Oh, did you catch the richness of 12:42. My soul leapt when I read it.
These are random thoughts about our reservation for rescue:
"This night had been reserved by the LORD to bring his people from the land of Egypt, so this night now belongs to Him."
Does that excite anyone but me? Dictionary.com defines reserved as: to be kept or set apart for some particular use or purpose. The LORD knew exactly when He was going to get His people. The date had been reserved or set on the kingdom calendar. He did not go any sooner or any later than He had planned. The 430th day of bondage was reserved for the rescue. Nothing or no one could thwart His plan. The Israelites may have felt abandoned. They may have thought, "Our LORD has forgotten us." But God...He was right on time. As my pastor would say, "This is a great time for an Amen."
These are random thoughts about our reservation for rescue:
- The LORD, our covenant God has a plan for our escape from our bondage.(Ex.1-
- The LORD's plan will be a display of His power, will be for His glory, and for our good.
- The LORD himself will subdue our oppressor.(12:29)
- The LORD expects us to testify to others about our rescue. (12:24-27)
- The LORD's way out will leave us richer (not necessarily monetarily) and stronger than before.(12:36)
- The LORD's plan is perfect and will be perfectly carried out.(12:42)
- The LORD's plan is orderly and will not cause confusion. (12:51)
I can hardly contain myself. This is good news. No, this is great news! If you have experienced any kind of freedom you can testify to the truth of these principles. I have and I do. My freedom from the yokes of slavery have left me stronger and richer. I see that His plan for my rescue was perfectly carried out and was in order as it related to other circumstances in my life. His power was displayed. It was all for my good and I give Him all the glory.
And the Lord says, "Testify!" Anyone?

WOW Wendy!!! What a verse!!! I totally missed it! When I checked back to read it, the version of the chronological Bible that I am using misses the impact of that sentence completely! I love the wording in your translation. (What version are you using? I thought mine was the same, but obviously it isn't!)
I love the word "reserved" and the meaning of being 'set apart for some particular use or purpose'. It reminds me that He desires me to be 'holy' and 'set apart' for Him for some particular use or purpose and that He has plans and 'nights' reserved to bring me to His promised land.
AMEN! AMEN!

When I think about "reserved" I think about the reservations my high school sista's and I have for this weekend at a hotel. We have "reserved" this weekend since last October. Oh the anticipation, excitement and fun, giddy emails that have gone back and forth since then.
We need to anticipate and get excited and giddy about what the Lord has reserved for us. I can only imagine!

I love the response to the word of God from his people in 12:27. When Moses had finished speaking, all the people bowed down to the ground and worshiped. Emphasis on "all", I truly believe God longs for corporate worship. When WE come together and bow and worship him, WE can do major damage to the kingdom of darkness.

Thanks for the update! No confusion, just delight in hearing God's Word expressed differently. For the record, my verse reads: "On this night the LORD kept his promise to bring his people out of the land of Egypt. So this night belongs to him, and it must be commemorated every year by all the Israelites, from generation to generation." Still like the word 'reserved' better. :o)

I love the word reserved...Love this post. I certainly don't want to miss my reservation with the Lord!!! I did underline the verse because I love that it says God keeps his promises concerning us. I loved reading this verse--realizing God was speaking to me. When He sees me, He no longer sees my sin, but because of Jesus's blood--I am righteous and death passes over me! Oh, GLORY!!

I loved your insight and comment. It really made me look at this in a different light. Before reading this it felt more like reading rules and regulations on what to do and what not to...you know do this but don't do this. Now I am seeing it in a whole new light.
