"There are six things the LORD hates, no seven things He detests."
Proverbs 6:16
Proverbs 6:16
May Take Aways
Something Old:
Proverbs 5:12
"If only..." Thank you God for grace so that I don't have to dwell in the "if onlys" of my life. Help me to accept discipline and teaching.
Be careful how I use my words and present myself in the company of men.
Something New:
Proverbs 6:20-22
These scripture served as great reminder of Deuteronomy 6.
Something to Do:
Do the opposite of what the Lord hates. Post these things with there opposites on my refrigerator.

Dear Jacque,
Happy Anniversary! I am so thankful for your participation in this group; your wisdom, your openness, your prayers, and now the example you can be for all of us to persevere in our marriages (those of us who are married) and to thank God for the gift he has given us!
Dear Rhonda, thank you for the love letter from God; beautiful words! I want to send it to my husband and my daughters.
Wendy Proverbs 6:16-19 also intrigued me and I think your idea to post the list and the antonyms is a great idea.
Two other instructions also stood out for me; proverbs 5:21-22a
For the Lord sees clearly what a man does,
examining every path he takes.
An evil man is held captive by his own sins;
and Proverbs 7:1-4
Follow my advice, my son;
always treasure my commands.
Obey my commands and live!
Guard my instructions as you guard your own eyes.[f]
Tie them on your fingers as a reminder.
Write them deep within your heart.
Love wisdom like a sister;
make insight a beloved member of your family.
If only I would do that always. I recently did not make wisdom and insight my sisters. I acted out of frustration and anger and made a bit of a mess at work. I was convicted yesterday when the outcome of my actions came to light and I felt very heavy hearted (For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Psalm 32:4). I needed to make it right. I needed to ask for forgiveness even though I was still feeling my position on the issue at the heart of the matter was right (but that would be my haughty eyes talking). And I needed to make restitution. It is going to take awhile for it all to sort out,and for me to feel right with God, but I pray that I am being obedient in this situation; that I am now seeking wisdom and insight, as well as patience, gentleness, humility, goodness, the other fruits of the spirit.
Have a wonderful holiday weekend y'all!
Karen, Basel
Wendy, I usually play your video again when I drift off to sleep. But not this time. I'm afraid I'll have nightmares involving fishing tackle. Oh.my.gosh. poor Maxie. My son & I both cringed when we heard your story of the first time it happened. I hope everyone is well now.
I haven't finished reading the commentaries yet so I will do that tomorrow. May I ask that you pray for a very special friend of mine. Her name is Anna and we belong to the same women's group. She is a 16 year breast cancer survivor. Wonderful woman and is on fire for the Lord. They found what may be a tumor in the same site. Please pray for her. For courage as she faces the unknown. She shared how God was with her the whole day leading to the discovery. God made His presence known. Prayers for her peace of mind please. That she be immune to spiritual attack. She is ready to go through whatever God wants her to do.
Thank you.
Karen, I've had that similar experience where I had to humble myself and apologize eventhough I know I'm right. God is more concerned about us representing Him to those around us than our being right. It's so hard to do but a big relief when you follow through.
G & P - Praying for Anna this morning for all that you listed. I have 2 quick prayer requests today as well. 1) My dad, Fred, is having his stress test today as he's been having some tightness in his chest. His doctor told him he'd probably be admitted to the hospital. 2) One of my students, 10 year old Haley, is having hip surgery today. She walks with a crooked gait and this is corrective surgery - she'll be a full body cast for 6 weeks now. I wish you all could meet her - she is such a hard worker and faces academic challenges, but I have never seen this girl without a smile on her face. Thank you for your prayers - will come back later to listen to the vlog.

Good Morning Sisters,
Kristin, thank you so much for the advice on the video, that worked great this morning!
Last year I wrote down in my Bible notes from Wendy's teaching on Proverbs 6:16-19. Here are the opposites she talked about:
Haughty eyes-Be humble
Lying tongue- truthful
Hands that kill the innocent- love and nurture
A heart that plots evil- kindness
Feet that race to do wrong- race to do good
False witness that pours out lies- don't bear false witness, don't lie about others
Person who sows discord- sow harmony
My nugget goes back to what was talked about yesterday.
Proverbs 5:1-2 talks about wisdom again. If I pay attention to God and His wisdom then I will have and show discernment and it will come out in what I say. I had a situation just yesterday where I needed wisdom. I was being asked to do something I did not have peace about in my spirit. I stopped and prayed and gave it to God and He stepped right in and took over. He took control of the situation for me and what I felt in my spirit He was telling me was exactly His will. It was a huge GODStop for me. God answered immediately and my faith in Him grew in an amazing way yesterday. The whole situation is not working out how "I" would like it too, but as we are learning right now, "The LORD corrects those He loves" (Proverbs 3:12) and I know this is a lesson for me and for the rest of my family that we need to be drawn closer to Him.
Busy day here in our house. My son has awards day this morning then he is home for the summer. His school does a Kindergarten graduation program tonight which I am anticipating to be wonderful. The kids have been practicing the past two months to do this play. All the grandparents are coming up today to spend some time with us as well. Hope you all have a wonderful day!
Blessings,
Brandee, TN
Praying for Anna, Fred, and Haley!
I had a nightmare this morning just before 5:30 and ended up laying in bed and praying for everyone until my alarm went off (with a few snooze settings, I must admit).
I was waaaayyyyy far away from all of you this morning. I underlined those verses and thought about them, but the two that I focused on were different.
Prov. 5:23 "He [an evil man] will die for lack of self-control; he will be lost because of his great foolishness."
When I am undisciplined and lose control, then I am evil. I don't like to think of myself as evil, but there you have it. This has the power to kill me. Do I want to be that foolish? Will I give in to foolishness, or will I hold out for self-control?
This hit me in the area of food. I am doing much, much better than I was before Lent, but I still have those chocolate-craving episodes and sometimes give in a bit. While I've lost weight and my husband continues to do so, our loss of control could literally kill us. Too many Hershey kisses could be my physical undoing - as well as build a distance between God and me. I'd rather have Jesus near me than a whole mountain of chocolate - although my tummy still sometimes questions that. Gotta work on this. I think, along with Wendy's fridge verses, that I'm going to put this one on the window above my kitchen sink. I need this reminder.
I'm planning to go hiking this morning with the kids and some friends at a nearby lake. This will work out perfectly - after today's reading, I need the opportunity to move! :-)
Have a great weekend!
Good morning GIG's and Happy Friday,
I overslept - haven't done reading or vlog, but have skimmed comments and am sending up prayers for Anna, Haley and Fred. Also,HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Jacque! What a marvelous accomplishment. I also want to say, Jacque, that you stop often and pour out wisdom and caring and godly advice to us here, and I thank you so much. You do so much more than you seem to think you do!! God works mightily through you.
Have a blessed day, all, and I pray that "the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and our minds, in Jesus Christ, Amen.
Peace and Gratitude,
Michelle in New England
Happy Friday GIG!
I pray for God's Wisdom more and more; in and thru everything.
Thank you all for your words; I continue to pray for this group; have a blessed Memorial Day everyone!
Busy at work today...so I gotta fling!
Praise Him
Morgen
Wendy,
Thanks so much for your bible study online. I appreciate your idea to write down the opposites of what God hates to what God loves...
I would like to read thru the Bible and this seems like an interesting way to do it.
Pray for me that I can act on what I read. Head knowledge is great but living it out is always the challenge.
I look forward to the rest of the study this year.
Michele
Good morning Ladies ~
Thanks Brandee for listing the opposites to what Wendy talked about this morning.
I had to ask myself some questions this morning as I read some of these verses. Prov 5:18 - Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you. Am I a fountain of blessing to my husband? Lord, give me wisdom to build my husband up with words of life.
Prov 6:16-19 - Six things the Lord hates. Do I have haughty eyes, a heart that plots evil? Continue to investigate my life Lord, reveal to me any areas of unconfessed sin. My hearts desire is to walk in obedience to you.
Thoughts for me to ponder this day.
Have a great weekend everyone,
Kris
Happy Friday, Dear Friends!
Rhonda, Sister, when you pop in you make up for missed posts! The letter you shared yesterday, was given to me by a special, past Bible Study facilitator. She was a grandma, that richly blessed my class with her wisdom and life-stories. She always had me on the edge of my seat, intrigued by her experiences, her GodSTOP moments, and her thirst for the Lord. From our eyes she was the teacher; but, from her eyes she remained a humble and seeking student, daily, continuing to dig in God’s Word. A true ‘word-nerd!’ smile. What a role-model, she was to me. Very humbly, she’d teach our group - week after week, the love in her heart drew all of us so close to her. The last day she passed this letter out to each one of us. I love including the lines in prayers and I read it over, daily, to the point it’s engrained in me. More and more, I use scriptures from all translations in my prayers. I, so badly, want to have His Word on my heart, on my tongue, coming out. I thought of her today as I read the antonym (thank you, Brandee!) of discord: harmony. That is my desire, to create harmony in my family. I want my faith passed down to my whole clan - every single one of them. I want my family to know “his glorious miracles” (Psalm 78:7), “glorious deeds of the LORD” (vs 4), to truly know my “God of great wonders!” (Psalm 77:14). I want my descendents to love the Lord with all of their hearts, so much, that they “cannot stop thinking about [His] mighty works” (12).
Dear family of Believers - what an awesome God we share! Thank you sisters for richly blessing me, day after day. Wendy, thank you for the time you give up, in order to teach us. May God richly bless you and your family this long weekend!
Anticipating His goodness all around me today, Lori
Happy Memorial Day Weekend Everybody….
Wendy …..thanks much! Dogs we have one too…..Yhea just got to love em! The other day she was out my our pond just a barking away. I went out to see what was out there and here it was the fish. She couldn’t get any. The fish were looking to her to get some food. They come right up to you…..but were quick enough to get away when she tried to get one.
My verse today same as your coming from Proverbs 6: 16-19, There are six things the LORD hates-(I noticed LORD was all capitalized) no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family.
In the New American Bible: The footnotes for verses 1: 16-19 says this: The seven vices symbolized for the most part by bodily organs are pride, lying, murder, intrigue, readiness to do evil, false witness, and the stirring up of discord.
Yes,…..Something I also need to do is post these on the frig. Pride being one of my biggest to remember.
Jacque Happy belated 38th anniversary. Thanks for the great role model….and all of your wisdom.
G&P...You made me chuckle...your comment about Max....also will be praying for Anna.
Kate...prayers for you Dad (Fred) and for 10 year old Haley.
Lori...You have a senior this year. Will be coming to you for advice next year. Son #1 will be one next fall. Also thanks so much for your dedication to this group...You are an awesome prayer warrior. You bless me richly alway.
Michelle...Your in my prayers. I would be so over-whelmed. I'm feeling it already about the position I will be in next year. (sons graduation). Thanks also for your words of wisdom.
This weekend for me: My Dad ordered 30 tickets to go to a Detroit Tiger ball-game for today. He is a big Tiger Fan…loves his baseball so coming from a big family we are getting a bus and all are going aboard to go to the game. (for our Dad). Out of 11 of us 7 are going and lots of grandchildren also. I am going to need His strength for tomorrow….cause won’t be getting home til 1 in the morning and than hubby asked if I would take a load in a separate truck (following him) in his truck tomorrow …a 9hr trip. Yes I was given the talents to drive a 18 wheeler also so have to use them. We were doing this before our gifts came along (Our children).Yes I am going to get behind a few days on the reading will catch up on Sunday the Lords day.
You All have a great weekend….I will be SAPing for all whom gave us this country.
Hotdogs, Bratwurst, Hamburgers….Is there anything I forgot?
Rember…
*Thanksgiving is a day where we pause to give thanks for the things we have.
*Memorial Day is a day when we pause to give thanks to the people who fought for the things we have.

I love being able to read God's Word, isn't that such a blessing. We can pray - talk to our LORD and hear Him anytime we want. that alone makes me lift up my hands to praise Him.
The Proverbs thrill my soul. For some reason I am enjoying them more this reading than any before. Maybe because last week end my grandaughter (12 years old) and I went through the Passport to Purity. It is put out by Dennis Rainey, Family Life, and is so good. This week end I want to share with her these chapters from Proverbs. God is so good to give them to me right at this time.
the 7 things He detests, cover it all, eyes, tongue, hands, heart, feet, our witness, and our intent.
I also want the antonyms posted in my home. Just like the Israelites keep God's word close to their bodies.
Ok GIGs, I still am having trouble posting. I just posted and didn't sign my name.
Donna - TX
Thank you, dear friends for your prayers for Anna. Kate, I'm praying for your Dad and for sweet Haley.
Rhonda, travel mercies for all the traveling you will be doing this weekend. A big rig? Wow.
Teeny, I was thinking of you this morning. We have not heard from you. How are you doing? Are you still staying with your son?
Brandee, thanks for researching the antonyms for us.
Amy, I hear you on the chocolate obsession. Been there, girl. But try this one - got this from Lori who heard it from Beth Moore. Make exercise be it walking or running a time of worship. Not solely for the purpose of losing weight - or something to that effect. (Sorry, I didn't get enough sleep so my synapses are not connecting this morning. I'm sure Lori can explain it better.)
Re the things the LORD hates, Jon Courson says, "All of these things are acts and declarations of independence. All of these say, 'I'm going to solve that problem. I can spin the truth. I can take care of it with my clever speech, killer instinct, my running here, my manipulating there.' God hates this kind of thinking because He wants us to be totally dependent upon Him. 'If you're dependent upon Me,'He says, 'I'll see you through. Don't try to make it happen in your own energy. Trust in Me. Look to Me. Lean on Me. I hate pride because I know what it will do to you. It will limit what I could give to you, work through you and do for you.'" (p. 193, Jon Courson's Application Commentary Old Testament Vol. 2)
Good Morning...
Wendy,
I, too, cringed as you were telling your Maxi story...my darlin' sons have had hooks in their hands and other parts of their body before...glad your husband was close...
As I was thinking of the 6, no 7 things the LORD hates and the opposites...I thought of the Fruit of the Spirit...Gal 5:22-26. They are pretty much the opposite of the things God hate...and we have them in us vs.25 "Since we live by the Spirit let us keep in step with the Spirit". If we keep in step with the Spirit we will not be doing the things God hates..
I have all your prayer requests and am praying...
Blessings and a wonderful day,
Sue
Thank you sweet friends for the good wishes! I emailed our 3 sons yesterday to invite them to come for a simple cook-out (they live 100 miles away) and "reminded" them of the great Master Plan, and if we hadn't gotten married, none of them would exist! Well, we got a wonderful surprise, when one of them showed up!
My daughters were here with kids, oldest is 9 and then 5 kiddos age 4 and under, so it was pretty wild. Not surprisingly, as they prepared to leave, one daughter's phone was missing. We spent an eternity looking for it, even in the dark with a flashlight outside. Each kid told us a different account... Funny you should bring up your "pond" story Rhonda! Guess where we found the Blackberry this morning? Sigh. Family circus is what we live! Time and experience teaches us to be very flexible-- so much for a romantic anniversary-- LOL!
I have just been soaking in all your insights today, and am still looking forward to reading, but I am behind because of the great cell phone search! Thank you all for contributing and giving me the boost to jump to it!
In my prayers-- Anna, Haley, Kate's father Fred, Rhonda's special family trip this weekend (you will probably have an anecdote or two! and I am in awe that you can drive a rig!), Brandee's little graduate!, thinking about Dixie and Teeny today, Wendy and all you faithful followers. You all bless me so much! Thank you for your devotion to this journey.
Jacque
Happy Friday afternoon GIGS! Wendy, bless your heart...or should I say Maxie's!! Glad Scott was nearby! We had a bird in our chimney that escaped by the flue(spelling?) and got into my fireplace on Tuesday! Thankfully, hubby was in town and came home to help me resuce this little bird!!! Mercy! It got in the house and was flying all over the place! In hindsight, it would have made a great you tube!!
GIGS, lifting up all of your prayer requests. Thank you for sharing them. Be safe while traveling this weekend.
Loved the idea of finding the antonyms of the negative words from things that God hates. I think that will be a family night activity! Brandee, I appreciate your sharing last year's wisdom with us.
Would appreciate your prayers tomorrow as my son and I race a trail run at a nearby mountain. Please pray that I stay upright, that no critters are on the trails, and that I finish! Thank you!! Trying to stay hydrated today!
Sending y'all hugs!
Susan
Hi, everyone,
I, too, have a dog story. We have a 1 year old Bichon, a boy...our first boy dog! He is such a boy! We live in a city but with a yard with a small pond. He walked into the pond! Needless to say he smells like the pond, his nice fur now so matted he will have to have his fur taken down to just about nothing! So curious.
Well, anyways I am trying to focus on the 6 no 7 things our Lord detests. I am going to see if I can use the anomaly listed in the blog to help my family.
I have 2 teens left at home who could use all the words of wisdom Solomon is giving out. In fact, for my 22 year old I am having him read these along with me. Lesson's he truly needs at this age.
I love the Proverbs as they can be so helpful in guiding our lives. No matter how many times I review these words I still find more I can do.
Great Memorial Day to everybody! And thanks to all of the military who serve or have served our country and us people.
I am working the entire weekend and after the holiday. I do have the actual holiday off.
Prayers for Anna, Fred, Haley to have everything turn out well. Keeping Angela in my heart!

Hi,
I'm praying for Anna, Fred, and Haley.
Lord, thank you for the sacrifices people have made so we could remain a free nation.
My father gave his leg in WWII when he stepped on a mine in France. I didn't realize that he was my hero until after his death in 1987. Tho he had some problems, he wore a wooden leg and made a living on the farm. Summer was hard because of the heat, but he never complained. How I miss him.
A buddy of dad's stepped in front of him in line one day and took the sniper's bullet of death. If it hadn't happened, my brother and I would not be here now. Is God good? I think of the sacrifice that young man's family made. (My grandma was back home praying, I'm sure, though I never met her.)
Gals, watch ourselves, so we don't take on the characteristics of the immoral woman in chapter 7:
*seductively dressed
*sly of heart
*brash, rebellious type
*never content to stay at home
*seductive talk that entices,
flatters, is pretty.
I've been in the workforce. Pride and temptation are lurking about.
I taught 1-2 grades for 15 yrs.
Stay in the Word and God will bless you. Have a wonderful 3 days.
Linda from Ark
Linda...Amazing stories about your Dad and his buddy...I will remember them especially this weekend...
