie-ins between the OT and the NT--I am loving those!!I had become intrigued with the #7 in the scripture today. Then you reminded us that 7 is a # of completion, perfection, and wholeness. The scripture from John when Jesus is on the cross and has just had his side pierced really touched my heart. I had always visualized the blood and water "gushing" from the wound. Now, I think of the "sprinkling" of the blood for our atonement of sins. Easter will be a little different this year with the tie- ins from the OT.

The reading this year is just amazing how it is all tying together! I think this second time around it is really coming together a lot more for me. Wendy, thank you for leading this journey! I will be printing off that chart and putting it in my notebook :)
My nugget was along the same lines that some of you have talked about. It was how over and over how God says when they realize what they have done they must admit their guilt. We may not always realize we are walking in sin, that is why it is so important to be in the Word and be praying every day. I am reading through Proverbs on Wendy Blight's site as well for the next month and chapters one and two is so good about searching for wisdom and fearing the Lord. God will give us wisdom but we have to search for it and the more we do the more we will know and be aware when we are walking in sin.
Today started Lent, I know some of us are participating. Prayers for this 40 day period, I know it is going to be a time of growth with the Lord and change.

What a rich journey I am on!
A detail that caught my attention today was that one of the first steps in all the offerings was to put the sacrificial blood on the horns of the altar. I could visualize the blood of Jesus on the crown of thorns that was placed on His head as He began the ultimate sacrifice of shedding that precious blood for us.
Thank you Wendy and everyone for opening my eyes every day to the depth and meaning within these readings and for encouraging me to reach deeper.

As I read the passage today, I just kept thinking about how serious God is about us keeping his commandments as a devotion to him and for keeping ourselves one on one with him every moment in our lives and how we shouldn't take that lightly.

What a wonderful vlog today Wendy, and how perfect for Ash Wednesday. The two verses that jumped out at me were Lev.5:5 When you become aware of your sin you must confess it. and Lev. 6:27 Anyone or anything that touches the sacrificial meal will become holy.
These verses remind me of communion. Confession of my sin and Jesus sacrifice for my forgiveness and the holiness that results is lived out in the partaking of communion.
My church usually holds an Ash Wednesday service, but for some reason will not be doing so this year. I was looking for a way to somehow commemorate it at home and found an idea at www.aholyexperience.com Although I can not leave a bowl of flour sitting out because of my cat, I will use Anne's idea of confession/repentenance using a bowl of flour at supper tonight as a great way to start our lenten journey.
My big take away was that anyone who touched the offerings will become holy. I thought if only I could "touch" something and become holy. Then I immediately realized that's exactly what has happened. He touched me and made me whole. "Holy" Praise You Jesus!
Also the fire on the altar must be kept burning at all times. What does that mean to me? "I must fan into flame the gift of God which is in me..." II Timothy 1:6. That is what we are doing as we pray and study His Word together.

After today's reading, I am just thankful that I am alive now in the age of grace instead of back then. Everytime I sinned whether I knew it or not, I have to go to the temple. At the rate I am going, I'm gonna be hanging out at the temple all the time! I don't think I could stomach all that blood. Plus imagine having to lay your hand on the head of the animal before it is killed on your behalf. But it is a very graphic visual of what sin does: it deserves judgment, it kills, it leaves a bloody trail and it leaves a stench of death.
New to me: The price of the sin of the priest is the same as the entire nation. Jon Courson said that because we are a royal priesthood (1 Pet 2:9), if we fail in our calling, the whole nation is affected. That is a big responsibility for us. I know personally sometimes I prefer to not turn on the news to see what is going on because it's frustrating. But I need to keep praying for our leaders and the direction of our country.
Also Lev 6:28 "If a clay pot is used to boil the sacrifice it must be broken." I like what Courson said here. "Because we are earthen vessels (2 Cor 4:7) brokenness occurs when sin is dealt with...Therefore, if there is not brokenness or repentance, the issue of sin has not been dealt with. A lot of times, people are sad only because they get caught sinning. But to truly turn away from sin requires nothing less than brokenness." I thought that was appropriate seeing how it is the first day of Lent. Let us search our hearts, confess our sins and turn away from them. God has provided a Sacrifice.

I was struck as were many of you by the timeliness of the message today.
I am reminded for the most part of the need to confess my unintentional guilt and sin. The things I do or say I really don't think of as sin-full or guilt-full at the time. Words which hurt, actions which hurt...stains on my heart I don't even notice...but they are there.
New to me today was Lev 6:18 "anyone or anything who touches these offerings will become holy"...even as I underlined it this morning I came to a new understanding that this is me! What joy!
As I head to Ash Wednesday service tonight, I will carry with me my To Do and To Remember for the day - and that is the power of ceremony. Confession, assurance of pardon, and turning from sin - these things done in fellowship and as a part of a community in front of God. We seek his forgiveness and his correction as a people who seek to forgive and correct ourselves and each other. We are assured of pardon as a whole as well as individuals.
Though this is a solemn day in the life of the church, it is also a day of great joy. The ceremonies many of us will attend today have roots which grow deep into time, into the lives of our ancestors. This is what I want to remember!
Lifting you all up in prayer and with joy and thanksgiving - you are all so precious and so powerful in your love and witness of our Lord,

Today was the day of my dad's birth too. I miss him, as he was taken from earth 19 years ago. I am grateful for the Christian heritage that he gave me, and look so forward to seeing him again!
I am gaining a lot of new understanding thanks to this study about the many offerings and sacrifice in general.
I also focused in on awareness of unintentional sin. I often ask the Holy Spirit to expose for me areas of my life that are displeasing to Him. I really like the imperatives in todays reading. IE Lev 5:5 - When you become aware of your guilt in any of these ways, YOU MUST confess your sin.
It's not merely a suggestion.
Then we can know the we will be forgiven and made right with the LORD.

Wendy, Wishes for a Happy Birthday to Mama Faye. It is right to praise and honor our parents.
Reading about all the ceremonies requiring sacrifice gives me an idea how God wants us to live and to be a clean and forgiven people. I was drawn to the commands He gave about not eating the fat or the blood, isn't that ironic since that is what is so bad for us from the standpoint of blood-cholesterol and heart disease. God is so good!
Wendy, I loved that you added the video with the Hillsong group performing "Nothing But the Blood of Jesus" it brought me to tears.
My take away for today is beware of unintentional sin, those times when my words hurt, my hope is that those areas become more visible to me so that I know to close my mouth before those words can sting.

Worship via song is such an important part of my communion with God, I am so so very blessed to be part of a church with amazing music and to have discovered even more to take with me on my runs with God, bus and bike rides, etc. So blessed :)
Something old/new: I was struck by the different offerings for the different sins and different types of people. I appreciate the wisdom brought to that via Wendy and others, I have taken lots of notes :) And I really appreciate that I can just bring my sin to God and those I have sinned against instead of having to sacrifice an animal. Although, I might sin a whole lot less if I actually had to lay my hands on it then take it's life... Hmmm
Something new: That the Sin offering had to be burned completely with fire, none of the remains could be eaten. I appreciate, again, the insight brought to this, Wendy. What I got from it before listening/reading was that this is what we deserve as sinners, to be burned completely, no parts left, but that our sacrifice took that plight from us.
Nugget: To always keep the commandments in my heart, to kno when I sin, admit my guilt to God and those I sin against and to repent whole-heartedly with gratitude that I do not have to endure the just punishment that I deserve.

Just a quick question on leviticus 7. God gave instructions on how to catty the tabernacle using the oxen. the kohatites were to carry the sacred items on the tabernacle on their shoulders.was this the ark to be transported on shoulders, or how was the ark to be transported?

Well, I turned to my Women of Faith study Bible for some help today and found two interesting things-
They mentioned, as I had also recognized while reading, how the offering expected changed depending on the persons ability-The very poor were not expected to bring the same offering as someone with greater abilities- I just appreciated how God made it possible for everyone to receive forgiveness for their sin.
Also, they mentioned linen and how much of a luxury item it was during Biblical times only worn by priests and wealthy individuals (Leviticus 6:10) and paralleled it to Revelation 19:14- "The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean."
So appreciate everyones comments- they are really furthering my understanding...
