Consumed
"You defiled your sanctuaries with your many sins and your dishonest trade. so I brought fire out from within you and it consumed you."
Ezekiel 28:18

My Take Aways

Something Old:
How do we prevent being absorbed, used up, and consumed by the sin and junk within?

Something New:
Our Thoughts
2 Corinthians 10:5
"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."

Our Mind
Romans 12:2a
"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."

Revive; to reestablish; to restore to a former state; make new or as if new again

Our Soul
Psalm 32:4-5
"When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of the summer."

Something to Do:
Keep my thoughts, mind, and soul obedient, pure, and clean. Thank you Lord for your precious word to us today.

Psalm 32:5
Psalm 38:18
Proverbs 28:13
1 John 1:9

Hi all,

I haven't listened to the vlog yet, but I wanted to post this link about Tyre:

http://bibleatlas.org/search--tyre

It has a map location and a listing of references. I think it is good! I will be back later with more comments.

Thanks Wendy for your words. We do have a battle with our minds, to stop the consuming fire from within from consuming us.

I also was taken by the funeral song in Eze. 28: 11-19. I see that it is one of those songs that speaks to a specific person, place and time, as well as having truths for me, and is a prophesy of the ultimate fall of Satan.

Verses 12b-14: They speak of the Prince of Tyre, and they speak of each of us created by God. We were crafted by Him, anointed by Him, beautiful, adorned with great riches. We had access to the mountain of God.

But these verses, and this whole song, also and more directly speak of Satan. He was a "mighty angelic guardian" (verses 14 and 16). He was perfect and blameless until evil was found in him. He was in Eden, he had access to the holy mountain of God and he walked "among the stones of fire" (some say these are the stars). He was expelled from the mountain of God. He was banished in disgrace. And later, when he is thrown into the river of fire (Daniel 7:9-11, Rev. 20:10), he will be reduced to ashes in the sight of all who are watching. He will come to a terrible end and will exist no more (Eze. 28:18b-19).

An excerpt from Coffman Commentaries reads - "The very sin which resulted in the casting of Satan out of heaven and down to the earth was that of "pride"; and therefore the pride of the Tyrian kings afforded a marvelous opportunity for the prophet to call up from the Word of God the example of what happened to Satan, as a sufficient warning to all the proud kings who every lived."

And I would say, not only for kings, but for any of us who struggle with pride and are lulled by our "riches, wealth, love of splendor, beauty, or skill in commerce" such that we feel like the Egyptians the other day, that we "created the Nile ourselves."

Have a good Wednesday everyone!

Karen, I can't wait to look up your link! Thanks!

Jacque, I'm sorry Michael's whereabouts are causing you worry. I pray that he continues to follow the path he has started to take and remembers where those wrong choices lead him!

With that in mind, I'm stressing enough about kindergarten that I can't imagine big people worldly issues for my kids at this point! The schools here are not the quiet, calm, rural ones that I'm used to at home, and even at the elementary level there are many worldly issues that my daughter will now see - addiction, homelessness, peer pressure, racial issues, to say nothing of all the usual little girl problems. I'm not worried about her academically and know that she is totally ready for school; I'm just afraid of the other issues that will eventually come up! I don't know how you mommies of big people do it!

Lori, I appreciate your prayers so much! Thanks! Monday was such a good day but yesterday much harder.

I really do have things about the reading to share, but I have to go get ready for the big day ... almost time to get kids up! I'll try to be back later ....

Have a great day, everyone!

(Wendy, I'm praying to be consumed by God's peace and trust in Him and not by my own stressing. Thanks!)

Wendy, great stuff today, and timely for me. Thank you.

Oh, Amy, I want to give you a great, big hug today. And I wish, wish, wish I could say it gets easier. I am stressing over my big (25 years old) girl today, who is struggling to deal with lots of issues - newly married, far away from family and friends, starting a new job next week, financial pressures from home ownership, etc. I have promised God I will give her over to Him and get out of His way, but it is hard! Anyway, let's both take a deep breath and focus on the positives (4:8 it!)of these new stages and all the growing our girls will be doing! And then, let's get on our knees and ask for His mighty help and protection for our girls!

I'm going to go read Karen's link (thank you, Karen) because in my distracted state of mind today, I need all the help I can get to pull a nugget today.

Peace and Gratitude,
Michelle in Soaking Wet New England

Hi sweet Wendy. I want to tell you and everyone else that I was not standing up on the boogie board if that's what you're thinking. I lied down on it but I still rolled over a few times and was pushed under water quite a bit. I had never tried a boogie before. At least I can hear when the wave is coming so I can close my eyes but a little salt did get in them and in my mouth a few times. Wendy, I'll email you a picture when I get it.

Wendy,
I want to know the Word like you do! I’m happy God has placed me under your circle of influence! Each morning, you do it again – the Spirit just opens up a verse to you, and shows us all how applicable His Word is to our life today! I love the thought of each year, getting closer to Him through His Word. Today, your teaching spoke to me regarding: thoughts. Oh, they can play havoc with our minds. This last year, I’ve been clinging to that verse you mentioned “captivate our thoughts.” I now am able to see the thought as it is coming into my mind. I see the enemy doing it. Some days I’m better than others. Somedays in my mind I enter the little pity party and play there a bit. But, then, I do get back to that verse, cause I know that I’m sinning. I know Satan has got a grip on me, and I don’t want his grip, and I want God’s gentle hug. [Worry vs peace]
It is something we have to watch for all of the time. The enemy never seems to take a nap – he is lurking & waiting to pounce.

Sweet Amy, how I remember so much, what you are dealing with. I am happy that you are in God’s Word. I did not have that, way back then. Each morning, you have a talk with God. Lay it all out to Him. Every worry. Every anxiety. He will carry it for you. He is Sovereign. He loves little Andi more than you do. (can you imagine that?) She is going to be the light in that worldly school. The enemy will try to get you to waste your precious minutes with worry, when you could be confident that God is in control. Plus, you want to be enjoying these last couple of years with Luke. No, time for worry. You keep praying that God will give you insight, discernment, and wisdom to parent her through these school years. As problems come up, scriptures can be found to pray over her. She is in God’s hands. He is there to love you and guide you. Also, something huge that I’ve learned, only this past year or so, is when we worry, we usually vent this worry to our husbands. I did it MANY years re: our sons. Mercy, I put a heavy load on Dave daily, with my worries. Did any of them happen? No. It was a habit I was in. It was part of my conversation! I worried about everything. This did absolutely nothing to bring Dave any closer to the Lord! God has shown me, that my conversation should not be about worry, because then I’m not trusting my Father. I’m worrying about stuff that has not even happened. Our ‘talk’ with our husbands shows us what is on the ‘inside’ of us, what Wendy spoke of today. What is consuming us? What is absorbing our attention?

Thank you dear Lord for this new day. Thank you that precious little Andi is not alone when she goes to school. Lord, Jesus is in her heart guiding her little footsteps all day long. Place Godly little people all around her. Give her a special Christian friend to play with and converse with while on the playground. Lord, thank you that you know her needs at school more than Amy does. Help Amy, to let go of her worries. Give her insight to know when something is wrong. Keep the conversation open between Amy and Andi. Lord, use this little intelligent girl to do your mighty work at this worldly school. She’s not too young to have an influence. May her good behavior and language influence everyone around her. May her teacher show favor to her, and love on her, allowing her to be a sponge this year and enjoy her every minute of her Kdg. year. May her strong values stay with her, even when she is not at home. My you close her ears to anything that is not healthy to hear. May she only see the good around her. Thank you

that your eyes never leave her. Thank you that Amy is in your Word every day. You will not leave Amy either Lord. May she know that everything is going to be ok because You alone are Sovereign. We love you so much Jesus, with all of our hearts –in your precious name we pray, Amen.
Hugs, sweet Amy, I’ve been there, and I so wish I could take every worry away. God has you in His Word for a reason! Smile…

Karen, thank you for the link, too!

Oh, Michelle, I know-the worries, never end, they just get bigger, don’t they? I can’t tell you how much better it is tho, even the 2nd time around in His Word, this year. Truly, I believe we get more confident in Him, each year! It just gets back to trust. He is God. He does have a plan in each one of our kids’ lives. We like to still be in control, tho. I can so relate to what you said about Chuck. My oldest is like him, - ahh, God gave us these special sons’ for a reason! They are not the Type A’s like us, sweetie! The more I turn my boy’s over to the Lord, to let Him be the one to control things, the more peace He gives me. I believe after ½ of a century, I finally began to get it: I have to lean on God, to raise them, His way. Daily, as I turn over my worries to Him (rather than Dave), he speaks, he gives me insight on the important stuff, and then, I’ve just gotta let go with the things that I can’t do anything about anyway. Love and pray, for there’ no other way. Ya know what? When the grand-kids come, it’s just going to start all over again! Ha-ha, guess we are in this for the long haul, smile!!! I know personally, that God’s Word, has made ALL the difference in my life. So, that is my number one prayer now…that my boy’s will wake up with God’s Word on their mind. That they will be drawn to have a quiet time of their own with their Father. That He will guide them according to His perfect Will, as they read their Bibles. Are they doing this now? No. But, they will be doing it one day. I just know it! I believe God will have a quiet time with each one of my boys’ one day. I pray, that they love God, with all of their hearts, and that their personal relationship with Jesus will be their favorite and top priority in their day! Then, when I’m not around and can not pray for them, it will still be ok…for they will be walking with God, and He will be their anchor! Hugs! Lori

Happy Wednesday, Everyone!

Jennifer, I feel like I’m on vacation with you, sweetie! Your posts have brought me smiles! Running on the sand, -I am so glad you experienced this! And, on the boogie board, too! I know what a blast that is! The waves bringing you in, and just the feeling of flying through the air! ENJOY today!!!

My Old:
What a thought to hold on to:
“For I will gather them from the distant lands where I have scattered them. I will reveal to the nations of the world my holiness among my people …And when I punish the neighboring nations that treated them with contempt they will know that I am the LORD their God” (Ezek. 28: 25 & 26).

My New:
Realizing more this second time around how much, “I, the Sovereign LORD, has spoken” is repeated for clarity. It’s no surprise that the verdict for their sin was going to happen. Ezekiel said they were going to be destroyed. Many witnesses heard him foretell this message. Yes, Tyre’s glory would end.

What did she do wrong?
“Boasted” (27:3)
“in your great pride” (28:2)
“Regard yourself as wiser” (3)
“by your love of splendor” (28:17)
(26:2) yesterday – gloated over Jerulalem’s fall

My To Do: Keep in mind: “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18). It’s all about emptying myself, and getting under the cross – by serving others’ – not myself. “The humble man sees himself as he is” (Henry Fairlie). Lord, help me see myself for who I really am: sinful & self-centered in nature. Fill me up with your Holy Spirit, it’s my only hope! All of You, none of me.

Girlfriends’ – enjoy today in His Word. Let it be your guide today, let it sink down into the deepest parts of your bone marrow. Let it be everywhere in you, to the point that it comes out in your actions. Help all of us Lord, to not read your Word only, but to live it. To be the light in this dark world, that we live in. Let the evidence of Your Holy Spirit come out for others’ to see. May those around us be drawn to You today. Amen.
Hugs, Lori

Lori, thanks for your words and caring, sweet twin! I am really looking forward to Year Two, and am amazed when I look back at what has happened in me over the last 8 months! You know, after I got on my knees and prayed and shed a few tears, His peace came over me! Just like He promises. And I looked up all the passages Wendy recommended, and they were very helpful, too.

GIGs, I want to pass on a suggestion from Pastor Stanley that if you "really want to see things happen" for your loved ones, pray Colossians 1:9-14 over them. It's quite a powerful, packed passage that makes a great prayer. I "recycle" it, as Wendy said today, for each family member, and tack some special intentions on to the end.

Peace and Gratitude,
Michelle in New England

Morning (or evening) to ya'll.

Just compelled to post today.
1st. Wendy isn't it wonderful when we can read this doom and gloom that you can find a nugget to pull out and understand that the Word is alive and well and is for us EVERYDAY. Thank you for allowing God to speak to us. Great point.

We had a record heat wave on Monday, 107. Walking on the sidewalk was so very hot. I thought of that as I read, "so I brought fire out from within you and it will consume you" But this morning it 50 degrees cooler. How blessed

Ezekiel 28:24 "no longer will Israel
's scornful neighbors prick and tear at her like briers and thorns. For then they will know that I am the sovereign Lord" That is the key verse to all of this doom and gloom. I am so glad that God never called me to be a king or queen, prophet. My heart goes out to them all.

My sisters, as we walk this life with our LORD, and we start in the dark, we can see His brilliant light in the future. Like walking in a tunnel. Knowing that the darkness is still around us. But as we learn, by being in His Word and letting it be like a blanket covering us, the light gets brighter and brighter. Then we are able to see our frail, sinful ways. Take heart....God knows that we are becoming more aware of our sins, and that it huts us knowing that we are hurting Him. BUT, remember we understand it better and better as we draw nearer to Him, and His glorious light. It isn't that we sin more, it is only that we are made aware. Don't think that we let Satan into our lives, but that we understand that when man fell, in the garden, we became sinners. Rememdy....prayer and confessing consistently and fully. and consuming ourselves in His Word. Those things we can never over do. Tell the devil that you do not belong to him, turn to the LORD, our maker, and walk away. If you need to do that physically - turn around- while telling the devil you no longer are his - that is ok to. You are not responsible for your sinful nature, but are responsible to God, for confessing with prayer and asking God to forgive and help you not to sin anymore. Do we ever get there. I only wish. As we get older we can get boastful because the sins of the flesh - well we are not tempted by those. But that makes us proud and boastful, aren't we good. No, we are just older now. And here comes a new way to sin. The apostle Paul said, the things that I want to do, I don't, and the things I don't want to do, well those are the things I am doing. And we know that he rebuke the devil and know that he belong to our Lord and Savior. But there will come a day, in the next life, when we won't sin, what a glorious day that will be. LORD come quickly. I long to be with You.

Hi Everybody…..

Wendy….Thank You and Blessings!! You mentioned getting back in the video about the funeral song…Not for sure what you were going to mention. I was wondering also about this…Went to the New American Bible and they called it a lament. I looked up the 2 words and this is what I found from Dic.com I didn’t put all of what funeral was just the idiom which I thought fit.

Chronological Bible:
Ez 28:12 Son of man, sing this funeral song for the king of Tyre…..

New American Bible:
Ez 28:12 Son of man, utter a lament over the king of Tyre….

Lament meaning:
1. to feel or express sorrow or regret for: to lament his absence.
2. to mourn for or over.
–verb (used without object)
3. to feel, show, or express grief, sorrow, or regret.
4. to mourn deeply.
–noun
5. an expression of grief or sorrow.
6. a formal expression of sorrow or mourning, esp. in verse or song; an elegy or dirge.

Funeral : —Idiom
4. be someone's funeral, Informal . to have unpleasant consequences for someone: If you don't finish the work on time, it will be your funeral!

Some more food for thought on (Exekiel 28:14):
Chronological Bible:
Ezekiel 28:14 I ordained and anointed you as the mighty angelic guardian. You had access to the holy mountain of God and walked among the stones of fire.

The New American Bible:
Ezekiel 28:14 With the Cherub I place you; you were on the holy mountain of God* walking among the fiery stones.
Footnote 28:14: The holy mountain of God: the residence of God was sometimes designated as a mountain; cf Is 14:13. The fiery stones: associated with the divine presence; cf Ez 1:13: Ps 18:13

Is 14:13You said in your heart: “I will scale the heavens; Above the stars of God I will set up my throne; I will take my seat on the Mount of Assembly, in the recesses of the North.*

Ez 1:13In among the living creatures something like burning coals of fire could be seen; they seemed like torches, moving to and fro among the living creatures. The fire gleamed, and from it came forth flashes of lightning.

Ps 18:13 Before him scudded his clouds, hail and lightning too.

Thanks Everyone…Praying for all….the gratitude I would love to share with each of you.

Dearest Jacque,

A (((((BIG HUG))))) coming your way. The chains have been broken. Oh Jacque, I could hear it and even feel it by your un-chained heart and from your words. You really do have a gift of encouraging…. helping others. You are such an inspiration….(60 yrs. young-old) for you right now at such a time as this. Jacque just sit and ponder where you all have been and what HE has all brought you through let it seep into your deepest soul….and promise me you will not rush it. Four yr. exile for me one time coming toward the end and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel (that was much needed for this gal)…..coming back from my walk one morning on the top of our home sat an all white-dove. Sit and ponder his word and meaning…..Peace I leave with you!!

You wanting to nudge Michael in church….I enjoyed the 2nd reading from church also last Sunday, been pondering it a lot this week (Thought you might enjoy this too)…just slipping in the article to you on our Sun. bulletin (put the 3 readings together so well): (Is 66:18-21,Heb 12:5-7, 11-13, Lk 13:22-30)

The Article:
The disciples ask Jesus if many will be saved. He responds that many will not come into the kingdom. He later describes how people will come from north and south, from east and west, from everywhere, to eat at the great banquet of God. Jesus doesn’t say how many will make it. He describes the path they will take.

Christ calls us to see the connection of discipline and love. Are we able to walk this path?

We know already what it is to strive for a goal. An athlete may love her sport but be exhausted from practice. Training eyes and hands to react consistently and to place the ball in a small target will mean sweat and fatigue, even blisters and failures along the way. But love of the game will keep her on the path.

Musicians know that hours of rehearsal can grow tedious. Fingers ache after repeating the same patterns. They cramp and quit. But love of music draws the musician to return again and again to practice.

The beauty of a dancer’s seemingly effortless steps--the graceful image that brings music and light and movement into harmony--come after years of discipline.

We know that what is worth achieving takes effort, practice, and discipline. What our heart wants most deeply will eventually require what is deepest in us. It may be painful to bring our deepest love out into the air and light.

Could we be happy, could we be fulfilled, settling for less? The kingdom of God is calling what is deepest in us.

My son, do not disdain the discipline of the Lord or lose heart when reproved by him; for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines.

Hi everyone--
Last night I posted that Michael spent a Holy Hour with his sponsor. This is a designated hour in church every week spent in prayer and adoration by an individual, to acknowledge and keep watch with the ever-present Lord, every hour of the day and night. There can be special intentions that are requested by the parish or individuals, or the person can use the time for personal meditation. I was just so surprised that Michael would go with him to this, and I was apprehensive. I am thrilled that he has found a friend who is strong in his faith, but is this happening too fast?

So last night he brought home a DVD by John Paul Jackson, called The Perfect Storm. He is a pastor who has prophesies about our country and world. Are any of you familiar with him? His message does not seem to be contradictory to God's word, although some seem to think he raises fear, and even some doom and gloom (similar to what we are reading this month!) Of course fear would be in the hearts of those who do not have faith in God's loving plan for His kingdom. If anyone has some input about how I can direct and support Michael about these things, I would be so grateful.

I am not familiar with very many Christian speakers, but I am learning so much from you! Recently I told my mother how my concept of God's people has expanded so much with this study! We teach each other so we can embrace our different paths! I am learning to love and appreciate the breadth and beautiful variety of gifts and knowledge that His daughters (you) bring! Each of you has important and individual gifts to share, whether through words or prayers. Someday we will shine like a rainbow in heaven!

In our reading today I was just trying to see it, not from a busy street corner, but from a point above, viewing this city as a whole. All I kept thinking was MATERIALISM. Boasting that its beauty is perfect, with all the finest of goods to be had, this city was so proud of what it owned and the riches it provided, it" satisfied the desires of many nations." Desires, beauty, pride. Next to 27:27, ("Everything is lost") I wrote in my margin, "Was it worth it?"

I have come a long way from watching decorating shows, but I remember how they used to make me want more and more of whatever those people had! There was a period in life when it was all about beauty and pride-- in my home, my children, my yard, myself. But of course, I didn't create the Nile! I still struggle with perfectionism, and this is so wrong, because only God is perfect.

I am slowly learning the joy of simplicity, because it is allowing me to feel the richness I have in the important things. I am so grateful to be free of needing to meet someone else's standards and to be able to fashion my own standards based on values.

My concept of beauty has changed to include things like smile wrinkles, sticky hugs, a flower petal, sunlight. Now I love the simple philosophy of "wabi-sabi." God looks for beauty in a person's heart, and I need to always reflect on this whenever I am tempted to feel deprived of beautiful "things."

The other point I saw from the bird's eye view was the state of our country. Do you think our country puts its value on the shallow surface riches that sparkle, when there is disease and decay below? And other countries are bedazzled by us! What kind of example are we giving to the world?

Rhonda, I loved the article you shared! Especially, "It may be painful to bring our deepest love into the air and light." WOW! Thank you! Everyone have a good day!

Blessings, and praying for all,
Jacque

I wish I could help you on whom John Paul Jackson is...I never heard of him.

I agree with you on the materialism. I've come along way in this department too. Lots to say here....but do need to go. Dillon has a soccer game tonight...Brady football practice...Need to get in the shower.

Thanks for your kind and giving heart Jacque...Saying a good bye with another ((Hug)) for you. Michael is blessed to have you for a Mother.

Amy...I am thinking so much of you today too. Wrapping my arms around you with a hug too. Doesn't seem like that long ago when I was there. He is a senior this yr. already. Have a few weeks with them yet. They don't start until Sept. 7.

Wow, just when I believe they can’t get any more pretty, you prove me wrong! What a gift from God you have, Rhonda!

Jacque and Tina, While reading in Psalms, both of you came to mind:

“I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD. Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD” (Psalm 27: 13,114).

“I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; from where shall my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber” (Psalm 121: 1-3).

Continually, (every day) - to be the kind of mom, God desires us to be - we have to ask Him to empower us. There is no way we can do this motherhood thing alone. I used to think I was in-control, but oh, how fooled I was! Only by His indwelling Holy Spirit, are we able.

Expect miracles, He can do all things!
Take delight in the hard places – for you are not alone – The Lord is present with you. It is in this time, God will woo you and draw you both so close to Him; you both will be favored, as you come to know Him more than you ever imagined!

Hugs, Lori

PS “God looks for beauty in a person's heart” -wow, much to ponder, Jacque! And, isn’t it God we are all trying to please? Help us want more of you, Lord, not the world and it’s outward luster! He sanctifies us closer to Him, as we spend time with Him. The less we spend with Him, the closer we are to the world. It’s no wonder my eyes were in love with outward beauty all those years! May we be reminded once again, “how brief [our] time on earth will be. Remind [us] that [our] days are numbered-how fleeting [our] life is….each of us is but a breath. For [we are] traveler[s] passing through, as [our] ancestors were before [us]” (Psalms39:4,5,11,12).

Sweet friends, how sweet to pop back in and be filled with His goodness this afternoon! You all inspire me with the walk you are on, and the words you share.

Enjoy! Hugs, Lori

PS I could not help but think back this past Sunday, when the word ‘haughty’ was discussed, - it was all I could do not to nudge my 16 year old. Now, I see the plank in my own eyes! In his it’s just a speck! Help me Lord. Draw me close. Change me to see like You do. Keep showing me my own sin. It’s my heart that needs cleansing today.

Have a blessed evening, all.

Teeny, you sound so great! Stay on top of the pain, and it will get better every day. I am so inspired by you and your dedication to this group, even through surgery, girl!

Rhonda-- breathtaking! Hibiscus? My absolute favorite color, how did you know? Thank you for such a special treasure, friend! I will enjoy the beautiful bloom all the time by making it my wallpaper! I envision your garden splendor, and then look out my kitchen window at everything turning brown from this summer's neglect. But instead, we have something much more important in our home this summer, well-fed, watered and thriving! :)

Lori, what is it about you, that is just like a sweet daily shot in the arm of God's message of love and joy? Incredible, woman.

We are puppy cuddling tonight too, Michelle! I wish all you friends lived next door!
