Wendy, I took away the exact same message today, Deut 10:21 - "He requires only that you, MICHELLE, fear the Lord your God and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul."
Wendy, your Dr. Pepper story was a message I needed to hear. I gave up a food I love last month, in order to be a more obedient person (and a healthier one, too), BUT, this weekend I slipped and ate some. I admire you resisting the Dr. Pepper last weekend, and I will renew my commitment to obey in this small way, to build up my strength of obedience.

I landed in CA yesterday and am wide awake at this early morning time even without the DST! I loved the reading and vlog today and the messages from all of you sweet friends yesterday! Wow, where to begin, I have so many burning things to say. My 3 elements are from each of the 3 chapters today.
My Old was Deut. 10:16-18
16 Therefore, change your hearts and stop being stubborn.
17 “For the Lord your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed. 18 He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing."
I love the description of God in verse 17! And wrapped in these verses is also a BIG to do! Show Love!! Give Freely!! Change your heart!! (got it Lord, I am convicted).
My new was Deut. 11:10-11 (I like the wording for verse 11 better in the NIV, so this is from that version)
10 The land you are entering to take over is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you planted your seed and irrigated it by foot as in a vegetable garden. 11 But the land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven.
In Egypt, water came through artificial irrigation and was pumped by foot throught irrigation channels no doubt dug by our favorite slaves, the Israelites. The visual of the land at the other side of the Jorden "drinking rain from heaven" is pleasing to my soul! Hosea 6:2-3 uses the images of rain to foretell the Savior:
2 After two days he will revive us;
on the third day he will restore us,
that we may live in his presence.
3 Let us acknowledge the LORD;
let us press on to acknowledge him.
As surely as the sun rises,
he will appear;
he will come to us like the winter rains,
like the spring rains that water the earth."

Rather, you must seek the Lord your God at the place of worship he himself will choose from among all the tribes—the place where his name will be honored.
The NIV says God will choose the place "to put His Name there for His dwelling." His Name, "I AM" His essance, His Presence. I am not to worship my LORD in a place not of His choosing and that is not worthy of Him. We have spoken before of a lack of reverence in the holy places that appears to be a spreading trend. Here again God is saying "I will make my dwelling with you and you are to honor and revere the place I pick; you are to keep it holy." That goes for ourselves (our bodies the temple of God) and our worship places, our churches, our places of assembly. I am striving today to keep it holy and revered.

All of this weekend reading has been wonderful and I just want to drink it in! Again the word careful stuck out to me as it has all weekend and along with that through further study I was reminded of Eccel 7:8: The end of the matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride!
To be honest, Wendy I thought you were going to say that all the Dr. Pepper was a "sign" that you could have the drink and that God was saying it was ok to have it....ouch! I really don't even want to post this but will! Maybe the Lord is trying to show me, warn me to BE CAREFUL in how I interpret different situations! Ouch!

MY bible verse: “Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and be no longer stiff-necked.” — Deuteronomy 10:16 (The New American Bible) our (One year Chronological Bible)….Therefore, change your hearts and stop being stubborn.
Today, for me this question, “What does circumcise your heart mean?” After some search…. The uncircumcised heart is a hard shut up tight
— rebellious and simple. Any person in such a condition cannot and will not receive God’s help and grace.
Uncircumcised ears are unable to hear God –
“Whom shall I speak? Whom shall I warn, and be heard?
See, their ears are uncircumcised they cannot give heed;
See, the word of the Lord has become for them an object of scorn,
which they will not have.” — Jeremiah 6:10
Uncircumcised lips are unable to speak well –
“If the Israelites would not listen to me, how can it be that Pharaoh will listen to me, poor speaker that I am?” — spoken by Moses, who often complained to God that he was a poor speaker (Exodus 6:12).
Footnote from Deut. 10:16 reads: Circumcise your hearts: Dt.30:6; Jer. 4:4; Rom. 2:29. The “uncircumcised heart” (Lv. 26:41; Jer 9:25; Ez. 44:7,9) is closed and unreceptive to divine grace and guidance, just as “uncircumcised ears” (Jer 6:10) are closed to sound, and “uncircumcised lips” (Ex 6:12,30) do not open well in speech.

Thank you God for waking me up once again to study Your word...even after the time change! I don't even feel tired. You never cease to amaze me.
Something Old: Once again in all of this reviewing of God's instructions, we have to remember that Moses is talking to those Isrealites who were < 20 years old when these things happened...we too need to keep reminding and refreshing our minds and our children's minds about God's truths.
Something new: Deut 11:28: "But you will be cursed if you reject the commands of the Lord your God and turn away from Him and worship gods you have not known before".
This one strikes a chord with me because a very good friend of mine who once walked with Jesus now worships "his holiness the Dali Lama"....I cannot tell you how this breaks my heart. Since turning her back on Jesus, she has been struck with a terrible illness....and I am left to wonder if the two are connected. I pray for her heart's return to the Lord.
Nugget: "cling to Him" "hold tightly to Him"....I love these words...I picture a baby and how it clings to its mama. Lord, help me cling to You.

Brandee, I read your comments, too, and we don't even realize how blessed we are that we can freely PTL. End times are coming, and in our future we may not enjoy all the freedoms we have right now. We do need to pray for our country, our leaders, our church.
Wendy - I had missed that part you taught on today: 'there is strength when we walk in obedience.' It reminded me of one of the girls comments yesterday re: God's strong arm. Ahh, when we are abiding in Him, & walking in obedience, we do have His strength, His indescribable supernatural power inside us, getting us through! I've experienced that this weekend... by praising Him and thanking Him and leaning on Him throughout the day. There is a peace like I can't describe, when it is Him that I turn to first. I'm in a middle of a situation that normally I'd worry about. God, ahh...ladies, we just need to go to Him, as He is there to walk us through. No matter what it is. He gave me a verse yesterday, that just warmed my heart: "Whether you turn to the right or the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying "This is the way; walk in it." Isaiah 30:21.
Today, my take-away verse is:

Thank you Wendy for the message this morning!! It really spoke to my heart this morning and was what I needed to hear!! Isn't it amazing how the Lord works!
I have been struggling with an ex-sister in law and have been having a hard time showing her love since I feel her being so negative towards me. I have felt convicted by the Lord on numerous occasions about my behavior. This morning I prayed before I began my reading that the Lord would show me something that could help this situation. And the verse I pulled out was Duet. 10:16. Change my heart and stop being stuborn. Amen. Even those others may mistreat me it is up to me how I respond.
I pray that the Lord will help me to change my heart and help me to NOT be stuborn any longer.

Oh Wendy I thank you so much for your message today! Your resisting the Dr. Pepper last weekend, is the reminder this morning that the fast I am doing for my daughter must continue. I woke up this morning thinking maybe I should stop. There are several reasons & I thought oh God doesn't mind if I do this differently!! Wendy, what you said about strength in obedience is so true. I experienced the same thing with chocolate (gasp - I know!) It's amazing. God gives us power when we step out.

In today's reading the verses that popped out were those in Deut 10:3-5 re the ark. This may have been mentioned before but it's worth repeating: God instructed Moses to put the law in the ark. The lid of the ark is called the mercy seat. Jon Courson said that there is a wonderful balance there. "The Law is perfect, it points out my failings and shortcomings. But God does not meet us in the ark, where the Law is kept. He meets us at the mercy seat - where the blood is sprinkled." Again, with my perfectionistic tendencies this resonated with me. It is so freeing that He does not expect us to be perfect. In fact the sermon last night at church was along these lines, too in Romans 7. God knows we are going to fail. He told Peter that before He was crucified. Yet He restored Peter and He will restore us as well, if we come to Him.
The other that popped out at me was Deut 11:19-20 on teaching our children and writing them upon the door post of the house. Jon Courson said "The Word of God should be woven into the very fabric of your home. People should sense that your house is a sanctified spot. 'But there are so many problems in our house,' you might say. The Lord says, "If you love Me and do what I tell you to, I will drive out the forces causing these problems." When you love the Lord and keep his Word at the front door, close at hand and between your eyes, when you teach your kids what God will do, He promises to drive out the enemy that would otherwise drive you crazy." If we do our part, God can do His. Most of the time I think He is just waiting for us to obey. What are we waiting for?

My nugget was also from 10:16 change your hearts and stop being stubborn. This is something I struggle with and now more than ever with my husband. Please pray that the Lord would use his "super" to change my "natural" stubborn ways!

Wow, I never realized how rich Deuteronomy was! I am learning so much from the daily readings and from everyone's comments.
The verses that stuck out to me today were: Deuteronomy 11:26-28
26 “Look, today I am giving you the choice between a blessing and a curse! 27 You will be blessed if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today. 28 But you will be cursed if you reject the commands of the Lord your God and turn away from him and worship gods you have not known before.
In his commentary Chuck Smith said this is true for an individual, a corporate body (church) and a nation. He says that in a sense it would be wrong to ask God to bless America - just as wrong as asking God to kill the calories in a hot fudge sundae... but instead we should ask the Lord to bring our nation to its knees. So Brandee, I join you in praying 2 Chronicles 7:14-15 for our nation.

It's rainy here in WI, but my mood is lifted because of the awesome reading and everyone's comments.:)
**Michelle, I'm right there with you on giving up one of my favorite foods. Difficult as it is, I know with out a doubt it's what God wants me to do. And, after today's reading, I am comforted by the fact that I will have strength when I obey.
**Bethany, I had to laugh at your comment about the Dr. Pepper and you thinking it was a "sign from God that she should have it" because I too had that same thought. Wow, I guess I'd better take time to re-evaluate my point of view!! :)
What stuck out to me from today's reading was 11:22 "SHOW love to God..." That verse stopped me in my tracks and here's why: I often pray how I can show my love to others or I'll tell someone about a nice thing someone did for me. Even when talking about obeying God and loving Him I've never really thought about SHOWING God my love. Jesus is my ultimate example and I'm going to challenge myself to "be rare" as Lysa Terkeurst said.

While cleaning out my study at home last Monday, I came across a book I had read several years ago. It's one of those volumes that stays with you---resourceful, insightful, and timeless. One particular line about halfway through the book jumped off the page: "A time to be careful is when one reaches his goals. . . . It is then, with all his resources spent and his guard down, that an individual must watch out for dulled reactions and faulty judgment."
In other words, vulnerability accompanies achievement. After the long haul, energy drained, dreams realized, enthusiasm peaked, desire accomplished---watch out!
Maybe that is the best explanation for the rarity of repeating champions.
Back in the mid-1980s, the Chicago Bears cleaned everyone's plow. They won it all. The Windy City had waited so long, many were sure their team had what it took to do a repeat performance. How wrong they were! Before the taste of victory became stale, the erosion of self-destruction was underway.
What happens in sports can happen as readily in a ministry. During the difficult years, the watchword is survival, and the battle cry is sacrifice. Hard times bind people together. Goals are set. Prayers are offered. Every week is a new adventure in faith. By and by, the pieces fall into place, and the goals are finally reached. It is there---on the perilous pinnacle of accomplishment---that the adversary lurks with his corrupting influence.
The same can happen to an individual. My thoughts return to the man whose heart followed hard after God. Jesse's youngest son preferred the rugged solitude of the wilderness . . . but Jehovah's plan was that he occupy the throne of Israel. Years of hardship and humiliation under Saul's incessant assault preceded his promotion. Even when he became the king, the thirty-year-old monarch conducted himself with unselfish, untarnished integrity. The nation flourished because David's magnificent obsession was the glory of God.
Then came that infamous day in early spring---the morning David chose to sleep in rather than accompany his men to battle. Who knows why? Could it be that his impressive record of successes made him soft? Only a brief spell of passionate indulgence, yet it changed everything. His peace vanished. His character blasted irretrievably. His family life destroyed.
Alas, he was not the last to fall prey to the peril of past victories. The paths of history are strewn with the litter of heroes who forgot to walk carefully along the narrow ledges of the heights. How have the mighty fallen!
Resting on your laurels is a synonym for flirting with disaster. Write that reminder down where you can see it frequently.

Everyone's comments have been such a blessing today and Grace and Peace I am going to write down in my journal what you wrote about the mercy seat. That is just awesome!
Before watching the vlog this morning I had already written Deut 10:12 in my journal with my name in it. I also wrote Colossians 1:10-11, "And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every good way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience." Our Pastor taught on this passage yesterday and I it seemed to fit so well with what we are reading in Deut.
I missed the part Wendy about strength in obedience, but LOVE this and it is so true! I am like some of the others and think that God is giving me permission when in fact He may just be testing me to see if I will stay faithful.

Wendy, I'm so excited to hear your Dr. Pepper story! I've fasted for Lent by giving up a single item or group of sweets for as long as I can remember, but I've never fasted in any other way. It's not something I've ever been taught about or studied, but something that Anita Renfroe said on FB caught my attention in Jan, and before I knew it, I felt drawn, as if I also should do a Daniel fast - me, the girl who had to spend weeks researching it to really figure out what it was! I dreaded it but felt like I had to do it, even if I ended up eating plain lettuce and apples for 46 days. Even the day before I was mentally wishing for a way out. That first Wednesday morning, though, I felt totally okay with eating my new grown-only foods and have not been tempted to break this fast at all, even when cooking yummy foods for the rest of my family (which is not to say that I don't sometimes get frustrated when I'm really hungry - but I'm still not tempted). I'm now looking forward to adding back some healthy proteins and dairy foods back into my diet after Easter, but I think I'm going to stick with the no-sugar thing for a bit longer. I NEVER thought I'd be happy doing this or would EVER want to extend it, but I'm learning a lot, and, as you said, He gives us strength when we obey. :-)
Grace and Peace, thanks for your prayers regarding this fast! I'm still sleepy, especially in light of the time change, but not nearly as much as at the beginning, and I can definitely tell that God is working in all of this. :-)
Brandee, I agree with you about the prayers for our nation. I just finished reading 'The Last Jihad' series by Joel Rosenberg, and while I understand that they are a work of fiction and his opinion, I think he makes lots of good points throughout the books. As a whole, we have fallen away and turned our backs, and there are/will be serious consequences. I looked at the festival you linked, and I'm actually going to be only a few hours away that weekend but can't go. Wish I could! Maybe we could talk to our pastors or prayer leaders at our church and hold a prayer tea or brunch or something along those same lines??

I had originally put my To Do at the top of my journal page for today, which was Deut 10:12, but after the vlog and you all's comments, I re-titled today's journal "Strength in Obedience". That was such an awesome nugget, Wendy, thank you! I too have given up something I idolized for Lent, and have been wavering lately, and admit to having slipped up. Its awesome that God tests us and gives us the opportunity to take the baited hook or turn and run to Him. Great conviction there, lady!
My Old/New was Deut 11:18-21, reiterating the Wholehearted Commitment from chapter 6. I ask myself and my friends when I/they are struggling with an issue or feeling lost, "where is God in that ?" This just drives that home. I am/we are His image bearer(s), He should shine through us so that EVERYTHING about us reflects the glory back to Him who makes us holy. Nobody should have any doubts about where I stand and who I stand - and LIVE - for!

Deut 10;12 tells us-fear God, love to please Him, love Him, serve Him with all my heart and soul.
Ladies, I am sooo guilty of disobeying my Lord as the Israelites. I was shown this today.I tend to be judgmental.
My special diet is for healing due to Crohn's disease. There's a long list of "do not eat" food and drink. I tried something simple as drinking milk,and eating lettuce, and tomato on a chicken wrap. It went right through me.I paid for partaking of my forbidden fruit.
After confessing my sins above, God showed me Mercy. Now I will offer unto Him a drink offering by not drinking milk, one of my favorite lifetime drinks. I will offer an olive oil offering of no fried foods; a grain offering of no high fiber(cereal) foods.
My God is a giant killer. These giants (foods that make me sick)standing against me are going down.(Only because of Him)
It is wonderful how the Lord can apply His Word to us personally in our situation. It becomes alive to us. It's all for His glory and my good. The main thing is to keep our Lord Jesus first.
What does the Lord require of you dear daughter of God? Anyone up for a challenge?
I learned that God has chosen me to be His special treasure-Deut. 7:6. You too!
Deut. 11:22 says I can show love to the Lord by walking in His ways and holding tightly to Him. Wow! I never thought about it that way.

My sister Linda, you have NO idea how much I needed to read your post today! I am in a very similar situation and I have been making one excuse after another. Mine is not Crohn's but yeast related. My list of nos is L-O-N-G and I have not really followed very well. I keep using one excuse after another and one is my weight. Ladies, I have gotten down so low in my weight and I have been using that as an excuse to eat sweets and drink soda and eat whatever I want. But I can tell, my head stays stopped up again even though I don't have sinus infections, I can feel that my head is stopped up and my ears ring constantly. I am struggling guys because when I follow the diet strictly I can not keep my weight up and I am down so low it is not healthy. What to do? I just don't know. I need your prayers too for guidance and strength.

I am so excited! The low in Wisconsin this week is going to be 50's and the high might get up to 60's. Oh my goodness, heat wave!!! I think it is going to stay above freezing. What a blessing! I have finally gotten myself moving and have been walking outside. It feels great.
Wendy, you have done an amazing thing. You have helped us/me reconnect with God(I know he has been trying to get me on this path for a while), but also connect with women who have similar life experiences.
Linda-I have Crohn's and I can say that I can empathize with what you are talking about girl.People have no idea what they take for granted, just simply being able to eat whatever they want and will not spend the day in the bathroom. Thank you for sharing your story. I have goosbumps right now. You and I will have to chat!

Brandee, I think it would be awesome if there could be some kind of mass praying-for-our-nation event. The National Day of Prayer is May 6th - does that help? If nothing else, maybe we could do what we did for our spouses and take a weekend day and write in our prayers for our country.
Along the prayer line, have any of you heard of the helping hand of prayer? It was new to me a year ago Epiphany, but a Catholic friend told me that she's taught her son to pray this way. I first saw this as a way not just to pray for missionaries, but for our leaders in general.

Since your thumb is nearest to you, begin by praying for those missionaries closest to you. They are the easiest ones to remember. C.S. Lewis said that praying for those we love is a "sweet duty."
Index or pointing finder
Let your "pointing finger" remind you to pray for missionaries who teach, instruct, and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and evangelists. They need support and wisdom for pointing others in the right direction.
Middle finger
Our tallest finger reminds us of our church leaders. We can never pray too much for them. Pray for those who supervise and direct missionary outreach.
Ring finger
As any piano teacher will testify, the ring finger is our weakest finger. This weaker finger reminds us to pray for those missionaries who are discouraged, in trouble, or in pain. [ read more ]

Our little finger is the smallest of the digits on our hands, which is where we should place our individual wants and desires in relation to world evangelism needs. The Bible says, "The least shall be the greatest among you." Let your pinkie remind you to pray for the people of the world who have the greatest need to find Jesus. Pray that they will open their eyes and see Him.

What a day with the Lord this has been...literally!!!! I read the first thing after waking up...no pencil, just read and absorbed. My to do verse came to me instantly as I read it. After delivering "Meals on Wheels" and lunch, I started with my pencil and underlining....then the note taking in my journal. Then after dinner--From 8-now p.m., I've watched Wendy and taken notes from her vlog and your responses. The Lord has surely been in my house today!!!!! Jennifer, hang in there, sweet child of God; He'll give you a day like this too when you least expect it, and when He knows that you're ready to absorb His presence and His guidance for a particular area of your life, just as He has done for me today. This feeling is not an every day occurence for me, but I can change that, only with His Guidance and Help. It is true as Wendy said :"There is strength in obedience."
You GIG, including Wendy, have been used by God in a mighty way for my benefit today. THANK YOU, JESUS!!!

I want to fear--live in such a way as to make it evident that I care what God thinks of me.
Worship Him:
1.By prayer
2.Through testimony--ways to praise Him for who He is
3.Through singing and music... that which glorifies Him
4.By preaching...preaching that draws men's minds from their own problems and frustations to God's Greatness and Goodness. This kind of worship will promote worship.
Wendy, I pray that what you said DID settle right within me as about 15 verses hit me, or would it be "Convicted me" :
1. to change(as it seems that Kimberly and I have the same struggle),
2. to not rest on my laurels (Debbie,NC shared this :),
3. to push for the outer limits (as Dixie stated),
4. to pray for others and for our nation (as Diane,Texas and Brandee stressed), and
5.to offer unto Him (as Linda from Ark. so beautifully gave her example)
So, yes, Linda, I'm going to be praying that I am up for the challenge in what my Lord requires from his daughter, Jeanne.
I have never been more encouraged and reassured about my walk and His plans for my future of serving Him as I have today with this study. He is awesome and mighty; we serve a wonderful Savior...together as Lori said: with our Bibles, the computer, and each other.
