Something to Old:

I need to see and stand in awe of the miraculous signs for what they are- a display of His majestic power instead of wondering why I am not seeing more miraculous signs.

What got me today is that Jesus knew the Jewish leaders wanted to kill Him, and He continued teaching. But while He was doing that, there were people listening to Him in the crowd who believed in Him and supported Him but did nothing. There were vocal complainers and there were people who wondered about Him, but none of the people who believed in Him would speak up because they were afraid of those Jewish leaders. It makes me sad - they were afraid then, and we're afraid now. Maybe not of being killed or tortured like they were then, maybe not here in the US right now, but many believe it's coming. What will we do? Right now it's usually only the fear of another's reaction and/or judgement that makes us hold our tongues. Jesus faced so much for us - will a funny look from another, if it even comes, really hurt us so much? I'm not ashamed of Jesus but I am of myself - there are times when I could speak up but I don't. I don't want to do that anymore.
I also wondered what Jesus was writing in the dirt when he told the men that the sinless ones among them could cast the first stone. ??? Wouldn't it be neat to know?
Off to get sleepy kids ready for school on a rainy day! No walking for me today!

I, too, keyed in on "His time had not yet come." Timing is so key, isn't it? When to act, when to speak, when to stay still. When I get it right, it feels right, and when I get it wrong, I can feel that, too! Dear Lord, help me today to understand "Your time".

Wendy, I too enjoyed reading the “awe” moments last evening. Thank you girls for sharing your stories, they truly touched this mama’s heart!
Amy, I camped out on some of your thoughts, too: “But no one had the courage to speak favorably about him in public; for they were afraid” (John 7: 13). I wrote in my margin, ‘I don’t want this to be me!’ In family gatherings, etc. there are many times I’m surrounded by nonbelievers. I’m one to remain silent – because many of them are so adamant with their strong feelings, - and quite the opposite of mine! I’m praying to be able to speak ‘at the right’ time, and with the words that Jesus would use. It quite easy to talk about Jesus around Christians, but quite the opposite when they are not saved!
My burden is growing for those that are unsaved, -as you know I’ve talked about wanting a sincere burden from my heart -truly to want those that are not saved, to know Jesus. What were the words that we read coming out of the mouth of Jesus today? “Your duty is to go and preach about the Kingdom of God” (Matthew 8:60).
Daily, our eyes should not be focused on our own needs, and mine are!
I pray that my burden will grow sincerely from my heart so that my purpose in life will be God’s purpose for my day.

John 7:37-39
While Pentecost, for Christians, marks the closing of the Easter season, the close of feast referred to in the opening line of the Gospel is Jewish Feast of Tabernacles (Tents, Booths). In the Jewish calendar, this was an eight-day pilgrimage feast during which Jews went up to Jerusalem to celebrate the harvest. In Exodus, it is understood as the feast of ingathering at the end of the year, a feast of celebrating that the harvest has come home (Exodus 23:16; Deuteronomy 16:13-15). For seven days of the feast, water was brought as an offering from the pool of Siloam, the same pool where the blind man was told to go and wash (John 9:7) On the eighth day, there was a “holy convocation” (Leviticus 23:33-6) marked by rituals performed around the altar b priests with water from the pool of Siloam. This is most likely the setting for Jesus’ words in today’s Gospel.
The source of the scripture passage (“Rivers of living water…”) that Jesus quotes cannot be identified with any certainty. Yet connections with Psalms 105:40-41 and 78:15-16, which speak of the rock in the desert being split by the Lord and then flowing with water, and texts from Ezekiel 47:1-12 and Zechariah 14:8, which refer to streams of water flowing out from the Temple, are reasonable. Regardless of the source of Jesus’ quotation and whether the rivers of living water flow from him or the believer (the text is ambiguous), his use of this scripture coupled with John’s explanation of it, point to a reinterpretation of the Feast of Tabernacles in relation to Jesus as the true source of living water (John 4:10-15) through his promise to send the Spirit.
This shows that the Spirit cannot be understood apart from Jesus. The Spirit be understood apart from Jesus. The Spirit is the Spirit of Christ. Moreover, one could expand on the meaning of the passage in relation to Pentecost and say that the Spirit that was given to the disciples is the same Spirit that has flowed within the church and in the hearts of all who believe for centuries. This gift of the Spirit, alive and well in the Church throughout the world is cause to celebrate on the Vigil of Pentecost.
Some interesting Footnote for me:
John 7-8: These chapters contain events about the feast of Tabernacles (Sukkoth, Ingathering: Ex 23:16; Tents, Booths: Dt 16:13-16), with its symbols of booths (originally built to shelter harvesters), rain (water from Siloam poured on the temple alter), and lights (illumination of the four torches in the Court of the Women). They continue the theme of the replacement of feasts (Passover, Jn 2:13; 6:4; Hanukkah, Jn 10:22; Pentecost, Jn 5:1), here accomplished by Jesus as the Living Water. These chapters comprise seven miscellaneous controversies and dialogues. There is a literary inclusion with Jesus in hiding in Jn 7:4,10 and 8:59. There are frequent references to attempts on his life: Jn 7:1.13.19.25.30.32.44; 8:37.40.59.
John 7:8: I am not going up: an early attested reading “not yet” seems a correction, since Jesus in the story does go up to the feast. “Go up,” in a play on words, refers not only to going up to Jerusalem but also to exaltation at the cross, resurrection, and ascension; cf Jn 3:14; 6:62; 20:17.

Tell Scott I had the same experience he did in prayer. Mine happened about a month ago, I was praying about a concern I have had for several years now. Suddenly, the Lord spoke to me and said "trust me, I will take care of you and give you what you need." While he was speaking a warm feeling of peace and contentment swept over me, my anxiety completely disappeared. An awesome moment with the Lord.

I'm behind on my vlogs and readings for the last couple of days but I just want to give a praise report.
Remember when I asked for prayer on Sept. 7 for Doug? My son's friend's Dad who was found unconscious during a bike ride? I just got an update yesterday and praise GOD he is good as new! They had to put a stent in his heart and he's undergoing some physical therapy but he is home. Thank you all for your prayers for him and his family. :)
