I had to write in the margin of my Bible "when I go to California." I don't know about you all but I just needed to read Psalm 139 today for so many reasons. Did you read it aloud? Oh please do! It is His love letter to me and you. Have you ever said about someone, "I knew them when...?" He knew us when. Oh, these thoughts are too precious to attain, aren't they?
Have a wonderful weekend friends. I leave Cali at 12:05pm Sunday, after a layover in Dallas, touch the ground in Charlotte at 10:40pm. Then ready to drive the kiddos to school at 7:40am Monday. Can't wait to wake up to those sweet faces and that of my hubby!

Today I was blessed by Psalm 143. The entire Psalm spoke to me especially verses 1, 6-8.
My to do is verse 5. Think back at what God has done.
Amy and Grace and Peace I'm right there with you about the music. I haven't listened to secular music in twenty years. However, I do have to listen to it if I'm with a family member in the car. Three years ago my sister and I got in the car to go pick up my mom and grandmother to go on a trip to Lancaster, PA and my sister turned on the radio to a station she really liked. To her surprise and my excitement the radio station had changed over to a Gospel station. She doesn't like that type of music so she changed the station.

Allie, you're welcome. It's an honor to be part of God's miracle. We all know He can do it Himself without any help but He choose to enlist us. It is such a blessing.
Jennifer Renee, I'm listening to Chris Tomlin's Cd right now. I played "How Can I Keep from Singing" over and over again. Now he's singing Everlastng God. I love that one too. And my to-do is the same as yours, too. It builds our faith when we recount the ways He has come thru for us in the past. He will do so again today and in the future.
I love today's reading. Psalm 139 has been an early favorite of mine. I know the song "You Are Near" is based on that. That was one of my early favorites. I used to wonder why verses 19-22 were there. Seems so incongruous with the rest of the verses. Almost had to ask, "Where did that come from?" One of the bible studies I attended (Dr. Bill Creasy) said those verses reveal what is really in David's heart, thus verses 23-24 asking God to search his heart. Sometimes we deceive ourselves with what's really in our hearts. Scary and humbling at the same time. But God knows our hearts and He can clean them out if we let Him.
Psalm 140 also struck a nerve with me. I prayed that for my Dad. My sister and I have been trading text messages since this happened. She is very hurt by the whole thing and I sense bitterness & resentment creeping in. So I suggested that we should look for bible verses to send to each other instead of just 100% venting. She agreed that it would be more encouraging for both of us. So I sent her Psalm 140.

I just love Psalm 139. It is definitely one of my favorites. I remember the first time I read it and cried my eyes out realizing how much God loves each and every one of us and knows us intimately.
I think my favorite verse is:
All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
He knows our life before it even happens. what a wonderful thought to know that He is in control and not us. I can feel safe knowing that whatever happens, He is in control.

How very sweet it is to come here for fellowship in the morning, after reading God's word and praying. And sweeter still to see God working in all of us. Thank you, all, for sharing. Grace & Peace, Allie, and Jennifer Renee, I see Him working in you, dear sisters. You are each a fine example of Psalm 138:3 in today's reading. "As soon as I pray, you answer me: you encourage me by giving me strength." Each of you have faced real difficulties these past few days, but you have taken it to the Lord and asked for His help and peace, and you have asked your sisters in Christ for their prayers. Today we can see that the "peace of God, which transcends all understanding, {is guarding} your hearts and your minds" (Philippians 4:6). Be strong and hopeful, my sisters.
Troubles come our way, and the only place to go is to Him!
Lord, may we keep you front and center in our hearts and minds, that we may feel your peace, praise you name, and follow your purpose for us, whether it be tending to a sick child, working through all the glitches the world sends our way, or helping another gain a godly perspective. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Friends, I want to share a Praise with you. Through His grace, my soon-to-be-son-in-law will walk across the stage at his medical school commencement today, and become a doctor. My daughter flew down to be with him yesterday. In a few days this couple will drive from Florida to Tennessee to pass papers on their new home (God willing, as there is still paperwork to be successfully completed.) They will move his belongings into the house, then drive back to Massachusetts, arriving here on Sunday May 23, to complete preparations for their June 6 wedding. Yesterday, by divine appointment, my spiritual mentor and I met one hour after my daughter headed south. We had a wonderful talk about my walk, she gave me some wise guidance about areas in which I am not quite surrendered, and then we prayed. My husband and son both happened to be out last night, so I tehn had peaceful hours alone to ponder and pray and read. It was wrenching to see my daughter leave, as I know this is "the beginning of the end," so it was soooo good of God to plan that the rest of my day would allow me to put on The Armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-20) Here's some of it--
"Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, and the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people."

Sweet Allie, welcome to our journey! You are surrounded by gals that love to pray –for we’ve found out that this is the secret to conversing with God! “O LORD, I am calling to you. Please hurry! Listen when I cry to you for help!” (141:1) If it is your will, “reach out your hand, and by the power of your right hand save” (138:7 & 8) young Ryan from this sickness that has been going on too long. May you please let him eat today and regain his strength. Lord, we come together across the miles to ask you to perform a turn-around with this young boy. You are in charge. May you turn Allie’s mourning into joyful dancing? We look forward to You healing Ryan. We can’t wait to sing praises to you, we will not be silent. You will get all the glory! (30:11 &12)
We pray for you to guide Allie today and to allow her to hear your whispers. Tell her what you want her to do. Thank you, that you are in charge of all the details. You know what needs to be done and we wait for your perfect guidance. We love you Lord and we are thankful that you hear our every request. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen.
Jennifer Renee, I’m so glad you got the bus situation taken care of. And there you go again multi-tasking, posting to us while waiting on the phone! Smile - You are amazing! Speaking of radio, if ya’ll get “Family Life” tune into it, if you have not, yet! The pastors teach me every time I hear them. I love this station.
Grace & Peace, praying for your father’s situation. Texting Bible verses-perfect example of keeping the “Armor of God” on! May everyone observing this situation be drawn closer to the Lord as they witness your love and peace that only God could provide. May every word that comes out of your mouth Glorify God. Our Sovereign God “will work out his plans for [your family’s] life” He “will never leave you, for each made each one of you” (138:8). God is always working in each one of us. We give him all of our burdens. Our hope is in the anticipation of his Glory, to come! Thank you dear Father, that G & P does not have to carry this alone. May you “cover [her] with your feathers and [keep her tucked] under your wings where she will find refuge [all day long, Your] faithfulness will be your shield and rampart”. (Psalm 94:4).

Today the Psalms were just too good. Parts of chapter 143 I want to put on a note card to memorize:

I loved the harmony chapter (133) and it makes me think of something you wrote, Jacque, that I pray now, as well: “God can keep working to bring peace and harmony in our home environment through me!” I love that! HARMONY: A state of oneness, the absence of diversity, precious, no discord or division, sweetness in the air (love it!), refreshing!!! Harmony is pleasing to the Lord, girls! Today, may each of our words, help to create a harmonious environment.
Psalm 139 – One of my favorites! I could write more than my limit of words, so I better not even go there! {Grace & Peace, love what you added already re: 23 & 24!}
Another favorite “visual” is given today (like the one of ‘Him bending down to listen’) “You reach out your hand,” (138:7) don’t ya just love that!!! The Lord will work out His plans for our life…for he made [us]! (138:8). I love this verse for all of us mamma hens that keep trying to worry over our children’s futures. The Lord made them and He will work out His plans for their lives. smile

I love Psalm 139. I love how God has always known us and has plans for us and how we're made exactly the way that He wants us to be. He doesn't make mistakes. Our faults or lacks are ways in which we can draw closer to Him and our strengths are ways in which we can serve Him.
I thought a lot about this earlier as I read it again. I found out last night at dinner that the music director for the church we left last year hanged himself yesterday. While there are many problems in that church and he's connected to some of them, this will really shake the church to the core, and I feel so bad for his family and the church. He was also involved musically in many aspects of the community, as well. :-(
Jennifer, I love how quickly your situation was resolved yesterday. I realize that you still have work to do, but at least you now have more time to do it. God is good!
Michelle, I can't imagine saying goodbye to my daughter yet. I'm glad that you had a restful, prayerful eveing. ;-)

Dear GIG, I just read my daily devo. and have to share it with you becuz, well, it just spoke to me this morning. Sorry to say, that I’ve only been memorizing scriptures since last year, (age 50)! It DRAMATICALLY has changed my life. I know many of you have been doing this since you were a young child, and know the benefits already. I joined in with Beth Moore last year, and added a new verse to my small spiral note card packet on the 1st & the 15th of each month. I selected verses innocently, - ones that God placed on my heart. Time and time again, He brings me back to those same verses and opens them up in ways I can’t begin to explain. He has even used them to reveal sin on my heart that I was clueless about! Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly. —Colossians 3:16
When Charles Hayward died last May at the age of 87, he left a legacy for his children and grandchildren. He and his wife Virginia had faithfully served as missionaries for many years both in India and South Africa. But at age 73, he began to select and memorize portions of Scripture so he would “finish well” with his mind full of God’s truth.
He called his project, “The Whole Bible Memorization Plan.” His children call it, “Charlie’s List.” Charles chose a theme verse (Col. 3:16), at least one verse from each Old Testament book, at least one from each New Testament narrative book, and a verse or verses from each chapter of the New Testament Epistles. He began with Genesis 15:6, “He believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness” and ended with Revelation 22:17, “Let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.”
All in all, Charles committed 239 verses to memory. He reminds me of the psalmist who wrote: “Your Word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You” (119:11). Like Charles, the psalmist meditated and delighted in God’s Word (vv.15-16). What better goal could any of us have than to fill our minds with God’s truth. —Cindy Hess Kasper

Heavenly Father: I lift up to you little Ryan who we are concerned about. We don't know what's wrong with him...but You, the ultimate Physician do. We trust Your hand in this; that Your purpose is perfect and planned. Ease Allie's nerves and replace her worry with trust. Please allow Ryan to digest something so the doctors can get the sample that they need. Please give the doctors sharp minds and good clues as to what is going on with Ryan's body. We ask this all in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In Him ALL things are possible. Amen.
I loved Psalm 139 too..I noticed that the "Masterpiece" song derives from those verses. I'm liking this song hunt that Jen-Ren started!

URGENT PRAYER REQUEST:
Dear sisters,
I am asking for your prayers. My sister called an hour ago asking me
if I can meet at my Dad's house. He wanted to explain his side.
Yesterday, my sister gave him a letter telling him what's in her
(ours, really) heart. She showed it to me and it was a very loving
letter. He must have read it and wants to discuss. What caught my attn
was his phrase "explain his side". I just hope he's not going to tell
us that he married this girl or got her pregnant. I am going there
around noon (California time). I have been on my knees since my sister
called an hour ago.
Since my husband can't cover me, I ask for your covering, dear
sisters. May God give me & my sister the words to say. We love our
Dad so much I hope he realizes that.
Also, God gave me a verse yesterday morning: John 8:32. As I was reading Beth Moore's book last night, To Live is Christ, there on page 248, the last
page of ch 41: "If (satan) tried to get his grasp on you or someone
you love, Paul's exhortations can be easily summed up in the words of
Christ in JOHN 8:32: THEN YOU WILL KNOW THE TRUTH, AND THE TRUTH WILL
SET YOU FREE. (All caps mine, because I need it.)

I just returned from a luncheon and wasn't going to post yet when I looked at a clock and realized you had left for your father's house already so I pray now that you and your sister will find the loving words needed to make your father think clearly.
I know from experience that losing a spouse can make for a lonely existence. Since that time (maybe even before) I started to reach out to other lonely people by volunteering and I believe this has helped me much more thAn them!
I was married to a man 17 years older than I was but had no children prior to the marriage . I was married 19 years before he passed away and we had 2 children. The biggest thing was that he was a man of great personal faith which helped our marriage during the rough times. But before we married, we sat down and projected the ages out, when I was this age he would be that. When you do this, you realize the many potential problems of the generational gap and that the female would, more than likely, be a widow for many, many years. And that the female would probably be a care giver at some time. Which generation would our friends come from? What about interests in common?
And on and on. We made it because of our faith but it was not easy. And the age gap was not as large as your father and his "gal friend".
Does he have any close male friends outside the family? It will be very easy for both of them to think the families interest is strictly monetary. I pray that he will see your love for him in all this!
Please let us know what is happening. You have been an inspiration to me. Thank you for that and love, prayers to your family.

Dear Grace and Peace, I pray that God will give you and your sister wisdom to know exactly what to say to your dad. Pray that your dad will have a open heart and mind to receive what's from your heart. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. My father-in-law recently got married to a much younger pastor. He is 76 and she is 54. His wife just past away a year and a half ago. My husband's mother was a women of faith and well loved by everyone. Needless to say we were all hurt when we heard the news he was getting remarried. Now it has been almost 5 months. I see that she really takes good care of him and they both serving Taiwan mission together. Even though there's age different. God provided him with someone who knows his heart. We may not know what is best for him. But God knows exactly what he needed. They are doing great.
Thank you Grace & Peace, Michelle, anonymous, Lori, Morgen, Amy. It is so encouraging to me to learn to pray for others. Please continue to pray for Ryan. Pray that he can keep his food down and have samples soon. Pray he will have his strength back and complete healing.
A little background on Ryan. A year a ago, Ryan had step throat and was not detected. The virus went all over to his joint and he was not able to walk for about a month and a half. He was put on antibiotic for a year as a precaution. Thank God it didn't affect his heart. This month has been 10 months since he was on it. For the past 3 months he was contracting everything around him. From a flu to this stomach problem. The doctor finally stop the antibiotic completely for him. Please pray that God will restore his immune system and his body completely. Let his body be better than new. I thank you God for this trial. I've learn to come to God submissively. Our God is the only way. I've have grown so much spiritually in the past year. I may not know the right word to say or quoting scriptures. But I know God is teaching me every step of the way. He knows my weakspot. Your prayer meant so so much to me. Thank you Lord for putting right people in my path to comfort me. You are all blessing to me. Thank you.

Thank you for your prayers and for sharing your hearts.
I'm home now. I stopped by the cemetery first to visit my mom. Here is the update:
The talk lasted almost 2 hours. We prayed first that we all have open
ears & that whatever comes out of our mouths be from Jesus. He spoke
first and addressed the concerns my sister wrote in her letter. We
just listened and then the discussion began. There were lots of tears,
sobbing and hugging. He has made up his mind. He will be with her. He
may go back to Asia and live out his years there. Needless tosay, this
broke our hearts because when Mom died we were all around her hospital
bed. When his time comes, we may not even be there. So in a way I felt
that this was goodbye. Eventhough he says he will come visit to see
his grandsons. He said his Will & trust will remain the same. My
sister & I told him we don't even care about that. We love him and
care about his welfare. But here was the bottom line. I told my Dad
that it looks like he is not going to be a part of our lives for much
longer. I said the only thing I am concerned about is if we will see
him again when we go to heaven. I know my mom will be there. But I
wanted him to be sure of his salvation. I used to be hesitant to
broach that subject with him but now I'm going to say it. He said he
believes that Jesus died for his sins and he is ready to die any day.
He asked that my sister and I continue to pray for him. So, now I know
he is in the hands of God. Whatever happens to him from this point on
is between him and the Lord. I do love him and will really miss him
but as long as Jesus is with him,he is in good hands.
When I was at the cemetery, God prompted me to call my Dad and ask him to read his bible. So I called and asked if he could promise me that he's going to read his bible everyday. He said he reads his KJV and said he will continue to read everyday. Then we said our I love yous and goodbyes. I pray that as he reads God's words that our Father will speak to him the way He has been speaking to us.
I am at peace with the whole thing now. God has ordained these series of events for a reason.

Grace & Peace, I feel drained after reading your post! I am so sorry about the sudden and unexpected change in what you thought your future would be like. Wow! We just never know, do we? Praising God for having wrapped you in His peace today, and as you go forward into this changed future. Sister, you embody the kind of woman I just read about last night in another Lysa Terkeurst book I am loving. I'll just change the name to yours, sweet sister:
"G&P is a woman on a journey of learning how to make sure her reactions don't deny Christ's presence in her. She is a woman who says yes to God not because her emotions and reactions are always perfect. No, G&P says yes to God because He is perfectly able to forgive her, love her, remind her, challenge her, and show her how to weather trials in ways that prove His Spirit resides within her."

Allie, poor Ryan. Dear Lord, please pour your mercy into Ryan and the magnificent temple you created for him, and cleanse it of all that is ailing him. May his body work just as you designed it to. Lord, we ask that you bring healing and strength to this boy and his loving, hurting mother, in Jesus' name, Amen.

Good Morning All! Allie - what WONDERFUL news! Praise God indeed. You have been in my prayers - it is so hard when our children are sick, but I would say when throw up is involved, it is worse than any other sickness - I'm praying that Ryan continues to keep everything down today and praying for strength for you!! G & P - Wow. What a conversation w/ your dad! I am so thankful that you have the heavenly perspective on this - you and your sister and your dad are in my prayers as well. Keep your eyes on Jesus.
I haven't had time to comment in a while, but I've been keeping up with the readings and reading your comments. I'm struggling w/ the same thing that some of you have mentioned - I love the psalms, but reading so many at once at times make my mind wander & I'm missing some good nuggets. It's a beautiful day in VA today! Wendy, I'm praying for safe travels home for you today - I hope you've had a wonderful weekend! And one last bit of news - for those of you who remember praying for Blair & John - after spending over a month in ICU, & several weeks in a rehab shelter, John came home this past week! PTL! No one can measure his greatness” (Psalm 145…).
This is how Psalm 145 begins and it continues throughout every line giving us reasons why we can praise the Lord. It closes by reminding us that he is with us, he is so close to us, and He will give us the desires of our heart and will protect us if: (145:18-20)
We call on him!
We fear him!
We love him!
As you read it, think of it as praises you would lift up after receiving an answer to your prayer, or at night, when you realize that God allowed you to walk that day in victory. I’m sure this Psalm was sung after one of the victory battles. But, wow, how many victories do we see in a day? A lot! I love this Psalm; it is a written example of how we can praise our Father when he shows us kindness, when we see him in our day, when he has answered a special prayer request, and maybe even when we look around and see his creation and marvel at his magnitude! The more we praise him, the more confused the enemy is – and he has to flee!

Lord, praise you and thank you – we give you all the Glory for keeping the food down in Ryan. May you continue to hold on to him with your powerful arm and spread good health throughout his entire being.
G & P, you are modeling to all of us how to cling to our Father, during a very difficult trial. Bless you, sister! Your words have touched me, and hopefully, I can follow your example. Trials serve different purposes: They bring us closer to God, they develop our patience as we wait on Him, they bring those around us closer to God as others’ witness our peace, and they also increase our faith, as we see God’s hand working.
“The LORD helps the fallen and lifts those bent beneath their loads” (13).

Allie, wonderful news. With no disrespect meant, I do believe this is the first time I have prayed for poop! Well, there's a first time for everything, I guess!
I'm about to take the dog for a walk, and I will send up big prayers for Ryan's recovery, interspersed with big praise for God's magnificent trees and flowers here in sunny New England.

I need your prayers. At the emergency room on Friday and diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and bronchitis. Am at my son's home so am not alone. The antibiotic for the bronchitis is causing diarrhea. I am weak and know when I am weak HE is strong!
Praying for Ryan and sweet G&P. I am reading these beautiful Psalms and 139 is one of my favorites. I covet your prayers for I know HE listens and answers. Being 80 yrs with a pacemaker this coughing isn't helping.

Teeny, Praying for you my dear sister. May God heal you completely. May the medicine do it's job and get rid of whatever disease is in your body. We call on Jehovah Rapha, our God who heals. May He clear your congestion, too. Oh, I thank him for giving you a son who can take care of you during your time of need. May it bring mother and son closer during this time. Keep your bible handy, Teeny. Or pop back in here if you need company.
Michelle, thank you for those sweet, sweet words from last night (wiping tears). My sister sent me a text this morning with more analysis of what went down yesterday. She thinks when we prayed on March 21st for my Dad it was too late because they met the day before. I told her our prayers then were not wasted because God is not bound by neither calendar nor time. Everything to God is in the NOW. So, He is working. I just asked that she not listen to the enemy's whispers and instead fill her mind with God's word. Also to pray to remove the bitterness from her heart. It is very important that we treat Dad with love and kindness, moreso now than before. It may be what turns his heart back to us.
Allie - PRAISE GOD for working on Ryan!!!!! Thank you for coming back to share the good news with us. It is so encouraging to see how God is working in each of our lives.

Lori, sweet sister. Thank you as always for your kind words. I pray that as you open your prayer journal that you will see nothing but red ink as an indication of His answer to our prayers. Red ink just like Jesus' blood spilled on the cross for us.
Had my morning walk early today instead of after dinner. Love hearing the birds and the cool morning breeze. It's like being hugged by the Holy Spirit.
Last night at church, we watched a group perform who was a big part of the Jesus movement in the 70s. My son and I managed to get a seat in the front row. I found out that they needed ushers. Well I had my badge in my bible so I volunteered to help out. After the day I've had, it was just nice to stand there in the house of the Lord greeting everyone who comes in. It was a blessing. And during the service my Pastor said that where two or three are gathered, Jesus is in the midst. There was an empty chair up on stage right in front of where we were sitting. One of the band members placed it there when they were done using it. The spotlight was hitting it and there was a sort of glow around the chair. I imagined Jesus sitting there and watching us all, smiling. Good feeling.
Well, my DS2 and I need to finish a diorama/book report that is due on Friday. Talk about pulling teeth. The book he read is "The Dreamer, The Schemer & The Robe" by Jenny Cote (sp). It's the sequel to the animals who were aboard Noah's Ark. Now they're in Egypt with Joseph.
Thanks again, dear sisters. I know I could not bear this load alone and God is so gracious to lead me to this group of Spirit-filled, godly women. I promise that when we get to heaven y'all are getting a great big HUG from me.

Teeny, praying for you to have peace, comfort and love around you, from your son and from our Lord. Can you put some nice music on to listen to to help you be calm? That would surely help the breathing.

Hi All!
I have to admit I had fallen behind in my reAding the Bible and playing catch up today. Part of it was due to other readings - I just finished The Late, Great Planet Earth as well as others by Joel Rosenberg.
So - back to Psalm 101. It might have been written as David's first inaugural address. Oh how I wish it could be part of current politicians feelings - all over the world.
David said "I won't spend time with wicked people." But Jon Courson says - "But wasn't Jesus called the friend of sinners? Didn't he hang out with people of questionable reputations? Yes, But rather than being changed by a situation, Jesus changed it. You see, we're either going to be thermometers or thermostats. A thermometer goes up and down with the temperature of the room. A thermostat changes the conditions in the room."
My simple prayer is "God, I know in many, many ways I have been a thermometer, being easily influenced by "the temperature of the room". Would I can be truly a thermostat to change the conditions in the room for the better." Amen

This is the day the Lord has made...I will rejoice and be glad in it!
