Good morning Ladies! Phew - that was a lot today to read! I have to come back later to listen to the vlog and really process everything... I just wanted to put out a prayer request for my dad, Fred, today. He is having the catheterization (sp?) done today to determine if he needs just a stint or heart surgery. I'd appreciate any prayers for him. Thank you all!

It struck me today that after living under Jerehoboam (sp) for so long, then having Nadab - who grew up under J - and Baasha, the people of Israel must feel very distant from the way that things are suppoesd to be done. Didn't we read yesterday that the faithful moved out? Are there any of God's faithful people left in this part of Israel, anybody who remembers the commands and decrees and who can follow them? It makes me sad to think about such a large number of God's people who have fallen by the wayside because they didn't care enough to stand up for what is right. "But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!" Rev. 3:15-17 I don't want to be lukewarm for God - I want to follow Him and be used by Him! Who am I allowing to lead me in the wrong way? What is slowly edging out my focus on Him? I want some blinders put on today!
I wonder exactly how this break in obedience has affected the Middle East today?
Why did the old man lie to the prophet? What did he think that he had to gain?
I have to share this quick ... I'm a stay at home mom right now, except for keeping the firemuff a few days each week, and we have to be very careful with our money. We live close to Durham, where there are so many cultural opportunities for our kids, and I had hoped we'd be able to find ways to expose our kids to some of these things. God has so been taking care of that! I've won tickets to all sorts of things - Sesame Live! included, as well as a Casting Crowns concert, Michael W. Smith concert, etc - it's been great. Well, last night we went to see the Durham Bulls baseball team play b/c my husband's dad had never been and wanted to go with our kids. Tuesday is the 2-for-1 night when you take a Kraft cheese wrapper, so we were armed with our 'coupons' and Dave was waiting in line when this young couple walked up to us and offered us 5 tickets for free. Said they had too many and didn't need them. Turned out he is a chaplain student at Duke and got them for free at work and was just sharing. The weather was cool and gorgeous, very rare for NC in June, and it was a fabulous night at the ballpark. My 3yo son even got a ball thrown by a player after the game! He sure is taking care of us! :-D
Ignoring any part of God’s Word or adding to it sin – Satan is waiting to pounce, and ever so quietly, he influences those to become tolerant of what is evil. Simply, by neglecting God’s Word, one does not know the difference between truth, and the lie of the enemy. History continues to repeat itself today, - there’s a small and faithful group clinging to God. We have to be ever so careful, like you said, Amy, that nothing “slowly edges out our focus on Him.” The Word does that – as we obediently read, the Spirit will guide us. Lord, poke us and investigate us, let us know when we are ever so slightly, getting ready to go to the right or to the left. Keep us on the straight and narrow path!
“The LORD will stay with you as long as you stay with him! Whenever you seek him, you will find him” (2 Chron. 15:2).
Daily, we wake up and the enemy is prowling, looming in the distance waiting to attack. He’s smart – he will use whatever tactic he can. It’s a day-by-day choice: “Lord, today I’m waking up and seeking you with all of my heart and soul (12) “earnestly I’m seeking You” (15).

Wendy, Amy, Lori, loved your thoughts already this morning. I have been trying to keep up with the kings and who they are ruling over as well. I think this year I am understanding it alot better. One reason I think I am doing this is because I am taking the time to read our reading in the afternoon when I am good and awake. All last year I did it right before I went to sleep and well, it just did not sink in when I was tired. I did not keep a journal last year either which I am doing this year and am going to have to get a new notebook when I go shopping this weekend for groceries. I am thinking I am going to need one for each half of the year :)
Amy, praising with you sister on the way God is blessing your faithfulness. I loved reading and sharing in your story this morning! The finance stuff is an area I am really working on right now that I pray about daily.
For today's reading I did alot of notes just on the history part and made a time line like Wendy said. I did take the time to read Courson's commentaries on the reading as well. I loved what he said about 2 Chronicles 14:5-7 and want to share that with you all today.
"Asa also removed the pagen shrines, as well as the incense altars from every one of Judah's towns. So Asa's kingdom enjoyed a period of peace. During those peaceful years, he was able to build up the fortified towns throughout Judah. No one tried to make war against him at this time for the LORD was giving him rest from his enemies."
During the time of rest, Asa didn't kick back. He used the time of rest to prepare for future battles. And I believe his example is invaluable to us. If your life is going smoothly, praise the Lord and enjoy it, but prepare for the battles that are sure to come your way. If you're kicking back and watching TV in the time of peace, watch out because you don't know what tomorrow holds. And when the trial or difficulty confronts you, it will be too late to build your cities then. It will be too late to arm the soldiers them. When the attack comes, you'll kick yourself and say, "Why didn't I prepare when I had the opportunity? I didn't study and pray and meditate like I knew I should have, and now I'm sadly defeated."
Asa is remembered as a godly man because he was wise enough to use the time of peace for a time of preparation.

My to-do: Prepare in times of less difficulty so when the battles do come I will be ready. Lean on God each and every single day in good times and in bad. This will make the painful times easier because I have that basis of faith and my life has been being built on the Rock and not on sinking sand.

I sat in the cool breezes last night reading the Word. I want to be like Asa in 2Chron.15:17-Asa's heart remained completely faithful throughout his life. I pray for my family to be faithful, too.
The "Rose Book of Bible and Christian History Time Lines" is a wonderful way to keep up with all the kings of Is., world rulers, and events.(It is a bit pricey, but I've used it for years in teaching.)
Tomorrow is my b'day. June is also when I found spiritual rebirth.
I told friends it was 40 and 56, guess which is which.:)

I wondered in today's reading, why the prophet who predicted the altar splitting (early in the reading) was told to return to Judah by a different route. Was it for his safety? Would the king send out soldiers to kill him?
Also in 2 Chronicles 15 where it talked abou the many from Israel who moved to Judah during Asa's reign cuz they saw the Lord was with him; made me think of God as a magnet; He attracts those who desire Him. It's like I witness in today's churches...the strong believers lots of times flock together and I am seeing more and more "alive" churches and in the wake of people's departures, alot of "dead" churches. It was the same back then.

Wendy: That was great advice on putting the kings in order. Wendy you are appreciated more than you know. When sitting outside are you sitting on your Mother’s Day chair? That looked so welcoming to Me. The Man of God I picked up to today.
Man of God:
His role….no name mentioned….He was called “Man of God“…. I counted it 20 times. This story was new to me. I pondered quite a bit about Him and the role he played in this life.
Also focused on:

In judgment, God permitted king Shishak of Egypt to raid the city and carry off some of the Temple treasures. But instead of seeing that event for what it was….a judgment from God Because of their sin…he merely made an “adjustment” by making substitute shields for Temple use.
Both ruler and nation were deeply tied into very serious sins. Unwilling to change, they keeping to their accustomed patterns of living.
Perhaps…..look at some who rule over us today in OUR society. How could they get so bad? Our Country…. taking a inward look…..examine my own life. Do our rulers perhaps reflect us, as they did in Judah at this time?
A ruler…..Are they a reflection of a society/nation that they serve?

Wendy, I think it was Dr. J. Vernon McGee who gave this tip on all the kings. There are no good kings in the Northern Tribe (no - No is how I remember it) and a few (5, I think) in the Southern ones.
Brandee, that was a good one on Courson - always be prepared. Look what happened to David when he kicked back.
Amy, Praise God for the opportunities He is giving your family. He is honoring your sacrifice. I keep forgetting to mention that we saw Sesame Street Live when my older son was 3 years old. That was 15 years ago! Oh regarding your question, I read last night that the motivation of the old prophet could either be 1) his desire to have fellowship with a fellow prophet because of the shortage of it. Or 2) he is jealous of the younger man of God who hears from the Lord while he does not anymore. (Paraphrasing Jon Courson)
My nugget is actually related to the the man of God and the old prophet. It is from the same commentary:
"What in the world is this story about? In Galatians 1 Paul says, "If we or an angel from heaven preach unto you any other gospel, let that angel be accursed." I don't care who comes to you and says, "An angel spoke to me or a vision has been given to me, " if that angel or vision is in contradiction to the Word of God, reject it. If not, you will find yourself being torn up by the lion whom Peter identifies as Satan (1 Peter 5:8)
"Stick with the Word, gang, and you'll be safe. If you deviate from it, you're lion bait. Study the Word. Hunger and desire to know the Word of God. Be committed to it. My prayer is that you might know it from cover to cover lest any mixed up prophet says, "The Lord told me to tell you" and you find yourself being ripped up. May God give you a heart for it and the ability to carry out its instructions, not half-heartedly like Solomon but wholeheartedly and fervently like David."

Kate, I am underlining Fred in my prayerwork, praying for his doctors as well, and the very best outcome for him.
Thank you Wendy for your words about needing to make God our own. This was so true for me. The God of my parents is the same God, but now my relationship with Him is SO different from theirs.
Even though faith was taught by strong believers in my youth, it couldn't be MY faith without an active desire to seek Him. Faith can be planted, but if we are not willing to claim it and allow it to take root in our hearts, it only remains an ideal.
Some of us who grew up in the religion of our parents can be discouraged and disillusioned. But our own personal quest to seek a true relationship with God is what brings us to full maturity in faith. We are given the tools (however rigid they may be!), and we can find new tools (like this study), but we have to do our own work! Often it is a crisis in our lives that initiates the quest, or an emptiness or disillusionment, or it is the influence of Godly people who inspire us. You friends have blessed me in ways you will never know!
My Grandma Toohey was a wonderful example of faith, but I don't say all the same prayers she did! As a child of God, I am now walking with the Lord on my own path. I still embrace the religion of my youth, but I have a mature and renewed perspective of it. My church hasn't changed, but MY vision has changed! My eyes are opened to appreciate the beauty and the wonders of the Lord in all of it! And I am truly blessed! Thank you Wendy and all of you for enriching my journey!

Thank you G&P the scriptures you quoted. These are the ones I need to give to my brother. So many are advising him,as he struggles with which way to go. I gave him today's scripture 1Kings 13:1-34. That even if it is an old prophet advising him, he still needs to bring all advise before the Lord & obey where He shows him, not us lowly humans.

Jen Ren, that is a long reading today, and I did not have time to get to it this morning. I was kinda "off" getting ready for school, and I was playing "Be Still My Soul" and I got a strong feeling that I needed to go to the bookshelf where I have several new books to read this summer. I picked up Beth Moore's "So Long, Insecurity" which Brandee and others talked about in April related to her simulcast. Anyway, I looked at the table of contents, felt that I was supposed to read the LAST chapter, and there I found this wonderful "maintenance" prayer, as Beth refers to it. I read it and loved it, and this morning I have had a wonderful peace and joy come over me. But I've been feeling all morning that there is someone OUT THERE in Wendy Land who really needs this prayer today, so here it is...

Hi girls,
Long time no post :) Wendy - I am convicted today of running off and doing my own thing and then yelping for help with the mess I have made.
I was recently away on vacation for a couple of weeks. And I just gave everything up. I didn't follow the vlog, open my bible, I said a prayer but I don't think I really listened for an answer. When I got back, I filled my days with catching up on all the mess that is left in the wake of vacation and kept putting off time with God.
I am tired, sore and just plain cranky. Lord - I am sorry for not taking the time to spend with you. To thank you for all the blessings you sent during vacation and for putting myself and the "oh so important chores" before You. Thanks for the reminder today that there is nothing more important than You.

Wendy, as I listened to the Vlog I wrote the list of the Kings. In seeing how active God was during the times of these Kings I wonder if he is just as active now, but we just do not notice Him. I have been wondering for days if He is still involved in Isreal.

Susie, I've read 'The Shack' several times. It definitely makes one think! There are a few opinions in the book that you have to be careful about, though. I liked reading it and pulling out the 'hidden' scripture in it!
Someone earlier - I forget who, I'm sorry - asked about the way that God works in the Middle East today. If you haven't read "The Last Jihad" series by Joel C. Rosenberg, they're definitely worth reading. He's a Messianic Jew who has spent time in Israel and writes about how Biblical prophecy COULD be playing out today. It was fascinating reading. :-)

The day is almost over here and I've yet to finish the reading. I am feeling very sluggish right now, perhaps a combination of overcast skies and liquid sunshine are sapping my energy today. However, I shall prevail and get more reading done.
Wendy's To Do comment made me squirm in my chair. I haven't exercised much this week, and on account of that I am feeling very sluggish. I shouldn't go crying to God for help in the weightloss department if I'm not willing to do my part!

It was a long reading but I had trouble concentrating because the beginning of my day and most of the day was filled with depression and sadness. Thoughts of hurting myself cross my mind too often and this type of thought had my mind this morning while I tried to read. I started feeling better later this afternoon after I went to pick up my medication and took it.
Michelle thank you for the Beth Moore prayer. The book "So Long, Insecurity" is the book on CD Lori is sending me. I grew u very Insecure.
Ann in VA I also have Wendy Blight's book but I haven't started reading it yet. I heard her do a three day radio interview online about her life earlier this year and last December after I shared some about my life with her she recommended her book to me.
Susie I'm also in the process of reading The Shack. I borrowed my dad's copy after he recommended it to me and I scanned it into my computer in order to read it. I found out it's on CD and may buy it. It's funny because yesterday I was going to recommend this book.

Dear sweet friends,
I just wanted to respond to the reader who asked if anyone had read The Shack. Some time ago some of my friends read the book and loved it. A few said it changed their life. Most said that they didn't put God in a box anymore. After hearing bits and pieces of the book, I chose not to read it. One morning while getting ready for church, I heard a sermon by Michael Youssef entitled The Shack Uncovered. I ordered the cd and was greatly troubled by what I heard. He listed 13 heresies he discovered while reading the book, and all of them were very biblical. I know I am treading on a slippery slope here because I know so many who love the book and I've even heard pastors use the book in sermons. My challenge is this- google Michael Youssef and then The Shack
Uncovered and read his sermon or listen to it online and ask the Holy Spirit for discernment.

I bought that commentary-type book about 'The Shack' for my dad because he was helping to lead a Bible study about it. There's lots of scripture in the book but it's all in the context of conversation, so if you don't know your Bible you can easily miss it. There are several statements made that are incorrect/highly controversial, and a friend who's a pastor's wife will only recommend this book to those well versed in the Bible. It will definitely make you think - but be sure that you're reading it carefully and sorting out the Truth from the opinion as you read! (Maybe kinda like we had to do with Ecc, almost - sort out Solomon's opinion from the real Truth).
Wow. There has been so much to read! I've been at it for an hour and a half...btwn finally being able to watch the video from home, read comments, and the reading the Word, I'm only half way through today's reading! But I have learned so much! Wendy. Your shared thoughts about doing things "my way" does offer me conviction. Just this past Sat. I felt like the Lord was telling me to give up something. Again Sunday He brought a similar conviction through a different message. I thought, I will, but later. Then again today through you and through someone else the Lord spoke to me. God forgive me for not doing it Him way in the time frame that He wants me to do it! Lord help me to follow Your voice and call the first time. Thank You for not giving up on me. Wow! I finally finished today's readings. I'm thankful that I have a diagram in my NIV Study Bible which lists the kings, if they ruled over Judah or Israel, length of reign, etc. I referred to it many times just on today's readings alone.
I'm learning the history from these Scriptures for the first time and find it interesting and educational.
About The Shack. Please remember it is fiction. I sat through a book club meeting at my church and toward the end it became obvious that some in the group didn't realize it was fiction.
Yet it also opened up conversations around the country (maybe world?)about our Triune God and I don't condemn that at all.
And may I say that I'm glad we have a shorter list of readings tomorrow. Good night all! :)

I have to share with y'all where I had my quiet time and reading of His Word this morning! Never have I done this! Hubby and the boys went parasailing, and I was told that I could see the boat and sail way over the ocean from the Garden City pier. i COULD see them parasailing!It was WAY far away, but I had comfort in knowing that everyone was fine. With this peace, I got my Bible and a beach towel and sat under the pier and prayed and studied. Amazing! This is the most peace I have had all week. I loved every minute of it.
