God gave His only Son as a repayment for my detestable sins. I will not have face them.
Something New:Thank you for the cross Lord. Thank you for the price your paid. The wrath of God toward me was satisfied on Calvary.
Though I will not have the wrath of God (The song is In Christ Alone.) upon me for my detestable sins, the Holy Spirit allows me to feel the pain of my unfaithful heart, gives me the opportunity to repent, and to know that He is the LORD.
Something to Do: Worship today and celebrate that He is worthy, thanking Him for the cross.

I have been convicted; not just about how I treat family, though that is surely where it starts, but also how I treat my co-workers. I SAP'd last night because there are some situations at work where I have been fighting my pride and my competitiveness. Last night my prayer was to model Christ. To hold my tongue, to withhold my judgment, to lend aid and assistance wherever it is asked, to assign a "name" representing a good quality to my loved ones and focus on that name. God gives us new names. I should ask Him to reveal the "new name" to me, and then I should treat that person exactly as the name requires. Lastly, I asked God to give me the strength to go where He sends me and to act in my situation precisely as He asks me to act; even though I don't know why. I am reminded again that I am the glove and He is the hand.
Today; Ezekiel 9:2, 6 men and a 7th among them who was dressed in linen and had a writing case at his side. The word for linen used here is "Baad" which is defined in Fauset's Bible Dictionary in the following way:
Baad is exclusively applied to the holy linen garments, ephod, etc., of priests, and angels.
Fausset's commentary on this passage says this:
His clothing marked his office as distinct from that of the six officers of vengeance; "linen" characterized the high priest (Le 16:4); emblematic of purity. Therefore the intercessory High Priest in heaven must be meant (Zec 1:12). The six with Him are His subordinates; therefore He is said to be "among them," literally, "in the midst of them," as their recognized Lord (Heb 1:6). He appears as a "man," implying His incarnation; as "one" (compare 1Ti 2:5). Salvation is peculiarly assigned to Him, and so He bears the "inkhorn" in order to "mark" His elect (Eze 9:4; compare Ex 12:7; Re 7:3; 9:4; 13:16, 17; 20:4), and to write their names in His book of life (Re 13:8). So who is this? Yes, it is the pre-incarnate Christ. The believers "who sigh because of the detestable sins" are marked. Our names are written in the book of life.
As I have read the stories of the faithful in the OT, I am both in awe and a bit afraid.
Definition of awe (Merriam-Webster):
1 : an emotion variously combining dread, veneration, and wonder that is inspired by authority or by the sacred or sublime
They were obedient surely (Moses, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Ezekiel, the apostles,..) and they suffered greatly to proclaim the Word of God.
Ezekiel 7:19-20 - " 19 “They will throw their money in the streets,
tossing it out like worthless trash.
Their silver and gold won’t save them
on that day of the Lord’s anger.
It will neither satisfy nor feed them,
for their greed can only trip them up.
20 They were proud of their beautiful jewelry
and used it to make detestable idols and vile images.
Therefore, I will make all their wealth
disgusting to them."
It sounds like our world today doesn't it. What does it mean to "sigh because of the detestable sins?" Can I do it? Yes, with the grace, mercy, power and Spirit of God. Also, with the support and prayers of this community of Christ.
Lord, thank you for the cross; that we no more fear death and have no payment for our sin. Thank you for becoming incarnate, to walk among us; healing the sick, binding up the broken hearted, restoring sight, opening our minds, showing us your LOVE and your salvation. Thank you for being our High Priest of intercession before the throne. Thank you for putting your Spirit in us. Remind us daily that you are with us. You will never leave us, or forsake us. It is through you that all things are possible, and by ourselves, nothing is. Remind us that your strength is made perfect in our weakness; you are the hand and we are merely gloves. May our prayers rise up like incense before you; a lifting up of our prayer as an offering to you. May they be a pleasing aroma to you and may we be refreshed and sustained by you. - Amen

The punishment the Isrealites were to receive was difficult to read.
The false gods they were worshipping were: Baal/Ashteroth/Mammon/Moloch....
these were gods of: intellect/sensuality/money/pleasure
Gee...don't these seem like the same gods of today? How far we haven't come...how much we haven't learned. Forgive us Lord. Thank You for nailing my sins to the cross.
Another interesting thing I read in a commentary: Tammuz was the Babylonian god of resurrection. The myth back then was that Nimrod (Genesis 11) the founder of Babylon married Semaramis. After Nimrod died she miraculously conceived and named the child Tammuz. As a young man Tammuz went hunting and was killed. After 40 days of being buried he was resurrected. Weeping for him became a yearly Babylonian custom that the Isrealites living there got caught up in. Satan is the great counterfeiter...knowing Jesus would be born miraculously to a virgin and resurrected from the dead. More ploys of the great deceiver to confuse people.
We need to stay in the Word and be aware of how satan wants to deceive us into believing our sin isn't really sin or isn't that bad...or is just "who I am"...cleanse us oh Father.

Wendy and Karen - WOW!! You have each ministered some powerful words to us to start our Tuesday. I felt the Spirit moving in each of you. Karen, awe is a perfect word for how I have been feeling doing these readings.
In another Bible I have, it says that Ezekiel's name means "strengthened by God," which is seen as "a signpost and a confirmation and comfort to the children of Israel." Borrowing a phrase from the old westerns,this writer gives it a new twist, saying that "the promise of Ezekiel is much more hopeful than 'the cavalry is coming.' The message of Ezekiel is 'The Calvary is coming.'" Amen!!
Thank you to Jacque and Jessica, whose helpful posts from last night I just read this morning. Wonderful insights from all, friends, and things I should have been able to see myself, but sometimes the Mama Bear in me really causes skewed thinking. I'm beginning to see that my dear daughter is probably going to go through an "exile" of sorts as she adjusts to all the huge changes required of her, and Mama Bear is going to have to bear the pain right along with her. I need to step up the prayers, and get out of God's way, to put it succinctly! I KNOW His plans for her are good.

Karen, thanks so much for sharing your research! I was confused by the man with the writing kit. Now that you've explained it, though, it reminds me of the blood brushed on the doorposts back in Egypt. The faithful are being marked and spared. I'm so glad that my sins are paid in full - and so sorry that Jesus went through such horrible things on my behalf.
What jumped out at me today was the verse saying that Israel was going to be shamed and homeless before the nations. I don't know about the shamed part, but Israel was certainly homeless - without a political state - for an awfully long time, and it seems as if someone was always 'out to get' the Jewish people during that time. The playing out of this portion of scripture??
Michelle, I wanted to reply to you all day yesterday but never got a chance. My husband and I both have very different family interactions, and it's hard when we're with the opposite family. His parents didn't try to understand the customs of where I'm from at first, and my parents looked only at my husband's actions and not the intent behind them. He tends to disappear when they come to visit to give me uninterrupted time wtih them since we live far apart and rarely see each other. They get confused because they think I'm always alone. It has been difficult to help them all understand each other, but we're making progress. Keep looking for and acknowledging the good - it's there!

Morgen, I, too, thought about our society as I read today. Many I know definitely worship the god of intellect. "Smart" people don't believe the Bible, they say. It makes it difficult to be a believer in my world. Thank you, Amy. As I read your post, it was revealed to me that I have also been resenting the fact that I literally got NO time alone with my daughter during our vacation. That was partly because her parents, her brother and her husband were all clamoring for time with her, so I guess I didn't feel it was fair to get her to myself. Also, she implied at one point that she was avoiding being alone with me because she was afraid she would use it as a complaint session. Wow! We had a lot going on during this vacation and I guess I'm just now processing it all. Thanks again, Amy. Good luck with school starting. God bless little Andi!

Each time God is letting His rath over take the people, we can find a remnant. Lord, I pray for these sisters, that we are your remnant. Thank you for GIVING your son to cover our sins, in the worst kind of death the world has ever known. You chose that time to ask your son to die for me, because I sin. We can understand as mothers, how much you loved your son, and yet help us to understand how great is your love for us. It truely is above and beyond our comprehension. As we listen to this song, singing out to You and Your Son our hearts were touched. And all we can give you is our praise in song, reading your word, and wanting to be obedient. Thank you for this group and how we bless and encourage one another. Lord I ask your Spirit to translate our utterances.
Michelle, what a sweet program for your wedding. I suggest that you get that out, make a copy (use the most worn one you have to represent the years of your marriage) and frame it. Give to your man that God gave you as a renewal of your vows. WE all do get caught up in everyday life and take one another for granted. And it is the little things that mean the most.
This study has made me love the Word more than I did before. It truely is the first thing I want to do every morning, (after the first cup of coffee that is) and then to hear Wendy's comments, which are fresh and cause me to draw closer. To cap that off with reading one another postings........well that is about as good as this life here on earth can get. Then we can realize that Heaven will be so far above that - my earthly body and mind cannot grasp what that will be like. But I am sure wanting to know.

As the people disobeyed the Word of God, violence filled the land. Again and again, the people ignored the warnings presented to them by Ezekiel. They crossed the line completely – bringing idolatry in the Temple. The people accepted the world around them as their standard; the more they blended in the more they “believed that the LORD didn’t see them; they felt that he had deserted their land!” (8:12) The KJV states: “The LORD seeth us not; the LORD hath forsaken the earth.”
My To Do:
Plainly, today we see so clearly, that when we fail to honor God and His Word, we open ourselves up to idolatry. It’s easy to allow our distractions to take over our time. Pete Wilson in PLAN B, says: ‘Idolatry is simply to take something other than God and make it our ultimate focus. We make it the most important thing in our lives and pursue it at all costs” (151). Common idols today – money, technology, acceptance, and even family.
God is jealous for our time. I don’t want to dodge him while seeking the distractions that the enemy places before me. Satan will elude us, and cheat us out of true satisfaction that only can be obtained by walking with the Lord, and living our day seeking His will for us. Staying in His sweet Word, will keep us on His straight and narrow highway.
Today, dear Lord, bring your Word’s into our life. Touch us with a scripture and unveil it into our hearts. Help us to not just read your Word, but, rather to apply it to our life. Thank you, dear Lord, as we read with anticipation, you give us a greater understanding. As we focus on you, your precious Word produces a greater love for You. Oh, Lord, each day, may you drive each one of us to Your Word. Help us to carve out a period of time to obediently spend with You. Give us an insatiable appetite for Your Word, so that idols will not slip in and replace our daily time with You. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. Hugs, Lori

Great lessons in these readings today. Karen, I was also intrigued by the man clothed in linen, and your expansion really brought it into focus. It also reminded me of the night of the passover. I asked myself, if this were happening now, would I, Jacque, be one blessed with a mark on my forehead, or would I be one who was passed over?
I also thought of the occasions throughout the church seasons, when a mark (a cross) on the forehead is traced (blessings, baptisms, confirmations, Ash Wednesday, etc.). I can appreciate this now even more as a mark of salvation. I will eagerly accept this mark!
Obedience is so strong in these teachings. Israel was required to earn God's favor by obedience, and if they didn't fulfill their obligations they were destined to be destroyed. Thank you Lord for Your sacrifice, which allows me another chance when I falter and fail to obey Your teachings and urgings of the Spirit.
The "tour" of the idolatry secrets in the the Temple was kind of exciting, sort of like a biblical tabloid! But how many places in my home to I have false idols? TV on? Unchecked computer time? Pile of unread magazines? Too many clothes? Overflowing refrigerator? Stockpiling of "stuff?" Things that I cling to? I may be able to hide things from other people, but God knows and I know... Dear Lord, help me to identify and wipe out my idols, so my time can be better spent in serving You through others.

Thank you for the acrostic yesterday re JBGC. I need to have that plastered where I can see it all the time.
What caught my attention in today's reading is how God's heart seemed to be breaking when Ezekiel was shown the idolatry going on IN the temple. Those would be the priests doing that right? What they were doing in secret, God sees. What we do in secret, God sees as well.
Jon Courson's commentary re the high places on Ezekiel 6: The high places were little gardens built by the Canaanites to worship their gods. When Joshua was told to conquer the land, he did a fairly good job but let the high places remain. Why? Perhaps because they were pleasant to look at. But as the years progressed the people of Israel were drawn to these little gardens and there, learned of the worship rituals of the Canaanites.
The warning to us is that sometimes there are sins about which we say, "That's not a big issue in my life. I don't have to deal with that particular thing. It's under control. Besides, it's kinda pretty. I'll deal with everything else and I'll let that high place be.
God, however says, that groves have to go not because He doesn't want us to have fun but because He knows they'll eventually destroy us
...Satan's biggest lie - the one that he's told since the Garden of Eden is to whisper to our ears that God is holding back something really good from Us (Gen 3:5). But that's not truth. God says to us that the groves must go because our bodies will be left on the floor of pagan altars. In other words, we'll be destroyed.
Thank you, Father, that You love us so much to let us wallow and be destroyed by our hidden sins. Thank you that You are faithful and just to forgive if we but only acknowledge and repent. Thank you, Father for the Cross and for Jesus. Thank you that Jesus is enough.

Michelle, I haven't gone on my vacation yet. I haven't commented in the past few days because I don't know what to say. I've had a few thoughts about our reading but I haven't been able to put my thoughts into words. I have been feeling spiritually inadequate. I have not been to church in the past four Sundays. Once because I was going to visit a friend's church and at the last minute changed my mind because I hadn't talked to her, twice because I couldn't get a ride, and this past Sunday I was at my sister's house and they don't go to church. I did have a wonderful weekend visiting my sister, bil, and two nieces. I'll miss the next three Sundays at church because of my vacation and my cousin's wedding.
I will be leaving on Sunday Aug. 22 for Baldhead Island, N.C. Bald Head Island is a two-mile journey across the Cape Fear River from Southport, N.C. I'll be back Sunday Aug. 29. Then the following weekend is my cousin's wedding.

I have only commented once before, but I have come to love this community of believers as I have read thru the Bible with you.
Today I come with a prayer request. I found out today that my son's 5th grade teacher will be teaching evolution in science class this year. My son knows that God is the creator of the earth and everything in it, but I ask for your prayers as he may have to defend his beliefs for the first time in his life. Pray that God gives him the words to say. Also pray that I will have the words to answer any questions he may have. Does anyone have any good resources I could reference on this subject? We live in a small town with one public school, so this is the only option for us. Pray that we will handle this situation with grace and that my son will emerge from 5th grade with his faith strengthened and not shaken.

My son asked if yours have read the sequel to The Ark called The Dreamer, the Schemer & the Robe about Joseph. He's also reading a book sent to him by my TA fr Koinonia Institute called "Eternity's Account / Stones of Fire" by Julie Bryson and Catherine Sharpe. They are KI students too (when my son read their bio he said 'Mom! They're bronze medallion holders, too' Then he looked at me as if to ask: How come YOU haven't written a book? LOL!) It weaves in the lessons fr KI so they include patterns in the bible and all that wondeful stuff. It's part of a trilogy. Stones of Fire is the first book. I'm hoping he finishes soon because I want to read, too. ;)

I heard about your read thru the Bible lessons at She Speaks and have been visiting as often as I can. I loved what you said today about the stitching. That is exactly how I describe the story of my family on my blog, thank you for being sensitive to His Spirit and using those words as you spoke. He used them to remind me as I listened of what He has already done in my family.

I loved the movie “The Passion of the Christ.” Many people said it was too graphic, but hey, that is what happened! It WAS a horrible death. What I really loved about it was the portrayal of the mother/child relationship. I really felt for Mary, and what she must have went through. The movie really makes you appreciate the sacrifice Jesus made.

Hello friends!!! It's 11:02PM central time as I am posting this. So many thoughts running through my head tonight so if you will forgive me I am going to ramble.
First of all I am SO thankful for each and every one of you and your posts. I gain so much from what you find in the scriptures and the research that you do. Karen, thank you for being a word nerd today. Your definitions really cleared up some things for me. This is my first time reading Ezekial and let me tell you, when I read chapter one I thought "oh boy". Things with wings, hands, wheels and eyes. It gave me nightmares. However, I knew that I could make it through and learn because of each of you.
Several of you talked about "being marked" and it also made me think of the blood on the door post. When I was a child that story terrified me. I would lay in bed and could imagine the fear of the first born. I have an active imagination, what can I say. I remember thinking "oh I will do whatever it takes to have that blood on my door post" and I could see the Angel of Death in my mind as he went from house to house. I had forgotten about those feelings and vivid scenes in my mind until today.
Yesterday I wrote about how the recurring theme of obey had stood out to me. Another theme is "be careful who you hang out with/listen to". This came to mind again today as I read about false prophets and priests. We have to be in tune with the Lord because Satan is a deceiver and will use people and smooth words to trick us into believing that we are doing the Lord's work. Only when we are one with God will be able to hear His true whisper and know what is right/real.
I move on September 1st and began the project of packing tonight. I didn't sleep last night at all because I was SO excited.
