A word in due season, Wendy. It was one of those days that I inadvertently ended up taking a 1/2 hour nap before dinner and felt guilty that I did not finish my studies. I want to share Jon Courson's commentary on Psalm 127:1-2.
"With 50% of all 1st marriages failing, the family is under attack and Christians are not immune. Even if you're walking close to the Lord, you'll experience attack and assault upon your marriage. Why? Because satan knows that marriage is a picture of the love relationship between Jesus and His church. Therefore, if he can mar that picture, he will accomplish a great objective in his attempt to skew the picture people have of the Lord.
"What's the solution? The Lord must build the family. Anything else is in vain. You can get up early, you can stay up late, you can eat the bread of sorrow - wondering if your kids are going to turn out okay. But it's all in vain. Jesus reduced it to such incredible simplicity when He said, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and ultimately, all these other things will be added to you" (Matt 6:33). The best investment you can make as a couple or as a family is to spend time on your knees, together seeking the Lord. How easy it is for us to want to go to seminars and read books about how to have a healthy marriage 0 but we won't do the foundational thing, which is to seek the Lord together. It's a waste of time to cultivate communication skills if you're not seeking God together. It is pointless to establish a relationship built on fun, vacation or recreation if you're not seeking the Lord together." p. 156
Re kids Ps 127:3: "Years ago I thought the Lord would entrust me with kids that I might train and develop them. I have found that that Lord gave me kids that they might train and develop me. Having kids obliterates selfishness....Kids are one of the ways the Lord gives us to lose ourselves, to no longer live for our own ease, pleasures and pursuits. They are a rich heritage because they grow us up....Each child is different To raise the correctly, each child takes skill beyond our own ability. They drive us to our knees constantly." (p. 156, Jon Courson's Application Commentary Old Testament, Vol 2)
I typed all that up so I can read it over and over again. The timing of the reading and the vlog just makes me want to break out in praise to God.

Wendy, your "something to do" needs to be mine. Both literally and Spiritually.
Right now the tears are falling and my heart is so heavy with sadness and emotional pain because I miss my Spiritual mom who is a very important part of my life. I'm sure I'll see her sometime this year but I don't know when. Ok, maybe I'm being a little immature and dumb. Last night I nearly cried myself to sleep thinking about her and a picture I have of the two of us from when I was 13. I can't see anymore but that picture is so clear in my mind even though it was taken almost 28 years ago.
Lord, help me rest in your loving arms.
It's a blessing to hear that the cancer hasn't spread anywhere in Angela's body.
I may not be comment for the next several days. I'll be with my dad and on Friday we're going camping and canoeing until Sunday with my sister, bil, and my two nieces.
Maybe before I go to bed I'll go read a few devotions from the book I'm reading called God's Purpose For Every Woman.

Those that are weighed down, and weary. Those that are apart of an unpleasant condition, or situation, that saddens and discourages them; those that are depressed or hopeless have reason to be encouraged! God knows their hopeless situations. God knows their burdened environment. God knows the distress they are under. The helpless can be encouraged! How? Because The Word tells us that the oppressed are precious to Him!
As long as the sun shines, as long as the moon remains in the sky…Each sole is precious to Him. “Yes, forever!” Thank you, LORD, that each individual is precious to You.
WHAT a God we serve dear GIG. Thank you sweet Wendy, for printing out what you found. This is perfect to give to my mother who struggles with sleep issues.
My favorite verse to say before I go to bed is, "I will praise the LORD, who counsels me: even at night my heart instructs me" (Psalm 16:7).
Today, oh, we have a reason to be encouraged - God's Word is in us and each day it's spreading around more and more. Lord, fill us up with You today. Every single piece of us. Be everywhere. You are are everything.

There have been lots of things getting in the way of me and this study,but today the Lord gave me time to come and see & hear His words. I am so thankful for this and feel He is speaking directly to my heart today. Life has been so busy with my oldest son graduating this Sun. and his party is Sat., finding a college for him,track meets, pre-school visits with Claire...all have made me really tired lately,but I am refreshed today!
It is not by accident that I had the best sleep last night to wake up today and hear it was from God!

Michelle, sounds like you need to fill that tank with blessed sleep! Savor the highs and the lows of this time surrounding the wedding, because in a flash they will be precious memories! Keep in mind that those little things that you think “go wrong” are the things you will laugh about for years…. Joy isn’t in the perfection!

Doesn’t that sound like a wonderful life? My husband and I often sit on our porch all evening just talking with a glass of wine or iced tea, and we feel such contentment in this simple circumstance. Our grapevines aren’t long enough to sit under yet, but I look forward to sitting under their shade and protection in a month or so. In the crazy life we lead, everyone should be able to have time to repose and be still, knowing our daily needs will be met. Resting in safety-- this is a blessing God gave to Solomon’s people and wants to give to us.
Wendy, I love your attention to the sleep verse. Have you ever noticed how you can get amazing ideas and solutions during sleep? If I pay attention to my “twilight sleep,” as I call it (half asleep, half awake), this is where I find my creativity and my answers. What a beautiful gift sleep is! Solomon’s wisdom must have certainly been strengthened by sweet sleep. And just the act of turning over your concerns to the Lord as you go to sleep always gets you there faster!

I've started the habit of doing the day's reading and journaling before I listen to Wendy's vlog. So I was happy to hear her talk about Psalm 127:2b, "- for he grants sleep to those he loves."
When my anxiety levels rise, I can't sleep through the night. When I finally turn the problem/issue over to God, I sleep well. I love this verse and it can serve to remind me that God loves me all the time and I can find my rest in Him.
Angela, I'm thanking God for your MRI results today! I am continuing to pray for you and your family that you feel God's presence, strength, love, and comfort as you move ahead through breast cancer. Amen!

I loved this mornings reading.. and it spoke to me. I am one who loves my sleep and I struggle with getting up earlier to have it instead of before I go to bed. So the promise of rest spoke to my heart and it just confirms as I have been praying that He wakes me up, and He has been faithful to wake me, I will be cared for :)
I got stuck on children are a gift. This is not new to me but being I want to be a Word Nerd as well, I looked it up.
Gift=nachalah means possession, property, inheritance, heritage, portion. I started thinking of how God chose these children of miine as my heritage and inheritance. They sure are and I am blessed. I just love the concept of them as a gift of God. Even on days that I want to pull my hair out

I read the night before, then when I wake up I listen to Wendy over my cup of coffee. I was very much trying to understand better the Psalm 127. I struggled with the very part that Wendy explained.
I have a much better understanding of this. My husband is able to retire, yet he anxiously works so we have extra money to retire on, to help our 2 youngest kids to become adults. (although, my Ryan at age 22 is struggling and I am praying over him).
I am hoping God intervenes for my son Ryan and heavily takes hold of his hand to guide him into his correct path.
Perhaps, we can just leave this up to God and Dave, my husband can retire without anxiousness.

Paola-hoping you are on the road to recovery.
Jennifer Renee--even if we cannot see or be with our loved ones, we are connected. Your spiritual mom is with you even if not physically. My favorite Psalm 92 where we can rest in God's arms/wings.

Karen, 1 Kings 4:23 jumped out at me - the 'grass-fed cattle' part. Why do we insist that chemicals and 'new' ways are better? Maybe our scientists should take a good, hard look at the way that people ate way back then ... I'm betting we could learn a lot if we cleaned out our food sources.
1 Kings 4:25 jumped out, too. In this time of great peace and contentment, each family had their own house and garden. They had a place of shelter and a fresh food source. What more could they ask for? I have that and more. What is there to be upset about?? My husband built raised beds for me this year and we've revamped our garden, and so far it's doing well. I'm hoping to can lots of tomato sauce and salsa, and different kinds of beans from the farmer's market. I've already frozen my strawberry jelly, and I'll do corn in July. We're on a mission to keep things as simple and fresh as we can, and we all love to watch God grow the garden. A house and a garden ... what more could we want??
Our other house has been rented! We can't sell it right now - have to wait on the market to improve a bit - but my husband is happy with the new tenant and has very little to do before he moves in. We've heard nothing from the old one, either, so maybe they've given up on their plan to sue! :-)

What jumped out at me in Ps 127 is that it's God who "builds a house", "protects a city" and "gives rest". He is the ONE who is does this, not us, so we CAN rest!

(P.S. Amy, we are growing our first garden this year and had our first harvest of green beans, for dinner. Yummy! We have about 25 tomato plants, and many other plants and herbs - I think we'll be able to feed all of our family, and neighborhood!! I call it a garden on steroids, hubby does nothing half-way:-)

Amy and Nancy, we are going to have a garden too for the first time as well!! I bought the squash plants about 3 weeks ago and they need a home fast!! Hubby is finally working on the raised bed! Now, if the dog doesn't jerk them out of the ground...!!!
I loved 1 Kings 4:33-34. Can you imagine simply sitting at Solomon's feet listening to him teach? It sort of foreshadows followers of Christ sitting at His feet listening to His teachings.
GIGS, those of you who fast, can you share with me some specifics? I have never done this, and I am teaching from Mark 9 this Sunday where the disciples cannot cast out a demon, and Jesus tells them it can only happen with fasting and prayer. I'm researching, but would love your insight!! Thank you so much!!
