Would LOVE to attend SheSpeaks. Don't know if I'm called to speak or write, but I know for sure I'm called to teach and am feeling inadequate when I stand in front of a group. Praying God uses this giveaway to glorify Himself.

Good morning, GIG's

Wendy, I agree that we need to guard against negative emotions taking over our mental energy. Being in the Word with you all this year has helped me so much in that respect. It is a lot easier these days to have the correct kind of thoughts in my head.

The reading today includes much behavior that we are warned against in Proverb 6:16-19
"There are six things the Lord hates: seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush in to evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers."

My to do: Seek the Lord's wisdom and do not rush to speak or act. Lord, help me to stop being the kind of woman who jumps to conclusions and figures she knows what motivates other people. Only You know that.

Susan (Runner Mom)--I loved and identified with your comment yesterday "I am a work in progress and I am learning to be okay with that."

Jill - wonderful news that Beau came through the surgery okay. PTL!

Thank you, Lord, for blessing Paola with a job opportunity. Continue to bless her as she seeks your wisdom during salary negotiations. Help her to be confident in her abilities and her potential, because You know the plans You have for her. May she receive your peace and your wisdom on her journey to be a wife and mother of noble character. (Proverb 31 :)

Peace and Gratitude,
Michelle in New England

To know for sure that speaking is the direction God is calling me in would be amazing! I feel tugs here and there but by attending She Speaks, I know that God would open or close the door! Thank you for the opportunity!

Wendy, I was eagerly wondering what you could pull from today’s reading – as I read through the pages (twice), and did not get much. Leave it to you to bring in something that I needed to hear. The time and energy, when our mind is not focused on God! –And, boy, how our thoughts can over-take our joy! Yesterday, I woke up excited about God’s Word, enjoyed time with you all on the blog, and then. Aahh. I got ready to take my walk, and simply put, I was not in the mood to pray! As I began my walk, I thought I’m just going to listen to the environment. Well, sisters…the enemy began his mighty work. I had a ½ of day where I needed to be serving extended family members. I allowed myself to focus on the “why me’s”… “how come I’m left to deal with all these family members!”… Ya, know the pity-party! I knew what was happening, and I tried my best to call out to my Father to save my thoughts. Mid-day, I had a few min. where I had to wait and I pulled out my phone and checked in to our sweet blog comments! I re-read Karen’s and could feel God whispering to me! She writes, “Thus, in the service of God, we should keep up the willingness and resolution of the spirit, notwithstanding the weakness and weariness of the flesh—faint, yet pursuing (Jdg. 8:4), the hand weary, yet not quitting the sword.” I had to stop and give praises, to God for allowing Karen to write these very words that were meant for my ears! So, my take away learning experience was even when we are not in the mood to pray, sisters…we PRAY! We open our mouth and do it. God will bless our efforts, and Satan will have to flee at that moment. The enemy will do anything and everything to keep us from this communication with our Father.

Like you said, wise Wendy…Our focus should be: The Word. God. Husband. Family. Serving! That leaves NO time for wondering thoughts, because, these indeed lead straight to the pity party, sitting next to the enemy himself!

Today, dear loved-ones, we need to be fully aware, when the enemy is trying to sneak in. We need to capitalize on every opportunity to share His love with those we come in contact with…continually watching and praying so that we will not give in to temptation in a moment of weakness (Matthew 26:42).

Thank you for being so patient with me dear Lord. When I slip and lose my focus, you find a way to bring me back to You. I’m in awe with your love for me.

GIG, thank you for blessing me each morning! I so enjoy your nuggets and revelations! Stopping to pray for each of you today! Hugs, Lori

Good morning,

I have noticed that men were trying to please the king(David) by murdering, but it didn't work.

Revenge belongs to God. Our thoughts lead to actions, pleasing or displeasing to God. David didn't have to kill his enemy, Saul. God took care of him.

In 6:21 Abner told David,"You will rule over everything your heart desires." Isn't that the truth?

Ps. 37:4 tells us to "Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart." God will place His desires for us in our heart when we delight in Him. Isn't that wonderful?

If desires lead to thoughts, and thoughts lead to actions, we need to watch our thoughts. I know that I certainly do.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!
Linda from Ark.

Morning, GIGS! I stuggled with the reading as well--read it before falling asleep last night. I am really getting overwhelmed with the fighting and the killing in the Old Testament...are y'all? Too much violence and bloodshed for me.(2 Sam. 4:5-12) But, I am sticking with the reading...I promise!

Wendy, the part about David demanding Abner to bring back Michal back bothered me too. Thank you for digging in there to remind us of our priorities of the Word of God, God, family and service. As Lori said, that leaves no time for our thoughts to wander and build and create pity parties.

You GIGS have a beautiful day! Hugs!

Thank you for your insight Wendy, on keeping our desires noble and pure.

This little segment caught me...
2 Sam 3:35-7 "All the people wept again for Abner. David had refused to eat anything on the day of the funeral, and now everyone begged him to eat. But David had made a vow, saying, 'May God strike me and even kill me if I eat anything before sundown.' This pleased the people very much. In fact, everything the king did pleased them! So everyone in Judah and all Israel understood that David was not responsible for Abner’s murder."

David demonstrated to the people by his fasting that he was not part of the plot of Joab, and that he mourned the death of Abner. The people understood by his actions.

People notice what we DO! Actions speak louder than words-- how I conduct myself influences my family and those around me more than any convincing words I can throw out. I need walk the walk, and not talk the talk. I pray that my actions reflect God's purpose in me.

Blessings and prayers for all,
Jacque

Lori, you sweet sister, thank you for sharing so openly. I can so relate. Last year around this time, I lost my job and we lost our home (it was tied into my job). I was so ashamed (pride of sin for I asked God to lead me out of a desperate situation and He did), fear took over as my husband's 2 jobs were not enough to cover our needs. Where I live our unemployment rate is near 20% so jobs are not plentiful. The Lord led me to a very part-time job and has met our needs for the past year, every single time! Never ahead of time, but always right on time. Monday night my husband lost his one job. Fear crept in and I wallowed in. But now, I am turning that fear to God. He knows the path He is taking us on and that job was a boulder in the way. Yes, we depended on the money, but God will provide for all our needs. Praise to Him. Today my nugget is 4:9b (from the NIV as I like that translation for this) "as surely as the Lord lives, who has delivered me out of all troubles." Yes, it is the Lord who has and does deliver me.

Wendy, your words today were such a help and right on target. I have a page full of notes!

His,
Gaylene

I need the tools that I believe are given at 'She Speaks' conference to be more effective at inspiring and encouraging others. I feel God calling me to speak to people about praising, worshiping, and being obedient to God through what I like to call the "even if" times. God expects us to express our faith to the world "even if" setbacks, tragedies, and sorrow strike. He also expects us to express our faith to the world "even if" we feel inadequate, it seems too difficult, or we constantly battle the accuser. It is my prayer that you will consider me for a scholarship so I can obtain the tools I need to be more effective for God.

My devotional calendar for today says "You pay God a compliment by asking great things of Him." ~ Teresa of Avila. "If we ask anything according to his will, he hears us." 1 John 5:14

So far, this deeply embedded dream in me to speak/write has been a prayer answered by 'wait on Me!' But, God is stirring in me to believe with great FAITH that this scripture in 1 John will be fulfilled. So, with great faith, I am asking to be considered for this scholarship so that maybe, just maybe, this will be the beginning of God's answer to my prayers changing from 'wait' to "Child of Mine...Go For It!!" Thank you so much for this chance to be my beginning...

Wendy you know that I want to attend the She Speaks conference so badly. You helped me this year in making my decision to listen to God and stop furthering my education to teach nursing so I could further my education by reading God's Word and teaching it. What a ride it has been! I know He has great things in store for me and I feel that this conference will get me on my way to reach this journey He wants for me. Please consider me for this scholarship. My husband is not getting enough work even to pay the power bill let alone for me to come to the conference. I know God will provide and am praying that you will choose me for this wonderful opportunity. Wendy I have not yet listened nor read our scripture for today but I know it will be a blessing as always.

Lori, thank you for sharing that experience with us. Praise God that He made you realize what the enemy was doing. That shows what happens when we stay close to the Word - we become aware of the whispers of the Holy Spirit.

It was hard to find nuggets in today's reading. I did notice Abner when he turned from Ishbosheth and said in 1 Sam 38b-10a "After all I have done for your father, Saul, and his family and friends by not handing you over to David, is this my reward—that you find fault with me about this woman? 9 May God strike me and even kill me if I don’t do everything I can to help David get what the Lord has promised him! 10 I’m going to take Saul’s kingdom and give it to David. I will establish the throne of David over Israel as well as Judah.." This brought back one of Wendy's blog titles "The I's have it." Abner, it's not you, it's God. Then as I was shaking my head at Abner, the Holy Spirit brought to remembrance the things I have said and the things I have done and my sin of pride came to the forefront. The Holy Spirit convicted me: "G&P, it's not you, it's God." I am sorry, Father. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I repent of it. Please help me turn away from it and remember it is only through Your grace that my family and I live, breathe, thrive and exist. Thank you, Father, for Your gentleness, forgiveness.and willingness to cleanse us when we repent and confess.

I'd just like to add what Jon Courson said about Abner. "Abner means "enlightening". Abner was a man who spent most of his life fighting against David. But there came a time when he turned around and joined David. As such, he is a wonderful illustration, an important picture of people to spend much of their lives fighting agains the Son of David, Jesus Christ. But finally they become enlightened and follow Him.

"In preaching a simple message, telling his people to follow David, little did Abner know that 18,000 fighting men would transfer their allegiance from the household of Ishbosheth to become part of the kingdom of David. The same can be true of you. The one simple message you preach as you change allegiance can make all the difference in the world. Therefore, I call upon lukewarm Christians to consider if the Lord is allowing unhappiness and uneasiness to take place in your life because your allegiance is not solid, your commitment not sincere. Who are you fighting for? What side are you really on? Turn to Him today. He will abundantly pardon." (vo. 1, p. 909)

Amen.

She Speaks! I'd LOVE to attend this Conference (and win a scholarship) because, by God's calling, I've been asked to 'step up my game' and go from writer, editor, blogger - to speaker.

Here's my story. I have been a Christian-genre writer, editor, and publicist for many years. I worked for my wonderful church (Lake Pointe Church, Rockwall, Texas) for six years as editor-in-chief, lead writer, for their magazine. It shared all the good stuff going on within and through our congregation. It was such a blessing to prepare each time! But God called me out - out into the wonderful world of freelance, where my ministry focus could expand to His entire Church, not just the one I attend/worked for. So, I quit my day job. I have been freelancing "on the side" for 12 years and have edited many books written by Christian authors (some listed on my new blog at writervoice1.wordpress.com). Then, one week later, my mentor (and a client) Thelma Wells, A Woman of God Ministries, asked me to do the unthinkable: she asked me to join her and others on TV and on a Webcast University that she is preparing (she's a busy, busy lady for God!). I can't say no - nor do I want to - but I have no speaking training. Teaching Bible study for 7 years has given me lots of confidence, but I've never taped a presentation nor stood in front of a crowd larger than 50. I want to take this next step - to speak - and allow God to use me as He has prepared. And, ladies, I do believe He is preparing me for Kingdom work!
I know graduates of She Speaks!, namely author Mary DeMuth, and would love the chance to enhance my profile to include SPEAKING for Him! It would be a wonderful adventure and the fulfillment of a tugging that I've not been able to ignore.
Thank you for making this contest available. I'm sure whomever wins will be the RIGHT choice! Blessings to you today in all you do for His kingdom!

FYI - being newly "self-employed" and my husband tentatively unemployed, there's no way I could afford to attend without assistance. Thanks again for the chance to WIN!

Good Beautiful Morning GIGs,
I am so glad that I was not the only one that read the reading and did not come away with a nugget. I actually left my journal page blank today until I watched the video. I know we all have days that are like that.

Lori I can relate to what you said. I was not like that yesterday, but got up today, today of all days, tired and not feeling the best. As I was sitting at my kitchen table typing out our prayer God placed on my heart what the root of mine was. Mine was just the simple lack of taking care of myself properly yesterday. I was so busy cleaning out the kitchen I did not stop and eat a good lunch. I grabbed some crackers instead of making something healthy. Dinner was homemade BBQ and we usually love that, but last night it did not set well with me. I just did not eat well and today I was paying for it. I got up and ate an omelet full of spinach and tomatoes and just drank a strawberry banana protein shake and did some exercise for 45 minutes and my energy is back and I am feeling ready to tackle this day. It is just an example how Satan will use anything to keep us from where God wants us, even our food choices.

About jealousy, I can relate to what Wendy said about the friend who has the husband who is such a strong spiritual leader. I have a friend like that and I have actually caught myself agreeing with her when she says she has the best husband. I actually said, "yes, ___ is the best husband." Then I corrected myself and said, "no I am not suppose to say that, I am suppose to say mine is the best." But ladies, did I really feel that? Jealousy can take over in moments like that when she is talking about their weekly family devotionals, the small group they lead, how they pray every night and books they are reading together. It can be hard. But I have to keep remembering what Lysa said that I posted a few days ago, "I am not equipped to be her, to handle her good or her bad. I am only equipped to be me and where God has placed me." Lori shared from her Beth Moore study not to long ago to me that we have to look at it as God has chosen us to see His glory in an amazing way. We get to participate in something that others won't get to see. I have to remember that and I do today as I pray for our spouses and God's work in their lives.

You all have a great day! I am off to pray....

Brandee, TN

PS Anyone else going to see Beth Moore this weekend for her So Long Insecurity Simulcast?

God has provided a few opportunities over the years allowing me to teach and speak. I always get a thrill from speaking because God provides such peace and guides my words. However, just thinking about the prospect of being on the "front lines" and opening myself up to the criticism and the scrutiny that one bares serving in this capacity, almost paralyzes me with fear. And though I know God equips anyone He desires to use, I still feel insecure about my abilities.

The She Speaks Conference has always interested me but time and money kept the door closed on this opportunity. This year was no different because I was scheduled to participate in the International Hearts at Home Conference in Europe. The conference had to be cancelled due to the volcanic ash. This in turn, opened up the time needed to attend the She Speaks Conference. And now this contest has presented me with the chance to overcome the financial burden. So I feel as if God is telling me to "get out of the boat."

So here I am, following God's orders, trying to keep my eyes on Him and not the fear that is threatening to overwhelm me. Thank you so much for this opportunity.

Runner Mom - I too read today's reading and thought, "yuck" I don't like all the bloodshed! It's there for a purpose though..I have to keep reminding myself of that.
Lori - my prayer life has fallen flat as of late...and I try to keep praying thru it, but it is hard. Of course it's Wednesday again and time to pray, pray, pray, so with God's help I will do my best. Any answers to why our prayer life ebbs and wanes? Do I have some sin I need to deal with?
G&P - the Abner being "enlightened" analogy to us becoming enlighted to Jesus was great. Thank you for sharing that commentary so much. It adds so much for me.
Abner sounded like a bragger to me too..."I did this, I'll do that" I need to be careful what I take credit for in life when the credit really belongs to God.

fast and pray,
Morgen

I'm not sure what the specifics are, but I know God is.
I'm not sure where the destination is, but I know He is.
All that I'm sure of is that He is moving in me, working in me, preparing me, and beginning to open doors that are beckoning me to enter. It's due to those recognitions that I am stepping out, beyond my fears and entering this giveaway.

Lord, if it is in Your will for me to attend She Speaks, I pray for the door to be opened and for the courage to leap through with abundant faith. I pray for each woman entering, that You will clearly manifest Your way and Your will for their lives.

Good Morning All, I was bother by Michal being given to David in 2Sam 3:13-16. My heart was heavy that Palti wept & followed after Michal. Then I thought, wasn't she married to David 1st?
Well here is the story, 1Sam 18:27-28 Saul gave Michal to David in marriage. Scripture says she loved David. In 1Sam 25-44, Saul gives Michal to Palti. I wondered if Michal was upset? How many years were Michal & Palti together? Did she fall in love with Palti?
In 2Sam 3:13-16 Ishbosheth gives Michal back to David. Palti wept when she was taken from him. How sad for him. He must of loved her. However she was not his rightful wife. Lesson learned? Not sure, but I need to be mindful of what God's will & ways are. I shouldn't second guess His will & ways. Putting my will, my way into a situation can cause other to wept & not follow after Jesus.
Well enjoy this day the Lord has made!
Blessings & Peace, Mary

Morgen, I been thinking about your question…When we read God’s Word, the Bible, He is speaking directly to us. As we pray, we are in the same way, speaking directly to our Father, who is listening to our every word. By this exchange, we experience true fellowship, a personal relationship with our Father. And, the more I ponder over this, the more I see how this is exactly the opposite of what the enemy wants of us. That last thing he wants is us to get closer in our personal relationship with our Father. The enemy would like nothing better than to defeat us.

I believe it’s kinda like exercise – there are days we just want to skip a work-out, but we plunge ahead, and always feel better afterwards…and we have to do the same thing with our daily prayer time. We have to covet & protect it, and just do it, even when we don’t feel like it – and realize it’s Satan that is trying to get us to not converse with our Father.

I also, got to thinking…how, truly I did know yesterday, all morning long how my thoughts were after me. As much as I tried to turn them over, “I” could not. I’d be good for a bit, but then the thoughts would come right back. I did not “reach for the phone” like in my past, to share my pity-party with another…and God showed me today, clearly, that it was a Believer (Karen, thank you!) that saved me. God spoke through the words of a sister! That is why we need to be surrounded with fellow-believers. It keeps our pity-time to a minimum!
Off to do some more praying,
Love you all! Lori

God has been nudging. He's got me writing devotional blogs for women; now I'm feeling a nudge towards an eventual teaching ministry. I'm sure this will include speaking at some point. I don't know when, but I do know it is my responsibility to become ready for the call when it comes. Scary but exciting. I was a high school teacher before I was a stay home mom, but getting up in front of a group of my peers to teach them the Word of God is intimidating. I would like to gain some confidence here, and I believe She Speaks could do that. With my husband in full-time ministry, your scholarship would allow me to attend when I otherwise would not be able. Pick me!!

I am just catching up on my readings and hoping, like some others recently, to get back on track with the vlog and comments. I usually read the comments late at night on my phone and do not get on the computer to type out my own comments. I want to thank each of you for all the research and help you do in giving me a better understanding of the Word in so many instances. After I learned to pray for the Holy Spirit to give me fresh revelation, before beginning to read, I began to understand and be able to apply so much more of the scripture to my life. But you gals are just awesome and bring such life and detail to the Word. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I have been following and praying with and for so many of you. Thank you, Brandee and Lori and Grace & Peace for the encouragement and prayer for the salvation and transformation of our husbands. It is a God-given vision for me as well, G&P, to drink from the good well water and be able to have spiritual conversation, prayer, devos and mission trips with my husband. I can tell you, the Lord is also doing a mighty work in me and revealing lots of areas that I need to change and allow God to move in my life as I seek this for my husband. I have had tremendous breakthrough even recently and the Lord is restoring trust and true intimacy in our relationship. Some of this breakthrough came after I surrendered to God that I wanted Brady to serve him for Brady's sake, not for my sake. I had to release the thoughts of pride in the future Christian marriage that God would give me. (Not sure if that makes since to anyone) Even recently and the Lord is restoring trust and true intimacy in our relationship. I am often just floored at how our relationship has grown but will just get down and out afterward as I see so much more that I seek in a vibrant Christain marriage. I too suffer from jealous pangs as I hear my friends speak of the things they get to share and do with their husbands, like leading small groups in their home, but I know the Lord is still preparing me and my husband for what OUR mission field will be.

Thank you Wendy and all you other GiGs! You have truly blessed and encouraged me.

Blessed Believer,
Sheryl

God led me to the Proverbs31 site today! I am thrilled to be considered for a scholarship to SheSpeaks, as our finances on my husband's retirement income are adequate for daily living, but certainly not overflowing. I know God has given me a passion for ministering to women by encouraging them in their personal walks with God. Whether it's through a platform of leading Bible studies and small groups or stepping out into a broader speaking role remains to be seen, but I know God is preparing me for something more. I can't wait to see what is in store!

Sheryl, I noticed a real switch in what God was doing in my husband's life after I made the switch in my own life. It was no longer about poor me who had to sit at church week after week by herself. Or poor me that does not have someone to pray with like so and so does. It shifted to all about him and wanting him to be free, to be healed for himself. I know that I am a strong enough woman to walk this path out as long as it takes for God to change his heart. I know I have the strength of my Lord with me every single minute. There are still hard times and still times like I wrote about that sneak up on me, but they are not as often. I think of the glory that is going to be when Jesus Christ is revealed! Oh what a glorious day! It was Sheryl when I truly let go that God began doing His greatest work in John's heart. I have seen things in the past year that can only be God working. I know when I let go He could take over :)

Back to praying...

God moves in mysterious ways. I thought my season of "public speaking" had passed. I instead have been focusing on writing, while raising my three lovely daughters. I was completely comfortable with this shift. Several years ago a friend encouraged me to attend a She Speaks conference but the cost was prohibitive. So I put it all in a "past season" category and left it at that. This morning when I read that another scholarship would be offered I felt compelled to read about the details. All while reading I was thinking "this will be so nice for someone else." Then a small voice said "do it." Uh-oh was my first thought, it seems God might want to take me out of my comfort zone. Since then God has led me to scriptures of confirmation that I am to enter this contest. For what purposes I do not know, but I do know that when God speaks and you follow amazing things always happen. Thank you for offering this wonderful opportunity and encouragement to so many women, who like me have a God story to share.

On July 20th, 2006, the Lord led me into a wilderness of brokenness I’ve never known before. Everything I held dear, He gently and very quickly stripped away-my calling, my home, my church, my friends, my comfort zone. God brought me to a new arena that was very frightening to me. Being the ultimate Girl Scout, I always prided myself in knowing what was going to happen next. I was serving the Lord but with a prideful resistance. I could have never foretold the pain I learned in this desert wilderness. I was so completely broken and stripped bare of any resemblance of self.
As God ordained each aspect of how the brokenness came forth, I heard His gentle voice speak, “I am going to use your mouth to encourage women. I am going to publish things through you. Where you are is not where you are going and I am getting ready to accelerate things”. I sure wish I could say I believed Him. In the pain and the countless tears of grieving over the life I thought was mine, I was very angry with the Lord and verged on much disrespect toward our Heavenly Father. I tried to bargain with Him that I would do anything, absolutely anything if he would just give me my old life back. I yearned for the familiar for what I thought I needed and even though my calling was crystal clear, I seemed to be paralyzed by fear. Many questions stirred in my mind…How Lord? How are you going to accomplish this calling?
Being completely and utterly honest, at that time, I didn’t even like women. In my past, I have been on the receiving end of spitefulness which included haughtiness, jealously, and fakeness to say the least. Why would you call me away from my love of being a Children'sMinister to encourage women? But Praise God, His ways are always higher than my ways.
These last four years since my calling was revealed, I have experienced God in the most phenomenal ways. I have been an eyewitness to his grace as He is opening door after door to speak, to encourage, and to minister to all women who steal my heart. He alone, spoke Isaiah 61, “you are a planting of the Lord to display my splendor”. And from this verse, my speaking ministry, Unveiling His Splendor, has been launched as I am daily watching God open doors that no man could open. God has supernaturally used many people to bring me to a platform where I can boldly proclaim His truth, His love, and His grace. I no longer expect an ounce of self to bring forth the perfect will of the Lord.
I eagerly await each new door that presents itself and consider it a privilege and an honor to stand on this platform hand in hand with every woman I encounter. With each new speaking event, He is daily teaching me to lean more on the Holy Spirit and less on myself. In the movie Spiderman, Peter Parker’s uncle states "with great power comes great responsibility.” I feel that way about my speaking ministry. I received power when the Holy Spirit came upon me and God has handpicked me for some unknown reason with this precious calling to love on women.
I would consider it a special honor, another open door, if the Lord allowed me to attend this years’ conference. Being a military wife to a husband who deploys six months out of every year, I have learned to not only rely on God's solid word, but to also trust in His timing. I have dreamed of coming to the conference for three years now but to no avail. I know and trust He will perfect those things which concern me and He will keep me in perfect peace as long as I am focused on Him.
I would humbly accept the scholarship and would be thrilled to attend. I know I would glean much information as I come under the authority of the P31 Ministry Team and as a result, would enhance my skills and strengthen my serve :) Pun intended! May God bless you richly as we serve hand in hand with teaching and equipping all women to walk in love, to stand on His powerful truths, and to fulfill our specific purpose. Much love and many hugs.

I could use the prayers of all you Bible study friends.

For a few weeks I've been very down and can't quite figure out why. I still pray each day for you all and friends who I promised to pray for every day for a year. Although my prayers haven't been very powerful. (Sorry Wendy). I seem to be so overwhelmed with life and financial obligations, those now and those coming up throughout the summer. Monday night I became so down on myself I started beating on myself. I've been getting headaches every day since at least last Friday. It just occurred to me that they might be stress headaches.
I'm sorry if this sounds so negative. I love you all and appreciate you all.
I think I'll play some gospel music while I do things in my bedroom. I usually listen to the T.V. My DVD player can also play CDs.

Hi friends,

I have not watched vlog or read or anything. I am once again asking for your prayers. My family (immediate and extended) is under huge attack in many areas right now. There is much bitterness, anger, resentment, jealousy, rejection, stubborness and greed going on these days. I know I posted previously that a broken relationship was in the process of being healed. Today, was a huge step back and the only thing I can attribute it to is that nasty old devil. Please pray for my family - that God opens hearts, brings forgiveness, mercy and peace. Also - big pain issues going on this past week as well for me, which has led to very little sleep. My son is having another tough teething day. Lord, I need you so bad today!

Thanks as always,
Jodie

Wendy – today, in another devotion I follow, there was a quote that made me come back and decide to write this. “Get into what God made you to be.” Maybe God would like me to learn to be a better speaker so I can share what I have learned? There have been a few things going on in my life in the last 8 years that have brought me closer and closer to the Lord. Life is not easy, and I believe what we learn and what we experience we should share and use to help others when they face difficult situations. In June of 2002 my son was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. I learned to lean harder on God. In 2007 my daughter was diagnosed with anorexia. I learned to lean HARDER on God. In 2008, my husband and oldest son had such difficult issues, my husband told our son he could not come home. I wanted my husband to leave. I learned to LEAN HARDER ON GOD!!! This is the second year I am reading through the Bible with you. God is holding my family close and blessing us as we go through each of these valleys! He is my God and I am searching earnestly for Him each day. My youngest son has had no evidence of NB for nearly 7 years. My daughter has done a tremendous job overcoming the evil of anorexia. And while there is still a ways to go in the reconciliation between my oldest son and my husband, God has showed me many ways that HIS plan of healing is in place. And God helped me to love my husband more than ever! I just want to encourage others – we have a WONDERFUL GOD and SO MUCH to be thankful for no matter what is going on in our lives!!! The creator of the Universe will help us through whatever we will encounter. He didn’t promise it would be easy, but he gives us help along the way. I know God wants me to be one of His helpers. I leave it in HIS hands if he wants me to attend the She Speaks Conference.

I have been involved for many years in my local church teaching Sunday School and Girls Club. I have to say that Girls Club ministry is very special to me. About two years ago I began to feel a need for teaching on a deeper level to teenagers and new converts about really connecting with God and developing a personal relationship with Him. I am passionate about teaching Girls Club and working with teenage girls especially because I remember well my teenage years. I remember the life I led and the way I acted, the things I did, and most of all the mistakes that I made. I also remember that, even though I had Christian friends, I never felt compelled to change my ways. I never saw Christians that made me want a relationship with Jesus. I have a passion to see teenagers (and that includes my own three kids, who are not quite at their teenage years yet, but it's not too young to begin) develop a personal relationship with God. I want to see them realize the potential and plan that He has in their lives. I wish that I had realized and developed my own personal relationship with God much earlier. I began working with some outreach ministry two years ago as well. My husband felt a call to begin driving our church van and he started picking up kids around the area of our church. I enjoyed getting to know the kids and working with them, they were special to me. The first "big" project was an Angel Tree in my local church. It was during this time that I first went out into people's homes and met them. It really increased my desire to see mom's and dad's begin to come to church and get saved. God really changed my heart and how I felt about others, and how I felt about myself and what He had blessed me with, when I went into other people's homes and saw how they lived and the situations and problems they dealt with on a daily basis. It is a humbling experience to see living conditions, trials, and problems that people and children are faced with on a day to day basis. I feel that new convert teaching is important, because so many times people get saved, but don't know what to do next. Or, they would like to get saved, but have not been raised in church or even hardly attended church and they just need help in understanding God and His Word. I feel a special desire and need to teach new converts and teenagers about developing their relationship with God. In developing "daily walk" habits of reading their Bible, praying, studying, and living their Christian life. I would like to teach Bible studies. I don't know where to start. You would think a person that is involved in teaching in Sunday School, teaching Girls Club, and in working with young people would know where to start, but I don't. I have been praying, reading, studying, writing, journaling... doing all the things I feel necessary to move forward, but my feet seem stuck. The women of Proverbs 31 are an amazing and inspiring group, and I feel that attending the She Speaks conference would answer questions I have about moving forward and following this calling I feel in my life.

I have heard of “She Speaks” conference only from Proverbs 31 ministries.
I looked up the information on the web and became very interested very quickly.

When I was a young woman (teenage years) I had a woman minister speak into my life and tell me that I was someday going to tell the world my story, being young and naïve and I had a “Whatever “ attitude and went about my business.
Here it is 15 years later and I remember that day like it was yesterday, because through all the pain and suffering in my life I have recently (2 years) have finally decided to do it God’s way. God has put a book in my heart to write entitled “I’m Nobody’s Secret” It is the story of my life and how God has stamped those very words on my heart and through lots of prayer and counseling I am realizing how valuable my life is to Him.

I have looked at different resources to help me in accomplishing this God dream and because of limited money on my part I know that anywhere I go will only be by His command. Thank you for the opportunity to share. Maria Olvera - Lomeli

I have had a part time ladies' ministry for about 7 years. However, about 21 months ago, right when it SEEMED the Lord was leading me into a more full-time speaking ministry it virtually became non-existent. Not through any wrong doing of my own, but through some pretty tough circumstances that instead, had me sitting at His feet and simply being still as He worked on transforming me in ways I could never have imagined (which He is continuing to do). Not to say that every day was spent "being still" because I had many days of doubt, questions and wrestling matches. The reality is, God WAS leading me into more of a full-time capacity, except it was God's plan to first take me through the fire ... "But He knows the way that I take; When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold!" [exclamation point mine] Job 23:10.

God already knows which precious lady will be the recipient of the She Speaks scholarship. I'm simply excited for the opportunity to throw my name into the hat and will be thrilled for whomever is selected.

Writing is something that I have been doing for a long time, and I've managed to keep it to myself in my journal... until recently.

Speaking is something that I very recetly felt called to do as I wrote and led the fall womens' retreat for my church in '09. This was the 1st time I had ever done anything like that and it was WAY out of my comfort zone!

Since then, I have been feeling the call to vocational ministry, and I believe that She Speaks is my next step!
http://shellysc.blogspot.com/2010/03/shelly-says-he-speaks-will-she-speak.html

Will you consider me for the scholarship?

My husband is without full-time work (since December '08), and I know we can't afford it on our own.

I have been praying about attending "She Speaks" for the past two years and now I feel a passion for the Lord like never before in my life. I have always had a gift of public speaking and now actually teach it at a college level but my new passion is to share my story of stuggle and searching for Christ's love while in college. I know this conference would give me so much valuable experience to help keep other young women from making the same mistakes I did in college! I long to share the love of the Lord through speaking! My husband has been laid off for over a year and while the Lord has provided me with 3 jobs...there just isn't quite enough left for the conference. I would be so greatful for a scholarship! Thank for you the oppurtunity! Blessings, Michelle

For years, God has nudged me to attend She Speaks. For many reasons, I have been unable to go. As my speaking opportunities have grown and my ministry increased, I know that this year, I need to be there.

I have been speaking for 6 years and am grateful to do something I feel so passionately about. It is a blessing to be able to encourage women to live their lives intentionally. Over the years, I have worked to expand this ministry but am now at the point where I need additional help. The sectionals offered at She Speaks teach the very things I need to learn to do. In addition to this, I have begun to write and am interested in learning more about publishing so that I can find new ways to encourage and empower women. Every part of this conference speaks exactly to where I am right now in my work for the Kingdom!

This scholarship means so much to me and to our family. Finding a way to afford the conference has been difficult for us. I know, however, that God will not be contained by the constraints of our economy. He is so much bigger than that! I trust Him fully to help me find a way to attend She Speaks this summer and am so grateful for yet another opportunity for a scholarship.

Thank you so much!

I have wanted to attend a She Speaks conf. for two years, but haven't been able to do so. I have felt a calling to speak to women and ten girls for nearly two years. I have been a youth leader and got to teach many that way. I am now in a new phase of life and feel an even stronger calling to reach out to women and teen girls and just have not been able to figure out how. Getting this would be an answer to prayer of how I am to start and continue in God's will.

Thank you Lori for the exercise analogy....just keep plugging away and I'll have a payoff...When I feel less connected to God, I tend to get so I skip days of praying and pretty soon before I know it I'm really in a blah way.
I am opening my heart to Him better today.

When I first got the desire to speak publically, I read the book “The Reason We Speak” by Marybeth Walen. I have read it cover to cover and it is an excellent book! The entire time I was reading it I knew God was preparing me for a much larger journey in my life. Larger than anything I had done. God spoke to me to become a speaker and minister to women to serve the needs of the brokenhearted and to help others find the intimate relationship with God that I have found. Since that time I have a God-Given purpose in my life and a clear goal at which to aim.

I have never attended “She Speaks” nor have I ever had the funds to attend. My husband has been without a steady income since last May, so this will not be the year with a scholarship.

If I win, it would be life-changing and I know the knowledge I would gain would give me the wisdom and the faithful instruction to pursue this heart felt endeavor I so desire. If I don’t I’ll keep on blogging at “My Faithful Living” and will continue to minister the word of God. I want to be a spiritual leader but I am also a spiritual learner. He is in charge! I can only be a tool to accomplish His purpose for us here on earth.

I want this, I want this, I want this! Just in case you didn't get my extreme desire for this scholarship I'll say it again - I WANT THIS! LOL! I know I share this desire with many other women too - and I praise God for all the women who have the courage to listen to God's call and obey! How many lives will be transformed and saved by these strong women (including their own)! I deeply long for a chance to learn more and become better equipped to speak and reach out to women! I know my life's calling is to share and spread God's love - I just need a bit of help to do this! I do not have the financial means to attend this conference but my heart is full of desire for all it offers! This would give me the tools, motivation and growth I need to continue to live out God's plan for me. Thank you for this amazing opportunity! Prayers and blessings to all!

I have been a single mom for almost 3 years. The night I discoverd my husband's extra marital activities was a turning point for me wherein I finally saw Jesus as my only true security. I had always looked to my dad (who had passed away 6 months prior) or my husband. The relationship I have now with Christ is exceedingly and abundantly beyond anything I could have possibly imagined I could ever have. God has very recently called me to become a Personal Guidance Minister for Scope Ministries and I begin training for this in May. I am so excited about sharing my experiences and the love of Christ with other single mothers that I cannot right now keep up with my fingers as I type! I think that I am much more comfortable with speaking than I am with writing and I have never been to a "She Speaks" conference! This would be an amazing experience for me, especially right now during the dawning of my calling! Thanks for providing the possibility of being blessed with a scholarship to this event! I don't think I will be able to attend without such a blessing this year, but maybe someday soon!

Hi Wendy,
I'm one of the many women hoping for a scholarship to the upcoming "She Speaks" conference and I must say, I' truly inspired by the overwhelming generosity of Cec Murphey! Almost every time I see the opportunity for scholarships to "She Speaks" and to other conferences, they always come attached with Cec's name as the benefactor. So thank you, Cec and thank you Proverbs 31 women for offering yet another opportunity for a chance to go to this wonderful conference.

As a speaker of over 20 years and a newbie to the world of writing and publishing, I find that the simplest way to express why I want to attend "She Speaks" is because I feel as though I'm supposed to be there and I know that unless the Lord provides financially for me to go, it's just not in our financial cards this year.

Not only do I sense that I'm supposed to be there, but also that I "need" to be there, as well. I can't explain it. But I'm truly looking forward to how the Lord will use my time at "She Speaks" to change me, to develop me, to give me the opportunity to do one of my favorite things...spend time with like-minded women who long to make a difference for the glory of God.

Eternally His,

would love to be able to attend She Speaks, but financially it has been a difficlut season. I pray God will bless the woman who is supposed to win this scholarship, but that He will enable all of us to continue to tell our stories.

I believe that we all have a story to tell. Our stories are all different, but I believe that God is truly the author of them all. My greatest desire is to use my story to show His glory in my life.
I want to enable others to see the Hope that they can have as they trust Jesus on the journey. I love teaching and would like to broaden my Ministry by speaking as well.

Father,

Your girls JR and Jodie need some good water today. You are that well that will never run dry. I pray you will shower down upon them even now and flood their souls with peace, love and full joy in Jesus Name.

Reading today I noticed, David was indeed a man of forgiveness. He was willing to forgive Abner and allow him to join forces with him. True forgiveness does not hold past sins against the offender.

Joab & Abishai taking revenge in their own hands caused their families to be cursed in every generation with a man with deprosy. Was it really worth it?

Recab and Baanah lost their lives trying to impress man (David). We don't have to kill others with our words or deeds to get ahead. The scripture says in Prov. 18:16
A man's gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.

We are only to impress God with our prayers, praise and a life devoted to decreasing as he increasing in our lives.

Blessings!

Debbie - North Carolina

I also believe that I am to write, but I don't even have a clue as to how to go about it. I would LOVE the opportunity to come to this conference and learn what a blessing it would be and an honor. Jennifer Renee and Jodie,
The Lord is with you. You have only to ask for his help. He will protect you from the things that can harm you, the things that can depress your spirit, the negativity that can extinguish hope. You will both get through these tough times. But none of us can get through tough times alone. None of us can be the women we want to be on my own. Every single one of us was sent to Wendy's 2010 Bible Study for a reason. It is part of His plan for each of us. Come on -- let's hold hands and pray and care for each other and help each other ask for, and receive, His help. Praying for you both, dear Jodie and Jennifer.

Okay, so I'm posting today without having heard much of the vlog - only about 4 seconds will play at any given time for me right now - and I only got to Brandee's comment before feeling the need to jump ahead and share this (I'll go back and keep reading and trying to watch, I promise).

Last night my Bible study took a road trip to Danville, VA, to watch 'Letters to God.' We cried buckets, of course, but there was a point made by a neighbor/grandpa that I've been thinking about all day. He told the little boy, who was facing teasing at school as a result of his changed appearance due to chemo, that God had chosen him for this special task, and that he was God's warrior. He told the boy that by showing Jesus to the others in his bravery and kindness, they would look for the source of his peace - and in doing so, they would look for and find God. The boy later told his mom, when she felt overwhelmed, that God had chosen her to be his mom through the trial of his brain cancer.

This is what Grace and Peace was talking about via Jon Courson a few days ago, I believe, but the explanation hit me differently this time. Gaylene, God must have chosen you specifically to handle the trial of being without the jobs and income that you previously depended upon. Brandee, God's chosen you to lead us in praying for our unsaved loved ones and to teach us the importance of taking care of ourselves.

Sometimes, in the craziness of daily life, I forget just how much He must love us and just how specific His plans are for each one of us. This movie - which is based on a true story - really reminded me of those truths. It's leaving theaters fast. If you have the opportunity to go see it, hurry! It's worth the buckets of tears!

Now, back to my vlog attempts .....

Today, has been a blessed day lifting up the needed prayer requests to our loving Father, who always has an open ear. Thank you, LORD! Remember Jennifer Renee, Jodie, Gaylene/husband!), Loice’s precious daughter, Paola/husband, Denise, and the others who are in the middle of tough situations right now. Each of you are God’s daughters. God knows everything about you, (Psalm 139:1) even when you sit down and when you stand up ( Psalm 139:2). He could even tell you how many hairs are on your head this very minute (Matt. 10:29-31). He made you all in His own image; (Gen. 1:27) just know, that you are His beautiful offspring (Acts 17:28) and it is His desire to lavish His love on you (I John 3:1). He is your provider and He will meet all of your needs (Matt.:31-33). He is able to do more for you than you could possibly imagine (Eph. 3:20). He is your greatest encourager (2 Thes. 2:16—17) so, sit back, close your eyes, and know that He too, is your Father who will comfort you in all of your troubles (2 Cor. 1: 3-4). Just as a shepherd carries a lamb, He is carrying you close to His heart. (Isa 40:11). How I wish you were near so I could hug you in person - Lori

We praise You, Father for the work you are doing in their lives and in each of us. Thank you for the honor of being able to come to You with our needs and to minister to each other. Thank you, Father. In Jesus' wonderful name we pray.

Friends, I want to share what I heard today at a memorial service for Esther, the mother of a friend from church. He had his Mom's bible with him and he read notes that she wrote in the margin of her bible with the dates she wrote them. I am going to start doing that from now on. I do write on mine but I don't put the date. Another thing that was shared about Esther was her acronym for "bible":

B-asic
I-nstruction
B-efore
L-eaving
E-arth

It's true, isn't it? Now when I hold my bible, it has a whole new meaning for me.

I have never met Esther but I hope that when I go, my kids, friends and pastor would say the things they said about her.

AND...the enemy tried to get me on a jealousy ride before I left for the memorial. Received a text message from a former co-worker who told me she interviewed for a position at another law firm that paid $40/hour MORE than what we make per hour. I was astounded and almost went into "Why her?" mode but I remember what Lori shared and how the enemy tried to steal her joy by making her have a pity party. The enemy is doing the same to me - so I just laughed and said, "Nice try!"

Have a blessed day, everyone!

Brandee, I sent you an e-mail re the Beth Moore book you discussed in your blog today. I just wanted to know which one it is in case my email was bounced. Thanks, sister!

I have felt that God is calling me to some sort of speaking ministry for a while. I am not sure what it will look like...waiting on My King to show me! I am currently a lay WOmen's minstry leader in my church and teach a weekly ladies Bible study. I have also recently been approached about leading a session on mentoring in our local area. I am excited to see what my Jesus has in mind. I would love to attend the SHe Speaks conference and polish my skills and connect with others who feel His call in this direction. Thank you for the possible opportunity to attend.

Father, Abba, Daddy, please reach down and touch Jodie and Jennifer and relax them and remove the effects of the stress they are under. Remove the depression that Satan uses to keep us down and feeling like there is no reason to go on. Touch family situations, and financial situations and resolve them in Your time and in Your way, but in the meantime while they are waiting for You to finish Your work, give them the peace that passes all understanding that will keep their HEARTS AND THEIR MINDS. Fill them with so much peace that they will know that it had to come from You.
I thank You in advance for what You are doing now and what You are going to do in the future for these 2 dear sisters.

I promise I have not disappeared off of the face of the earth. Life has thrown me some major curve balls lately and as of this week and most of last week, I've been trying to get back into the swing of things. I lost 2 friends, on 2 different occassions, within the span of 3 weeks. Both were a shock and unexpected. God has sent me deep reminders that it pays to be ready at any given hour, to meet Him. Both were wonderful godly examples of what Christians should be. And instead of funerals we had Life Celebrations where God was surely praised and worshiped! We had to travel to Ohio to be with one family and the other was close here to home. I've been having to read two devotions a day to get caught back up! I just haven't had time to comment.

I've been learing quite a bit from these Bible studies. Looking forward to all that God has for me as I draw closer to him.

Lately I have been feeling this tug at my heart to speak or to minister to other women in some way, shape or form. I am an Army Wife. This unique lifestyle and all the bumps in the road along the way would allow me to be able to relate to all types of women. I would love to be able to attend the conference, but unfortunately military pay makes things in our family tight. I would love to win! God bless you and God bless this ministry. I have fallen in love with P31!

I am resigning my teaching job to enter into the field of Women's Ministry at our church. Bascially, I am designing the program from the ground up and need help a lot of help. Without a teaching salary I will need financial assistant (my husband and I have had three girls in college at the same time - our twins are graduating this year so money has been tight). I am desiring to train other women to be leaders as well as lead them myself through workshops that equip them, events that encourage them, and skills that will help them be better evangelists. Blessings on all that you do for the Proverbs 31 Ministry.

What a responsibility! What I first embraced as a passion to speak and write for my loving God, I now hold so very dear to my heart and I want to walk both faithfully and carefully down this path that God has made for me. I know God has called me to speak and write for Him and I taking each little baby step that I can with Him and embracing with this journey every open and closed door—trusting that God knows best and is leading the way.
I have researched ways to sharpen and better equip myself and I have not found anything like “She Speaks.” I have been praying about attending the last couple of years and honestly, the funds are tight and I have not been able to fork the bill on top of the airfare. If I am chosen for this scholarship, I will know that God desires to use the women at the conference to inspire and equip me to serve for His kingdom. To God be the glory, amen.
Julie Lane

have been a “closet writer,” so to speak, for the past twenty years. It was this past June, after facing unemployment for the first time since I was 15-years-old, that I attended my first ACW Conference. Though I still consider myself a beginning writer, I am making quick progress and currently write for five monthly online publications.(for free, of course) I also will have my first write-for-hire book published later this year for Atlantic Publishing. So, I am pleased with my progress with writing so far.

But it is time to go deeper. Think bigger. Take more chances. To get out of the boat and test the waters and see if Jesus will help me walk on them.

My goal is to share the true stories that can change lives. I long to be able to do this through face to face contact as well as through the written word. I consider this a weakness of mine, and would appreciate the opportunity to attend She Speaks so that I may strengthen my ministry. Though I have taught junior high girls classes at church for years, I am in no way polished or professional enough to do so in large groups without my voice quivering or fidgeting at the podium.

The testimonials that come from this conference prove that God is very much a part of the process, inspiring those who participate to go further than they ever dreamed possible.

Thank you for your consideration.

I have been praying for an opportunity to attend a She Speaks conference! I would cherish the blessing of beinga ble to attend. It would be a timely affirmation for me!!
I've been writing for almost exactly a year now on my blog www.afewminuteswithmichelle.com and speaking a bit here and there. I truly feel God's calling to uplift and minister to women.
It has been a very difficult year for me and my family and I feel like the Lord has much to share through my adversity. I would be so grateful for the gift of a scholarship to attend.

Wendy just listened to your She Speaks blog and was amazed that you talked about Moses because that is where I got my confirmation from God about my decision to pursue speaking and teaching the Word to women. I felt like I could not speak and God reminded me on our reading on 2/1/10 Exodus 4: 11-12 "Who makes a person's mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say". When I contacted you about praying for me and how do I know God is calling me to take this step, you asked me if I had scripture confirmation and this was the first one! Like in the face! God really talked to me that day! I want so much to come and hang out with the girls who are being called so we can change the world and get America ready for God's return and also being able to cope with the trials that are set before us and enabling others to defeat satan on a daily basis in our lives. Thanks for all you have done for me Wendy!

Oh how I wish I had the time to leave a long, well thought out reason for why I would like to attend the conference. But alas, I have 3 toddlers who keep me pretty busy and loving every minute of it. I recently completed a 2 year writing course with the Christian WRiter's Guild and have always felt God's leading and blessing on my writing talent. It seems writing is easy for me and lessons seem to come naturally. But speaking...oh how I wrestle with God on this one..especially when I feel him saying, "I could give you what you need to do that..."
Anyway, I know for sure the conference would be great for and help refine my raw gift to God's glory. Thanks for considering me.

Well, here we are, GIG, at the end of our day and what a day it has been!!! Whether we have had a challenging day or an uplifting day...it was the day that the Lord gave to us, and I feel sure that we have rejoiced and have been glad in it...to whatever extent we were able to be glad. He has taught me that He does use each situation I am in to see how I will use it for Him and His Glory. Through each situation--good or bad--He is to be glorified.
We have shared with each other enough to know that whether our day is full of trials or whether our day is one of ease, He has been with us...He will never leave us nor forsake us. Halleluia!!!!!

What precious words of prayers have been spoken and lifted up for our sisters who have hurt, in some way, during the course of this day. What Prayer Warriors are among us!!!! Thank you, Jesus!
So, my prayer is that we now give Him the glory for what He has done for Jen Renee, Jodi,Lori, Gaylene, Sheryl, Paola, Jules, and others who have needed just a little special touch from the Savior.

Sweet Lord,
You are mighty and merciful, and you love each of us so much. I pray that Your love and grace has penetrated our souls today in some small way. Whether we have experienced joy, excitement, loneliness, defeat, confusion, sadness, broken hearts, whatever emotion, I thank you that we have been able to dwell in the shelter of the Most High, and we have rested in the shadow of the Almighty. We praise you, Father, because You are our Refuge and our Strength, an ever-present help in trouble. I thank you that you have taken us through the waters and the fire and You have held us up!!! We praise you for understanding and protection in each situation we went through today. Allow those who have had struggles throughout today be able to rest in Your Comfort tonight, and please allow them to have a better tomorrow...may each of them be assured of Your promise that weeping(of whatever source of cause) may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning, and that Your compassions are new every morning, great is Your faithfulness!!!! Lord, Let us in turn be faithful to You in giving You the adoration of which You, and You alone, are so worthy. We love you, Lord, and we give praise to You as You have loved us with an everlasting love.

"We are not, but we know I AM!!!"

God Bless you, Wendy, for sharing words of wisdom.

I've never blogged before and wrote a little more lengthy one previously that I lost, so I'll make this short.

It would be a dream of mine to make it to this once-in-a-lifetime conference. I've always wanted to go, but never had the means to.

About 3 years ago, I was thrilled to attend a Women of Faith conference, but that was because I volunteered to assist in sales that made it possible. I don't know what blessed me more, the speakers or sharing with the ladies at the sales tables, honestly, it was such a blessing. I knew then that God had a calling on my life to reach others.

So many women and friends have encouraged me to write and speak.
I know if it's the Lords will, He will open the right doors for it to happen.

God bless you, richly, for your ministry.

As I type this comment, I'm full of pain and sadness. It appears the Lord is testing me or training me in the areas of loss and long suffering. Testing or training.... Right now I don't know that one is any better than the other.

I know what the words of Galatians 6:9 read, and I also know, without a doubt, that I'm so close to fainting.

I'm the last person who would ever voluntarily want to speak, but I felt the call to speak to women many years ago. My story, my path toward speaking has been much like Renee Swope’s, as described in her post. I wrote my first Bible study and led a small group of women through it back in 2008/2009. Looking back, I've never been happier than I was during the time I did this.

Just days ago I sat with a friend who was preparing to bury her father. She was a member of that small group in 08. She told me I have no idea how much she talks about and references our nine months together. Listening to her speak of how God used me (a flawed leader and wannabe speaker) and the lessons I penned out of the depths of my own life to impact her life even during this time of loss and pain somehow refueled my desire to speak, teach, and lead women. Somehow...in the midst of my own pain the ministry of my heart took on a face. It became real.

I've entered a previous scholarship contest for this conference. When I didn't make the winners circle I chalked it up as another loss and God moving me away from my quest for validation. I've wanted to attend the conference for at least the past 6 or 7 years. At the end of the day, I believe I'm just thirsty to be around other women who share my passion for pouring into the lives of our sisters. I saw the announcement for the scholarship for writers, and although writing is a large part of my calling, today out of the abundance of my heart my mouth wants to speak.

I realize the winner will be randomly chosen, but I know God already knows the outcome. Maybe it truly isn't for me to attend this year, but I won't stop until the conference doors open and I do or do not walk through. Then and only then will I know God's perfect will. In the meantime, I'll continue striving to speak.

I can honestly say that I've been in the Refiner's fire for the last few months. But God does nothing without purpose. I would love to learn more about sharing what God is teaching me and feel called to attend this conference. For 9 1/2 years I have walked the road of breast cancer treatment. I have had the disease five times during this time, but my story is not about cancer. It is about God's amazing grace, love, provision, strength, comfort, peace, and joy in the midst of the battle. I love sharing all He is and all He has done for my family during this journey. I believe God wants me to speak and write about my story to encourage others with the hope He offers in every situation. I passionately desire to attend She Speaks with my 15-year-old daughter, but we cannot afford it. If it is God's desire for us to attend, He will make a way. He always does. I thank God for Proverbs 31 Ministries and the opportunity to apply for this scholarship!

Lysa your testimony and books has been such a blessing and an inspiration in my life and spiritual walk. I was seriously contemplating a divorce and I received an email from a friend and the topic you were speaking on happened to be on marriage, GOD was truly speaking to me. Since that day which was less than a month ago I purchased What Happens When Women say Yes to GOD, read it and it truly ministered to my soul, Next I purchased Being more than a good bible study girl--Truly Awesome!! My husband bought me What Happens When Women Walk in Faith on yesterday, I am loving it already. I am called to ministry and I know this conference is for me. My grandmother always tell me that I should have been a counselor she also prophesied to me saying GOD was going to use me for his Glory and to minister to other young woman. I know that GOD has a calling on my life and I just want to do his will only. I came into contact with Proverbs 31 ministry by divine order and I know that through your ministry GOD is going to help me to help others. Be Blessed!! Love Ya!! Oh I also purchased a NIV study BIBLe I have a Bible but this one teaches the word more understandable.

Wendy,
I have longed to attend the She Speaks Conference for the past 2 years but have not been able to due to lack of funding and/or ability to take time off from my job. However, I feel this is the year the Lord has said “yes” and that He will provide for me to attend. I am a pastor’s wife and would like to hone my speaking skills. I also lead the women’s ministry here (and teach Sunday School, lead worship with the Praise Team, teach VBS crafts, etc.) and I am sure any encouragement you can give me would be a help to our ministry here. Thank you for the opportunity for a scholarship.

I am one of those few that actually didn’t shudder when a public speaking assignment came from the mouth of our high school teacher. In fact I was the “weirdo” who looked forward to it.

So speaking has come naturally to me. It is something that I really get into. To me, writing and speaking go hand in hand. Telling the words that I have on paper is pretty much the same. The only difference is that there is an audience. And when there is an audience, I come alive! I enjoy getting responses from people whether it be crying at a sad tale or a laugh from a funny time in a story. It makes me feel fulfilled to know that I have an audience and I have lead them on a journey through my story. Taking ladies to places where God touches a nerve is truly a desire of my heart.

I cannot afford to go to the conference this year. It would take a move of God for me to get there. I have a desire to go be it for the writing or the speaking. If not this year then I will go one year to be determined by God.

It would mean so much to me to be a part of She Speaks. I have wanted to go since I learned about it last year. It would mean that God wants me to have a ministry in speaking or writing – the areas that He has gifted me in. Not to be bragging – I’ve just recently been able to say that God has gifted me! If these are the areas that He can use then I want to give Him the opprotunity to do so.

I, like you, love everything that P31 stands for. I have enjoyed getting to know the ladies of P31 better by visiting blogs and I hope to get to more conferences in the future. I would love an opprotunity to attend She Speaks. I have entered every contest that has come my way. This would be an awesome way to kick up a speaking ministry. Whatever God has in store, I am waiting and willing and ready!

Hi,
Over the past few months the Lord has put on my heart to speak to teen girls my age. (i am 13) When i had heard of She Speaks i had been praying that God would make his way clear and show me the next step. as soon as i said that my mom walked in and said "i sent you a link go read it" it was the link to She speaks. as soon as a read the information i wanted to attend. I have started writing but i dont feel like writing can show the emotion you want, since its just words on paper. there is no way i can attend with out gods intervention i would have to get two tickets one for me one for an adult to attend with me. that would be almost $900. thank you for this opportunity!

Wendy,
I love the format on your blog. What a blessing!!

This has been a year of turning for me - transitioning, answering His call. In 1992, the Lord called me to minister to Christian women who are struggling with their faith - women who are not established in the Word. I have been waiting on God for His perfect timing. Now is the time. I have birthed Jubilant Light Ministries - www.jubilantlight.com - after 18 years of labor. I have also recently begun a daily devotional blog, Morning Glory, which teaches little nuggets of gold from God's Word. I would love the opportunity to attend She Speaks! Without a scholarship, I am unable to do so. Thank you for providing this opportunity.

Now, moving on to another blog...

Bless you!

Thank you so much for this additional giveaway!

I have felt so strongly that I need to be at She Speaks this year - the only reason I haven't registered yet is money!

I am passionate both about speaking and writing - I've been teaching Bible studies in my local church for several years now, creating them from my Bible training at Cedarville University and from my own study of the Scriptures. It has been EXCITING to see how God has been transforming lives through women getting into the Word on a deeper level!

After teaching for a while, God opened opportunities for me to speak at several womens' retreats through our church. About the same time, I began blogging and have been stunned to see how God has grown and used this little "ministry" from my living room.

At this point in my life, God is opening doors for me to continue teaching, writing, and speaking - and I would love to glean from the wisdom and training at the Proverbs 31 conference!

Thank you again for the opportunity!

A very close friend first introduced me to Proverbs 31 Ministry. I was going through a vital trial in my life. She read one of the daily devotionals and emailed it to me. She felt that I needed the encouragement that day. It was encouraging. Soon after that, I received another emailed devotional from my friend. Again, she felt I needed encouragement and again, I was. I decided to sign up for the daily devotionals and get them emailed directly to me. I am so glad I did. On many occasions I have been inspired, motivated, encouraged, and equipped with God's Word. It has been refreshing to read about real life stories from other Christian women.

Over the past few years, probably close to about eight or nine years now, I have been slowly pursuing what I believe God is calling me to do for Him: write and speak. I want to encourage others (especially women) to trust Jesus, live for Him, and believe in the power of Him. No matter what, He is good.

It has been a journey I have needed encouragement and focus to succeed. God has provided this every step of the way. I completed my bachelor's degree in communication studies in 2009 and just got accepted into a graduate school program for a master's of art in communication. I know this traditional educational is a necessary part of my journey.

When I saw last week the "She Speaks" conference information, I was again encouraged. This is so awesome that this type of conference is being put together. In the years I have known about Proverbs 31 Ministry, I never seen this before. It just lifted my spirit to know there are people out there helping train others to pursue and live out their dreams, their calling of writing and speaking. I am one of those.

I have never attended a "She Speaks" conference, but it would be amazing to be trained and mentored by others who have been traveling this path already. As I entered the writing contest, I knew it was a long shot, but I also knew it was time to take that risk and put my writing out there for others to read besides professors. I did not win, but I am so thankful I submitted my article. I will continue to work on that article. It is worth the effort. It is worth telling others about.

Now, I have another opportunity to win a chance of attending the “She Speaks” conference. This is very exciting. No matter whether I get to the conference this year or not, I will continue to pray for the Proverbs 31 Ministry team, the training, and the conference so that God's will be done for whoever does attend. Plus, I will keep writing and pursuing His calling on my life.

Thank you for putting in all the time and effort to help others become what God has called them to do for Him.

In Christ’s love,

I felt useless for the kingdom, so I began to pray daily that God would show me where, when, and how He wanted to use me. He asked me to speak at an all day retreat for young women. I was scared silly, but three days in the belly of a whale wasn’t very appealing either so I said yes. Then he sent me to give a talk on live television. I read the whole book of Jonah . . . and said yes again. When I received my third invitation to speak, I went to the She Speaks website. The conference sounds like a perfect fit, but our check book said no. I’m laying it in God’s hands. If He wants to use Cec to get me there, then God is good. If He sends someone else, then . . . God is still good.

As a young, teenage girl I stumbled across God's timeless wisdom for women as wives and mothers found in Proverbs 31:10-31. That "awakening" became the desire of my heart from my youth onward...although I would bump and tumble to a fantastic fall to my face before the Lord before I would realize it.

The summer of 1998 I found myself pregnant, but unwed. Pride shattered and prostrate before the Lord, my Redeemer cleansed me, forgave me, clothed me, and began restoring me (Psalm 51). He granted me a willing spirit to sustain me and garbed me in everlasting joy (Psalm 30).

God's blessings for obedience began to overflow. A month and 18 days later I married my best friend, soul mate, and the daddy of my first son, "Gift from God." The Lord reassured me that he could STILL use me and I prayed as King David did, "Lord, let me teach transgressors your ways." He initially confirmed His word with an instant ministry to a young mom with a story just like mine.

In 2003 the Lord placed the call on my heart to write for Him. He has confirmed His call in more ways and encounters than I can count or name. He has shown me who I am and who I am not. Not one step or season I have lived in has returned void. Rather, God has grown and groomed me for greater things He has set for me ever since He called me. Like Abraham who believed God's promise, the Lord has asked me, "Do I believe Him that the Almighty WILL accomplish this?"

I remember my Lord, the Promise-keeper. Not ONE of His good promises has ever failed. He knows what I need before I ask. Before a word is even on my tongue, He is there. He KNOWS me completely. Hearkening back, I can trace His hand in my life, connecting the dots He has set for me. My Lord has never left me. His presence, promises, and protection are mine. He is FAITHFUL.

I answer, "Yes, Lord. I BELIEVE you." I ask and pray. I wait. I study His word. I connect with the Lord as His Holy Spirit guides, convicts, and teaches me. He shows me my "next step". I cling to the word He spoke to my heart, "The one who calls you IS FAITHFUL, and HE WILL DO IT." 1 Thessalonians 5:24

Just today I asked the Lord to clarify my "next step" for ministry. As if the "green light" from my amazing husband and dual support of my Little Mama and mother-in-love ("My Naomi"), discovering this scholarship opportunity tonight was nothing short of God's impeccable timing. A gift trip to my first She Speaks conference would be yet another confirmation from my Lord that I am keeping in step with His Spirit. While I make plans in my heart, the Lord directs my steps. Praise Him!

It is amazing how God works in each of our lives! I was reading Lysa’s blog and noticed the She Speaks scholarship offer. I was not familiar with the conference, but as I read the through the site I found myself excited and filled with anticipation. Our God has awesome plans for each of us and my journey has been amazing!
I felt called to ministry when I was 14; I am now 41. The journey has led me to seminary, a Masters in Christian counseling, and now I am in a season of motherhood to two beautiful children under the age of five.
Over the last year, I have on several occasions felt the Lord directing my steps toward a speaking ministry. Recently, I was approached by our local Baptist Association about doing a mini-conference on mentoring to our area churches. I am also the lay director of Women’s Ministry at my church. I love pouring out into the woman of my church and long to use the gifts God has given me to lead others to healing and wholeness in Christ.
I am not certain how this ministry will look at this point, just waiting on God to make the path straight and clear. I am excited about the possible opportunity to attend this conference and sharpen my speaking skills and connect with others who have the same calling. Hoping to see everyone at She Speaks, but trusting my Jesus for the right timing.

Many Thanks to everyone who is making a scholarship even possible! Learning that God has called me to speak has been a gradual process. I was not raised in the faith. Rather I've been in some of the darkest places. Places only a loving Father like our Lord would dare go and find me. He has time and again made a way where there was not one.

The first time I spoke publically was to a very small group and the feed back was great, however, I found myself so ill-equipped. I long to be instructed. I just need some Titus women to show me the way.

The thought of being around women that can help me direct the gifting God has given me is so very exciting. Further more the thought of being equipped to rattle the gates of hell and see others set free by the power of the testimony He has made me free by,....well that just lites my fire. If that don't well, my wood may just be wet! =]

Thank you so much a for a chance!

Lately I have been listening to an inspirational CD about living your life! They asked us to recall what we played with as a child. Easy, I was a teacher...loved the papers, pens and helping. I still love the papers, pens and helping, even though I never made it to be a teacher.

thank you for this opportunity to try and win a scholorship to the P31 conference. This chance gives me hope, as I do not have the financial resources to attend the conference, yet am feeling the nudge from God get stronger.

Psalm 84:12
O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, what joy for those who trust in you.

Thanks for that powerful exhortation Wendy!

Attending She Speaks has been in my heart since my youngest (now 4) was a baby. As a ministry family on the other side of the country, actually getting there has always been out of reach. Even moreso this year as we have no regular source of income (aside from God’s gracious and unexpected provision).

I've been hearing whispers about speaking and want to confirm if it's His voice. I've always been a reluctant speaker (it's not the delivery that I have trouble with, but the responsibility). I don't know whether this is to be my year for She Speaks or not, but I do know that if it is, it would take a miracle of this sort to make it possible.

I sometimes feel like Gideon putting out my fleece, “If I get a scholarship, I’ll take it as confirmation that I’m meant to go.” God has done this in the past when I followed His call to writing. Now the question is whether it’s time to be more intentional about speaking the messages He’s given me.

I’m so glad to know we have a sovereign God who paves the way down these paths that often seem like a dream that He intends to turn into reality. Maybe this year…

Thank you for this opportunity. Blessings on all who enter and seek His plan for their ministry.

I am a teenager and have a passion for sharing God with others, especially those of my generation. I want to make a difference and feel God is calling me to speak and write about all He has taught me and how He has changed my life. Through my mom's cancer journey, I have gotten to know Him better and have learned to trust Him more. As believers we should have the skills to be the best in presenting our message to others. It would mean so much to me to learn how to better communicate. I don't believe God wants me to wait until I'm an adult to minister to others. I am praying for His provision for me to attend this conference if it is what He wants for me this year. Thank you for the opportunity to apply:-)

With great excitement, I read about the She Speaks conference scholarship opportunity. I hadn’t quite made up my mind to blog my entry – quite possibly because I tremble at the thought of speaking to adults - , but was praying about the chance to do so. When the time came for my children and I to begin our homeschooling day, I opened our kids’ Bible to the lesson for today, and realized I would be reading to them from Proverbs 31. I chuckled to myself, then made plans to enter the scholarship give-away. Thanks for your ministry.

A little over a year ago, I attended a writing intensive led by Cec Murphey. In a short amount of time, I realized I was being instructed by a very gifted writer (and speaker), one who cared passionately for those desiring to impart God’s words to others. I pray that the one chosen to receive this generous scholarship will glorify God, bless other women incredibly, and put a smile on Cec Murphey’s face! I would be delighted to attend the She Speaks conference to learn how to do just that!

My passion is Speaking. Imparting wisdom, knowledge and power to those in the audience as the Holy Spirit directs my path. Speaking to women; encouraging them; letting them know that there is someone out there that gets what they are going through, that cares and is there for them is the call on my life. I am a survivor of this world we live in. I have survived sexual abuse, domestic violence, self-loathing, hatred and the desire to end it all until I found God. Truly found Him. Let him in my life and embraced the love that He so freely gives me. I am at a point in my life where I yearn with all my heart to take all that I have learned and impart it into others. I want to laugh with them; cry with them; and grow with them as they embark on a deeper, closer relationship with Him. Being able to attend She Speaks! will get me one step closer to the dream.

She Speaks

Wow, it is amazing to see how God is working in and through the hearts of so many women He is calling to speak.

God saved my life from the hands of a very violent and abusive marriage. I was saved and called into His leadership army within the same year. He spoke to my heart saying “all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose” Romans 8:28. Even though I knew this truth, I still felt as though I was in the “March of The Unqualified and the Unworthy”. Over the years He has reminded me that Moses and countless others formed His leadership army then and the call is no different now. For as He calls thus He equips…God spoke to my heart and said you are unconditionally loved, emotionally healed, and made whole. Remember my daughter there is not an affliction beyond My conviction. Your responsibility is to be 4 real to be healed.

I began serving with a local domestic violence shelter teaching cooking classes and sharing my testimony. I served within this organization for eight years. God expanded my territory and I served on a local governance board that supports domestic violence initiatives. At my former home church I served in the health care ministry where I was asked to speak/share my testimony at several events. God expanded my territory again and I worked and shared my testimony to survivors of violence in Celebrate Recovery.

In 2008 God called me to write devotion about my life experiences on this journey with Him. He spoke to my heart sweetly, that the devotions would become topics/platforms for my speaking ministry. In 2009, God created two open-door opportunities for me to speak. One was at a local college where five women who are walking with Christ shared their personal testimonies of surviving violence and God’s calling on their lives. The other opportunity came from a dear friend who was led a women’s ministry at her church. With God’s leading she purchased my ticket and paid me a nominal fee. I spoke at her women’s conference and the topic was Unconditionally Loved, Emotionally Healed, and Made Whole.

It has been a year since I last spoke. I have continued to write and develop the speaking platforms for which God is directing me. I am follower of your ministry and have prayed for three years to attend your conference. Finances have prevented me. I realize that God will complete His plan in His timing. This opportunity for Proverbs 31 She Speaks conference is God’s open-door opportunity to expand my territory once again. To allow me to be in the company of women that are called to speak, write, and teach His word and increase His Kingdom for His glory.

Words matter because people matter more. God called me to the ministry of writing long ago. But as I’ve grown in Him, He’s helped me to view my words as a vehicle to connect people with the One who loves them more than they can imagine. And I believe He intends to use both my written and my spoken words to accomplish His purposes.

As He’s grown my writing, He’s expanded my speaking opportunities. That’s why I began to pray about attending She Speaks. My husband, like many others, has faced the heartbreak of job loss this year. As important as the conference is, family obligations come first. A scholarship would allow me to attend.

I know the One who calls me to speak and to write is faithful. I’ll trust Him to meet the needs of all who enter. Thanks for offering She Speaks along with the scholarship opportunities. And because both words and people matter, I’m grateful.

I believe that God is my Father and that He has always been with me, protecting me and guiding me through the deepest, darkest and most despairing circumstances in my life. Sadly to say, it has been during these most vulnerable times in my life that I fell away from God. But being God, He was always there and found a way to bring me back into His grace. I do not know where God is leading me or what His plan is for my life, however, I do believe that God has been actively encouraging me to dig deeper into His Word for His purpose in my life. I do not know if I have the abilities, knowledge, skills, characteristics or work experiences to be selected for the "She Speaks Scholarship." But I do know that God is my Father and that I love Him with all of my heart. Perhaps some of my life stories, actions and outcomes, might help someone else to find their way back to God. It would be the greatest honor of my life to be selected to attend the "She Speaks" conference and training and allowed to study and grow among such a dynamic group of Godly women.
God bless each of us.
Take care,

"What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off." (Matthew 18:12-13 NIV)

As a breast cancer survivor at the age of 35 with 2 small children, I felt God calling me. I have been invited to speak at large events about my experience. Never having an opportunity to attend a conference like She Speaks, I told the Lord that the Holy Spirit will have to speak through me or provide me with the gumption.
Thank you for this opportunity.

When I first became aware of Proverbs 31 ministries and the She Speaks conference a few months ago, I figured that given our financial situation, attending was a long shot. At this point, it would take a miracle, but that's alright - the fact that I've been speaking for the past four years is a miracle, too! When I give my testimony for Christian Women's groups, I title it "Leaving the Safety and Security of Your Shell." It seems appropriate to stick my head out and see if God might open the door for me to attend. This would be my first opportunity to meet, network and learn from other speakers and I know that becoming part of this community would move me forward into His purposes!

She Speaks would help me learn to share better how God is refining me in the fire & learn what to do next with this passion that is burning in me.

Wendy, THANK GOD He is the great I AM, because I definitely am the "little I AM NOT!"
I'm stepping out on faith by leaving a comment, but I want to do what God tells me to do. I have wanted to attend SheSpeaks for several years now, but have talked myself out of the opportunity every single year. This year, God provided a major healing of a brain tumor for my son (7yr journey) and I told the Lord when this whole ordeal started that I would shout from the rooftops at everything He allowed and did. I have done that within our "comfort zone" circle, but after he completely HEALED my son 2 months ago, I have felt the Holy Spirit telling me I should share Jordan's journey with woman across the country. He did NOT heal Jordan just for me and my family, but also for others. He provided a modern miracle for my son and demonstrated that He is still in the healing business, but most of all that we should trust Him with our lives, our decisions, our thoughts, our husband and our families. Throughout this ordeal, I have learned to TRUST HIM, just as he says in Proverbs 3:5,6 - - Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not to thine own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and will direct your paths.

Thank you,

I have never attended a She Speaks conference but would love to go! I hold with an open hand any "calling" God may fulfill for me to have more opportunities to speak.

Teaching and challenging women to deeper, more significant living is really enjoyable for me, and I feel His pleasure when He can use me in that role. I also know it is a big and humbling responsibility, so I do not take it lightly.
