Wendy, your hair looked great in Texas!! Thank you so much for coming to visit with us. You and your message were amazing and I know for a fact that the women of NEBC and the surrounding areas have been touched by the Holy Spirit this weekend. The Lord was here and He is changing lives in the midst of the WAIT. I remember speaking with you Saturday after the conference and looking into your eyes and feeling God's Peace flooding into my heart. Thank you for the encouragement, I hope to see you next year at She Speaks.
Michelle in VA, I smiled when I read that you're outside of D.C. I live in D.C. and use special transportation for the disabled to get around. I would love to visit your church one day. Call me crazy but I'm really not, ha smile, I just think it would be fun to meat one of our gigs. It's nice to finally read a comment from someone right in my area. To have someone in my area reading a blog that I'm reading and commenting touches my heart. I don't even think any of my friends from church have heard of this blog or Proverbs 31 Ministries. My friends in church hardly ever call or email me.
I have to say I had a wonderful time all yesterday morning in church. I worshiped and praised God from 8 a.m. until around 2 p.m. It was two services and Sunday school in between.
From my Sunday school lesson last week I learned that even though our priorities are important, family, jobs, etc. we can't use them as an excuse for not doing something for God when he calls us into a ministry. I'm glad that we're all hanging in with this Bible study even though sometimes we get busy with our lives.
Lori, if I ever find my way to where you live, wherever that is, I'd love to have you take me shopping. Actually I'd like to think that we'd be going shopping together like friends do. Not like when I'm with my sisters. They take me shopping, which I don't think they like doing too much, because I'm blind and need help. It never seems like my sisters and I go shopping together like they do with each other. Even though it can be frustrating for me when it comes to clothes shopping because it's hard to find things that will fit me or find the style of clothes I like it can be a lot of fun. There have been times a few years ago when I've gone shopping with a friend from church and we'd spend much of the time laughing. I think you'd enjoy shopping with a blind person. Smile. People have expressed their amazement with how much I can actually do.
Father in Heaven,
I lift this prayer up for the families and friends in TN. Please calm them with your love. Meet them in their need. For those who are sick, sustain them and bring them your healing and your peace. For those who have lost homes and family, comfort them. Remind them that you have a plan for them, a plan to prosper them and not to harm them; a plan to give them hope and a future. For Jan and Brandee, our sisters here on the blog, hear their prayers and remind them that you will provide for their needs. Make your presence and your love felt in this time of uncertainty and trouble. In your name we pray, Amen
Thank you Wendy for your words. I didn't have a nugget other than the music and the families (250 persons) who were all accomplished musicians. I love music in worship and am exceedingly grateful that David installed this into our traditions.
I think the things you said are very true and worth serious pondering. I have also been guilty of filling my name into the blank when I see a need without thinking much about it, and then feeling worn out! I believe it is important to form ministry teams where more than one person fills each leadership role. I know that for small churches, this is a very big hurdle and there may not be enough people for this to occur, but where it can, I think it is essential. So many times people are happy to sit back and allow the handful of volunteers take it all on indefinitely. This leads to stress and disharmony and the enthusiasm that originally filled the volunteer turns to resentment.
I also think we need to really examine our gifts. For many years I could not identify my gifts. I tried different roles and didn't feel like they fit. I knew what I wasn't, but I didn't know what I was. I am still searching a bit, but for those of you who know your gifts, you are very lucky and I encourage you to use them. For those of you who might be like me where you don't know what your gifts are, pray about it. Try different things (in supportive roles while you are searching) and see what fits best. God will help you see where you are needed.

Good Morning GIGs! I have to take a moment to say a huge Thank You to all of you for offering words of encouragement to me this weekend as I am drowning in a combination of busyness and, I must confess, laziness in my prayer life. Michelle, Lori, G&P - thank you for your specific words. I am definitely learning how important it is to pray no matter what - even if I don't feel the spirit - to remain faithful in my prayers is my goal. Especially in the home stretch of school here - 5 weeks to go! And I have a great class this year, I think I just always start looking forward to summer break this time of year.
Dixie - I loved your sign-off on Saturday. I read that and immediately put away my computer, got the girls in their bathing suits, and hit the sprinklers in the yard for an afternoon of fun. I don't believe I would have done that if you hadn't suggested to go make some memories.
I am so blessed by this study and by all of you women, and especially by your teaching, Wendy. I'll hop back on tonight to listen to the vlog, but I'm glad to see you made it back safe and sound from Texas. Y'all have a great day!

PS - One of you had asked about Blair and John. PTL, after spending 30some days in ICU, John has been released from the hospital and is at a rehab center for about 2 weeks, and then he is slated to come home. Hallelujah! That is 2 men in my life (my FIL being the other one) who faced serious health crises this year and were "not supposed to make it" and both have had miraculous healings. PTL!
Kate, bless you for checking back in with us -- and with such an upbeat post on all fronts. I can picture you all jumping through the sprinkler. I had asked about John - I pray for him daily. It sounds like you are having miracles in your family like we have had with my sister, Denise. Ladies, Denise and I spent Saturday morning with me holding a mirror and her trying on all her different wigs with the hat she has purchased for the wedding, and then we picked out a necklace from her stash of jewelry from the days when her hands were steady enough to do beading. It helped her stay sane for a few years after the transplant. (Jen Ren, did you ever locate the correct color beads for your project?)
Wendy, thank you for your message about not compromising our families. Sometimes I feel I should be doing something outside of work and family and extended family obligations, but I know I would be too stretched and the family would be compromised. There will be time for that in the near future, I'm sure. I also liked your message about "don't sign up on that line if it is not for you to do." This weekend I let out a little on the kite string (thanks again, Deb, for that oh-so-useful analogy) when my daughter was stressing, yet again. I left the room (she knew why), so she called her fiance in Florida instead of discussing it with me. He "signed on the line", and called her multiple times over the weekend to check in and help her through whatever the crisis of the moment was. Whew!!
On to the reading. As I read today, I abruptly stopped at the phrase "...and faithfully carried out their duties of service..." and thought about my husband. I am so thankful that the Lord brought us together. My husband is like a steadfast soldier, always serving and providing for his family, working incredibly hard at work and around the home, and setting a fine example for me and our two young adult children.
My to do Thank the Lord for my husband more often, and make sure my husband knows how much I appreciate his faithfulness to our family.

I thought today's reading was rather dry, too, but the thought of all of those trained musicians leading worship twice each day is not. How amazing that must have been to be there in the temple of God, praising with all of those people! I liked that they praised together in the morning and in the evening, too - maybe like the way that we're to start and end our day with God. What better way to spend our time with Him than to praise, for what He's already done and for what we know that He's going to do?
Karen, I've spent lots of time trying to figure out where I fit and can serve, too. Two years ago yesterday I went to a women's conference led by Renee Swope, and she talked a lot at a small group session about the specific way that God created our personalities and what our strengths and weaknesses to be. She talked about how all of that, along with our likes and dislikes, translates into the types of things that we should say 'yes' to within out families, churches, and friends. It really struck a chord with me, and I eventually bought the workbook she's published to help people figure it all out. Maybe it's something you'd like?
To our teachers ... I'm a teacher, too, although I quit several years ago to stay home with our short people. There's something about this time of year that makes me antsy - even now, when I've been out of a public school classroom for years. I totally relate to your feelings, though! If there's anything I can ever help with, I'm happy to do it. Trying to find ways to make things work with my wide variety of students was one of my favorite parts.
I'm praying for our TN GIGs, too. I know some of you hear from them outside of this study ... has anyone heard from them? Know that they're safe?
Jennifer Renee, I'm a terrible shopper! I'm rather short and it's never easy to find things that fit, but I think it's fun to out with friends and try. Dresses and jumpers were my favorite things to wear when I was teaching, and some days I'll still pull one out and wear it here at home - it's so comfortable! If you're ever in northern NC, you have a shopping buddy!

Good Morning GIGs,
Amy I am here :) We are fine here where I am in my town. There was some flooding here in our town but our road and house are fine. We do have the three roof leaks we discovered yesterday that we are going to have looked at today or tomorrow. I found out a guy from our church has a roofing company and my husband called him yesterday afternoon. He is suppose to call me this morning to let me know when he is coming out. As I am typing the sun is coming up and that is the best thing we could see on this Monday morning! Thank you all for your prayers. Middle TN is just devastated. Jan will find out more today or in the morning the damage to her property. Keep her in your prayers. They own the campground and we are praying for no roof damage on their bathhouse or chapel. The schools are all closed today so my son is going to be home hanging out with mom. He was going to dust the house for me, we will see long that lasts, lol.

I would like to take it myself when I get a few minutes. I do know some of what I am not gifted to do and I have grown to where I will say no even if I feel pressured. You have to keep that balance and my family has to come first. With my situation with my husband not being a believer it is very, very important that I do not put church things ahead of my family. I have been advised on that many time by other women who have walked this path. It will only turn them off more if they think church service comes before the family.
My heart is and has been for women's ministry and for our church to have a more vibrant, active women's ministry that really reaches our women to help them grow in their relationship with Christ and with each other. It has been on my heart for a long time. I shared with some of you that when our church went through a split two years ago I stayed even though many, many of my friends left. I was committed to the MOPS ministry. I am very thankful I was committed because I know myself and I would have probably left because all my friends were. But I know God kept me where I am for a purpose and I know that purpose is for our women's ministry. Doors are starting to open and it is exciting. I am meeting tomorrow with two friends to talk about a summer women's Bible study and this is going to be the starting point.
At "She Speaks" I learned when you add something on you always take something away to stay in balance. Since hearing that I have tried to live that way and it does work. I get overwhelmed very easily if I take on too much and I have to constantly be on my knees about commitments and my time.

I loved that when David was dividing up all those men for important jobs for the temple, 4000 were set aside for "just" for PRAISING with music---must be important.
Wendy, thanks for the reminder to pray before saying yes to all the good opportunities to serve--- there are so many good things that we can do, but they may not be the good thing for me and my family. Brandee, thanks for sharing the wisdom of not taking something on with letting something go. If we take on too much, we can't give our best to God and we just burn out.
Michelle, I appreciated your thoughts on the faithfulness and steadfastness of your husband. I did not grow up in a family that praised and finding words to praise my husband with always makes me happy.

Jennifer Renee it is nice to know that we are neighbors and I would love to have you join me at my church one day! I could pick you up at the end of the orange line and take you with me. We have a speaker coming in to speak in our services on forgiveness and I was thinking it would be a good one to invite people to. Today, I would like to ask you all to pray for my daughter, Jessica. She graduates from college in a couple of weeks and is feeling led to teach at an orphanage in Ghana. Hi Ya'll, today as I awoke, I had to really thank the Lord, for the weather here, that I take for granted! Sometimes we don't even realize how fortunate we are. Amy, Brandee's roof is leaking, and poor Jan, their canoe camp (lovely camp, ya'll need to check-out her site,) is under water! Praying for this area of devastation.
Today, I was thinking like you, Karen, about David placing music into our traditions. I love all kinds of music, probably because it's an area that I have zero talent! I love all the different sounds that they make when combined.
Talents are special characteristics that we are able to do, and I love how God has gifted each of us with something unique and hand-crafted by Him. Chosen by Him, for us! If you are not sure what your talent is, begin praying and asking Him what it is. He will open this up to you; you may be doing it already, and not even be aware of the special talent you have.
I love the way David avoids any favoritism. Duties were rotated, no one person did any more or less service to the Lord than the other.
Wendy, You passed down some good wisdom today to us ladies!!! As you were talking, I was aware of an area that God brought to my attention. He showed me many years ago, that I tend to do too much here at home, where I should be using the talents of my kids, to let them take on more responsibilities. Many times I'd feel stressed, and I was doing it to myself, thinking I could do these jobs best. Yes, it was easier too, for me just to do it, rather than train them to do it. Well, over time, I began teaching them how to do more and more. I was amazed at what they could do.
What David installed many years ago is meant for us to install in our homes, ladies. Specific chores. Showing no favoritism. Rotating. Responsibilities shared. The benefits: learning the new skills gives them confidence and increases their self-esteem because they've acquired a new skill. It teaches them how to serve, and they are less, self-centered. Not to mention a momma who's less cranky. smile! We don't need to add more stress to our filled-up plate, nor do we want to rob our children, of learning new skills, and feeling confident about it.

Jennifer Renee, our shopping trip would be full of laughs I'm sure! My sister - the queen-bee shopper, and I spent many days at the mall, and I'm sure others' around us in the dressing rooms wondered what was going on! She's not even 5 feet so it never was easy to find clothes for her.

PS I was taught many, many years ago, from our pastor...that we need to keep some "margin on our plate." That it should never be over-flowing, cuz that's when we get stressed, and cranky. We are not much able to do what God commands us to do: LOVE. Like Brandee said, when we add something on, we need to take something off. We had a wonderful weekend. My hubby and I joined a group that travels singing for the Lord and last night we were in Oklahoma. Got home at 1:30 am today, but it was such a blessing to sing our Lord's praises with these sincere believers.
Matthew Henry had several nuggets-God was and still is the God of order and peace. When everyone has, knows, and keeps his place and works, the more the better. Christ is our High Priest over the house of God, to whom all believers, being made priests, are to be in subjection. It is the greatest liberty and pleasure to be employed in praising God.
It seems to me that the Levites were already trained in music, singing and instruments before they were assigned.
In 23:32," the Levites watched over the Tabernacle and the Temple and faithfully carried out their duties of service at the house of the Lord." We, too are called to be faithful in His service.
Even though there were lots of names to read, wouldn't it have been an honor to have your name listed in the Bible? That's why I don't skip over them.

Oh, I'm behind. I wasn't able to do much online yesterday. Went to church and we had a special speaker in the morning because our Senior Pastor is away, they call him Iran's Billy Graham. Oh, sweet sisters, the work that God is doing there is amazing. Let us pray for our brothers and sisters in that country.
Brandee, praying that the damage to the roof is minimal. Jan, praying for the same with your campground. Oh, and Brandee, you're very wise not to let church things interfere with your family. My DH has voiced the same complaint before so I'm careful to choose the things I am involved in. That's why this blog and the Koinonia Institute classes work for me because I can do those online - so I am learning and growing in the knowledge of His word and not even leave the house.
Lori, that Lazarus add-on is a lifesaver. No more disappearing posts. Thanks for asking about Mr. G&P. That was part of the reason I couldn't check back yesterday. After 1st service my son and I went to the grocery store and when I got home made DH not one, but two main dishes. Both of my guys went back for seconds. Spending that much time in the kitchen made me want to take a half hour nap - which extended to two hours, so by the time I woke up, it was time for Sunday night church.

Friends I wanted to update you all on our situation here in our town. We have found out we have several water main breaks and so our water supply is very limited. My son and I are going to go to the grocery to gets some paper plates and things like that to use until they get it fixed to conserve water. We have all been asked to really conserve. My husband has gone to Walmart in the town he is working in to see if they have some gallons of water. Thanks for your continued prayers. I have never seen TN like this and I have lived here my whole life, 35 years.

Brandee, will continue to pray. I hope your husband is able to find some water and that what you have will be enough, just like the lamp oil during ... was it Passover? ... and the widow's flour was enough.
My family likes to camp, and we're here in north central NC. I'd love to check out Jan's campground website, and maybe we can head west sometime. My husband has vacation in a few weeks, but I'm not sure we'll be doing any major traveling until our other house sells.
I realize that's not as critical as the other problems we've been praying for, but it's a big deal for us, so if someone has an extra minute or two ... would you pray that our house sells, please? We moved to a bigger house when I was pregnant with our first and did a rent-to-own arrangement with another family, but they suddenly moved out last week with no warning. Now we have to make two mortgage payments each month, and with me staying at home, it's just not there. It'll take our savings within just a few months, and I'm picking up more work at home at the end of the summer, so I don't think we're in danger of losing the house - just our savings and having added stress, of course. Anyway, I was really upset about this last week, but then hearing about Baby Gabriel and Jim and John and all the other miracles have put this back in perspective. Still ... I'd love for it to sell and to be able to get our finances back on track, and in the meantime, dreaming about camping at Jan's campground sounds pretty good! :-)

Gifts- I love being a listener to Christian music. Rather being a much better listener than playing instruments and even worse in singing.
I use my gift of nurturing people- all women tend to do this but I was given a extra amount of nurturing ability.
I can nurture people through my work and in my family. Sometimes these links lead into nurturing others who do not fit into my categories of work or home. I have to remember to leave " a margin".
Everyone had such great comments which really have led me to see I need to preserve this margin around my plate as I can get so swept away in the nurturing of others allowing my time for family to slip away.

Good afternoon all. I haven't done my reading yet but I will. I am enjoying reading all the comments and praying for everyone.
Today is a day of sadness for me.
1. Being blind. I tried to figure out how to do an online order for something and it wasn't working. I had to call in the order but didn't get the savings I could have if it was done online.
2. I'm thinking a lot about my Spiritual mom today who I really miss.
3. Today would have been my grandmother's 92nd birthday. She passed in 1988 and I miss her.
Michelle in New England, I haven't gotten my beads sorted out or the color pulled out that I need for my project. That's alright for now because I bought beads that are only the color I need for the moment. I get the feeling that when it comes to helping me with things that might take a little time people don't want to help and I don't like to be a burden or a bother to people. The project I'm working on is a special prayer box so anytime I read a prayer request from any of you I can put it in Braille and put it in my box. I laid that project aside for a moment because yesterday I thought about making my mom a mother's day card. Thankfully she likes the same color I'm making my box out of. I want to make a card for my Spiritual mom too.

Jumping into the comments about the reading today... It was such a celebration of music! I love that God thinks this is an important part of our lives and endorses it!
I was touched by 1 Chron 25:8 that said, "The musicians were appointed to their term of service by means of sacred lots, without regard to whether they were young or old, teacher or student."
What a perfect way for all to learn from each other! Mentoring was part of the job! It helped the ensemble to stay balanced, fostered encouragement in the younger ones, and kept those accomplished musicians humble! Artists and musicians do have a special temperament (smile), but this music was for praising God and not for showing off. The perfect scenario.
You are all in my heart, and I continue to pray for each one of your needs and concerns, and am so grateful for all the answered prayers. I love seeing God answering our prayers in so many ways!
So here I am, have been up since 5am, worked all day, and now doing an online test, of all things?! Thanks Brandee for the link-- I had to try it, because I love to learn! So my top three gifts are these... mercy-20, wisdom 16, and pastor/teacher 15. I do see where I fall very short on other gifts but it is OK, and now I know I don't have to be everything to everybody!
I am an RN in an orthopedic clinic, and I love to spend time with my patients, helping them to feel better by teaching them how to better care for the bodies God has given them. It is easy for me to look beyond the exterior to their precious spirits, and it is hard to see others judging these same people. They share their concerns with me, and what a perfect opportunity this is for me-- to offer to pray for them or their families when they are having difficulties. It is becoming much easier for me to step out of my safety zone and into the "spirit zone" since I have been connected with all of you! Thank you for giving me the courage to speak up more and more!

I appreciate everyone praying for us here in TN. We couldn't get to the campground until this evening. There are 6 campers that floated from the river across our field into the creek. The water was over the roof. Inside the bathrooms there was debris in the rafters, even paper towels draped over the rafters. W are experiencing what those people in New Orleans did after that historic hurricane. Mud about 3" thick. In the camp store, the freezer and fridge were turned upside down and full of mud and water. The water tank was on its side and broken loose. The shelf it and the 2 water heaters were on was pulled away from the wall. We are so thankful that there is no structure damage to either the bathhouse or the chapel. Someone had put a little white cross by one corner of the chapel that said, "He is Risen"...it was still there! It just shows that He is still in control! We have a lot of cleanup to do, but we are thankful, either bldg could have gone down the river.

Thank you Jan for letting us know you are OK. I am so sorry about the clean up ahead. Such power in a raging flood. Take care of yourself and get your rest so you stay well. For now God will be your strength.
