Something Old:
I have a family Redeemer. His name is Jesus. And He lives today.
I love the picture the Holy Spirit painted of Jesus as my Family Redeemer.
- Providing to my physical needs (2:9, water - 2:15, food)
- Protecting me (2:9, 2:16)
- Paying the price for me (4:9)
The qualifications a the kinsman redeemer:
- must be a kinsman
- must be free
- able to pay the price
- willing to pay the price

Just trying to catch up with my readings and vlogs.
Yes, Wendy I do intent to keep up with my Joshua challenge, thank you for bringing it up.
I have an important prayer request as to my husband, pls pray for the ringing in his ears, he has been very patient and did not want to upset me but he has been enduring this pain and ringing for the past days . Pls pray that the Lord direct his paths, that He heal his ringing , that his boss change his office space which is very noisy and also pls pray that my husband continue to concentrate for his promotional exam on April 24th. I am so thankful for this blog spot where we encourage and pray for each other. Thank you all for keeping me on my toes on my reading, I missed that past 2 days and I feel like it has been ages.. so many updates and so much great reading and comments.

Today reading to me I’m always intrigued to what names mean:
Bible verse: Ruth 1:20, But she said to them , “Do not call me Naomi.* Call me Mara, for the Almighty has made it very bitter for me.
Footnote*: Naomi: means “amiable” or “pleasant,” suggesting God’s favor toward her. The Almighty has brought evil upon me: the ancients regarded adversity as a punishment from God for personal sin, as if good and evil were always repaid in a temporal and material manner.
Just wondering why Naomi didn’t want to be call Naomi any longer. Because to me she seemed to represent her name. Wondering what she did? ….that she lost her husband and 2 sons. All in God’s plan.

Orpha decided to stay in Moab….Ruth 1:8
Ruth’s attitude whole different…..Orpha kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her”-Ruth 1:14.
She was determined to go with her….Ruth 1:18.
Ruth risk a lot to go with her Mother-in-law, Naomi…
-she would have been cut loose from her own relatives in Moab.
-she would have no contact with her native land or culture.
-she might even have been considered a “traitor” to her own people.
Ruth reminded me of the: “Sayings on Discipleship. In Luke 14:25-33.

Hi Rhonda….WELCOME….love your name…I’m 46 and a Mother of two special gifts (sons)….a 16 yr old and a 14 year old. Married 26 years to my high school sweetie. I enjoy being home, scrap booking, and gardening. One of my sisters once gave me a gift…a candle holder with my name on it and the meaning behind my name….…Enjoys the comforts of home). The more you dig into the book of Ruth, the more it parallels the gospel.
Boaz symbolizes Jesus; Naomi the nation of Isreal; Orpah symbolizes the unbelievers who turn away; and Ruth symbolizes the church (believers).
The whole story coincides with the story of Isreal. What a cool God to put this message in this book.
It's worth a good commentary read because the correlations are amazing.
I especially like Ruth laying at Boaz (Jesus') feet.

Oh, to finally see a little more estrogen in the bible! Such a tender story of devotion, respect and love-- with a happy ending! Like reading a novel, I was thinking about how Ruth and Boaz would make such a great couple, and hoping the other relative didn't want to purchase the property from Naomi! Silly me!!!!
So, everything in the OT is new to me, and as I read the words, it was like looking upon the surface of a pool, with all its sparkling beauty. But after hearing your words, Wendy, WOW! I am able to peer into the depths of the water to understand what it really means, and begin to appreciate what this story foretells. Thank you so much for being here to provide for me a deeper vision!
2:11-12 “But I also know about everything you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband. I have heard how you left your father and mother and your own land to live here among complete strangers. May the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge, reward you fully for what you have done.”
My silent works are known and remembered by God; I must deny myself, with the promise of reward in Christ.

My son Elliot went down for a solid nap this am and he slept for 5 hours through the night for the first time in weeks, so I am feeling good today :) I not only got the vlog in, I went back to do the readings. I am glad I did - it was a real up lifter to read about Ruth today.
Old: Ruth's faithfulness/kindness towards Naomi
New: family redeemer (thank you Wendy for fleshing that out further for me today).
Do: Trust in God's provision and that He will work out a very difficult family situation going on for me right now.

A interesting note is Boaz is a descendant of Rahab, a former prostitute from Jericho. (Joshua 2:1-21) There are four biblical genealogies that list Boaz as the son of Salmon, Ruth 4:21, 1Chronicles 2:11, Luke 3:32, *Matthew 1:5 Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab (the harlot in Joshua). God uses all situations & different types of people to bring His message to all.

My brother's soon to be MIL has been fighting cancer for years. They recently moved up their wedding to June because she is not doing well.
Last night she was admitted to hospital and they are trying to sort out what is wrong.
Please also lift up my brother and his fiancee as they are dealing with many challenges related to her care and they are exhausted.

Nancy, praying for Lori and her baby. Father, you formed that baby long before s/he was to be born. You determined that baby's days be it a few months or a hundred years. We leave this in Your hands, Father. Please bring comfort and peace to Lori and her family.
Morgen, I had forgotten that Boaz was the grandson of Rahab. That is probably why he had compassion for Ruth. He was influenced by his grandmother, the same way he influenced his great-great grandson, Solomon because he "named one of the pillars of the temple (1Kings 7:21) after him. Boaz means standing in strength." (Courson, p. 808)
Re the threshing floor scene in Chapter 3, Chuck Missler said Ruth was not propositioning Boaz in a physical sense. She was asking him to do his part as a kinsman redeemer. The phrase "spread your garment over me" means protection because the border of the garment denotes authority. Note that David cut off Saul's hem, and the woman with the issue of blood touched Jesus' hem.
Chuck Missler summarized Ruth as follows:
Boaz = The Lord of the Harvest/Kinsman-Redeemer
Naomi = Israel
Ruth = Gentile Bride
He further expounded.
"*In order to bring "Ruth" to "Naomi", "Naomi" had to be exiled from her land.
*What the Law could not do, Grace did. (Law being the nearer kinsman)
*Ruth does not replace Naomi.
*Ruth learns of Boaz' ways through Naomi
*Naomi meets Boaz through Ruth
*No matter how much Boaz loved Ruth, he had to wait for HER to move. (Just like Jesus is waiting for us to move.)
*Boaz, not Ruth, confronts the Nearer Kinsman (Jesus did it for us)
*Book of Ruth always read at the Feast of Pentecost/Shavout (birth of the church)
*You can't really understand Revelation 5 without understanding the Book of Ruth.
*You and I are also beneficiaries of a love story, that was written in blood, on a wooden cross, erected in Judea 2,000 years ago."

I love, love the story of Ruth! It has always been one of my favorites and especially more so after understanding the underlying meanings with Christ being our Kinsman Redeemer.
Praying for all the mentioned requests as well as our prayer list for our loved ones. May God hear our prayers today as we come before Him, humbling ourselves on their behalf.

My head was so swirling with thoughts this morning after reading Ruth, as well as John 14-17, that I couldn't sort it all out and post before school. Thank you Wendy and friends for your always helpful insights for this OT newcomer.
Half day today, a few errands to run, and now I'm home to start putting the lower level back in order after our recent flooding. But I was eager to check in here first, and I'm glad I did.
This morning I prayed for all requests by name (I finally am keeping a list), and while I do fairly mindless work this afternoon, I shall be praying that Nancy's friend Lori is wrapped in God's protection and comfort at this difficult time. Also, PTL that Jodie is rested today so she can better help her "kinsman" through their difficulties. Praying for strength and guidance for you, dear Jodie.

Today's reading was a relief...as many of you have mentioned! I too love Ruth! If any of you receive the online magazine, Exemplify, there is a beautiful story in there on Ruth. I read it 2 nights ago and just cried right along with her!

It's good to be back! I had a busy 2 weeks with work and celebrating my oldest turning 25 in Atlanta. I am still trying to catch up on the VBlogs and reading.
Ruth is one of my favorite love stories in the bible. Christ's message of love is threaded all through the text. Our single ladies can take note; God blessed Ruth with a wealthy husband because of her faithfulness to Naomi and her God. Whatever God did once, he can do it again.
My Nuggets:
Ruth 2:3 God has a divine plan for us, be careful not to miss it because it may not be packaged in a nice, pretty comfortable situation.
Ruth 2:11 You never know who is watching your faithfulness, stay committed, our reward is on it's way!
Ruth 2:16 God has an "On Purpose" blessing for each of us. Just wait and see. :-)
Yes, Wendy I am still on the Joshua challenge, which coincides with my church’s Daniel Fast which ends on April 18th.

Am praying for all prayer requests ... would like to add one. These allergies are apparently getting worse and they've added more meds - I've never taken so much! Now I'm not supposed to go outside, and for this farm girl, that's not easy - especially since it will soon be too hot to do so. :-(
I kept thinking about what it must have been like for Ruth to leave her family and homeland to go away with her MIL. My husband has already made arrangements for us so that if anything ever happens to him, I can go home. I can't imagine purposely taking off to someplace new like that. What devotion!

Ruth's story was such a comfort after yesterday's reading.
NUGGET: Wait patiently for the Lord, just as Ruth waited patiently.
I know this is short, but I am trying to be better about posting, but today has been extra busy at work.
I did have a new patient that said that he prayed over the list of names on his insurance carrier's list and asked God to give him a person who was compassionate and painless and I was the answer to his prayers. That was the kindest comment that I have ever received in 5 years of practicing. May I always remember that My hands and my trade are blessings and gifts from God.

Hey sisters in Christ, This book is one of my favorites. Not only is it a special love story but part of my wedding vows came from this book. After I said the my vows, I continued with Ruth 1:16-17. So today I went back in time for a little while remembering that special love story that continues today 27 years later - really 29 if you count the years we dated! What a wonderful comparison to our Redeemer who loves us and cares for us.

This was my first time reading this story and I do love it. I really enjoyed the parallel to the Gospel as well as the note about Ruth's discipleship (and Luke reference).
One verse that really stuck with me was 2:12 "...the Lord, under whose wings you have come to take refuge..."
Debbie, thank you for giving us single girls hope - or shining that light on the hope to be drawn from this, I really liked that!

Praying for among others some new requests. Paola's husband. Nancy's friend, Lori, Jodie's brother's future MIL, Susan's better understanding Of yesterday's study (I read some explanations that may help). Michelle's sister, Denise. and Marquel to continue to be compassionate and painless. The world has real need of compassionate people! To Amy - thank you for the recommendation on The Last Jihad. It is hard to put down but I do manage so I can keep up with this reading. About not going outside - how about the prettiest landscape picture or photo you can find and place it in a prominent place where you can just "sink" into it. This knee mail includes all who are not mentioned specifically.
I have two knee replacements so I sometimes "cheat" with a pillow but it works!!!! And tomorrow I "dance" and sing with the special populations group.
