Unchecked Anger
"Well, keep silent for now..."

My Take Aways

Something Old:
So many things to think about in a fresh way.

2 Samuel 13:30

Keeping silent about pain and hurtful things can be very harmful.

2 Samuel 13:28

Inviting someone into our anger is never a good idea.

Something New:
Why wouldn't David attend Absalom's party? Had he gone, would Absalom have gone through with his plan and killed his brother in front of his father.

2 Samuel 14:14
"But God does not just sweep life away; instead, He devises ways to bring us back when we have been separated from him."

Something to Do:
Don't allow anger to take root in my heart.

Good morning, GIG's,

Wendy, next time the kids come into the room while you are talking to us, just have them lean in to the camera and give us a big "Hey, Y'all!" That would be fun!

Kelly -- Welcome! I enjoyed your post last night and look forward to more from you.

Linda -- I'm so sorry about the tragic van accident involving some from your church. My prayers for Lidania to recover completely from all her injuries, and for all the others to heal as well from any emotional scars. Dear Father, keep them all wrapped in your loving arms. Amen.

In today's reading, my nugget concerned Jonadab. 2 Samuel 13:3 "But Amnon had a very crafty friend -- his cousin Jonadab" who is a key player in actually plotting the rape of Tamar! I was absolutely puzzled as to why he would do such a thing, so I did some research and read a theory that he was actually in collusion with Absalom, who wanted to get rid of Amnon so he could inherit David's throne.

I also looked up "crafty", which means "skillful in underhand or evil schemes, deceitful, sly."

This particular story is new to me, but evil schemes, jealousy and greed certainly are not. I almost thought I was reading Shakespeare at one point this morning. And sadly, there are estrangements in my family of origin that occurred because of these same types of sins.

My take away is to not be overly naive in the future about the existence of sin and evil in people's natures, and also in my own. Although estrangements are painful, God can (as Brandee said yesterday) use our pain for good. We cannot FIX everything, as much as we would like to. Sometimes we need to leave things up to God instead of trying to control things, and winding up making even more of a mess.

I don't know if this has made any sense, and now I'm out of time.

Big prayers for Baby Gabriel today!

Peace and Gratitude,
Michelle in New England

Good Morning, Everyone! Wendy, loved your PS today! So, many times I wonder how in the world are you able to do this video everyday with all the things going on in your life...silly me, it's not you, it's God equipping you to do this! I love Him!

Today, Wendy [Your New]has got me really thinking! If David had been there...hmm, things tend to go wrong when there is not adult supervision! Oh, the disasters we all hear about when the couples "do their own thing" leaving their offspring to tend to their own needs. Something that may even hit home more...what about Satan tempting us to stay on the computer longer than we should, to keep us away from focusing on the true needs in our homes...OUCH!

Daily, these scriptures are meant for us. Not 'so and so', but you and me. Lessons beyond anything we could learn from a class. We have everything we need to be successful in life: God's Bible. Jesus living in us. The Holy Spirit guiding us.

What happens when we are not where we are supposed to be?

Today, we see the sad consequences of David’s sin begin to unravel:
*His poor innocent daughter’s rape broke my heart!
*His self-centered son without morals
*Retaliation between his sons
*And even murder

We live in a sinful world. The only way to avoid sinning, is to stay connected to God through His precious Word, - daily, taking the time to study His precepts. Daily, surrounding ourselves with Believers. Daily, abiding in Him and focusing our attention on Him, - seeking Him to lead us where He wants us to go.

And, smile…praising Him and thanking Him to keep Satan confused!

And, humbling ourselves, asking God to show us the sin present in our lives. If we know it’s there we need to repent. Seek forgiveness before it’s too late. Lord, I desire a pure heart. I want nothing to separate me from Your presence dear LORD.

Welcome Kris! Kelly great to see you back! Don't stay gone for so long this time! smile. Praying for young Lidania, and the entire group, that through this ordeal, they each will grow closer to their Father, and know that He is with them. That unsaved observes watching them, will be saved through observing the groups' strong faith.
Praying for little Gabriel...
Jennifer Renee pop in today! We miss you. How are u doing with your dad?

Today dear girls, we can make it! We've got the Creator of the World on our side! Let's go out and show some loving kindness!

Hugs, Lori

Hi all. Happy Tuesday.

Something Old: Absalom lusted for and then raped his half sister Tamar. Obsession.

Something New: Suddenly his love turned to hate. There is such a fine line between love and hate. But was it really Love he felt for Tamar?

Nugget: Keep my eyes and mind on the Lord and His word. Then I don't have time to begin to obsess and lust over something that will do me harm in the end.

Keep on praising Him. I praise Him that He is in complete control of baby Gabriel's situation and all the people involved in that horrible van accident. God holds them all in His hand.

Morning, GIGS! Wendy, this vlog was just precious with your family as a part of it!! And, thank you for sharing about Wendy B.--what a beautiful godly lady! I just love her!!

Girls, I love what you all had to say.Michelle, thank you for researching about Amnon and his cousin. Very interesting.

I wanted to know what you thought about 2 Samuel 14:27. Absalom named his daughter after his sister. When I first read it, I did a double take thinking I was rereading the earlier story but now in Chronicles! I did look at the scripture reference and saw that this was a different story, and I was still in 2 Samuel. Then, I thought that Absalom named her Tamar as a blessing or in honor toward his sister and all that she had endured. Any thoughts? I may be completely wrong.

Prayers continued to be lifted for Lidania and baby Gabe. I am on his caring bridge site....it is such a blessing.

Hugs!

Morgen- I like how you asked "Was it really love Ammon felt for Tamar?"..since his love quickly turned to hate. Perhapes his "love" was more on the level of lust. After all he was obessing over his sister's beauty. Perhaps his love for her was only as skin deep as her beauty.

My first thoughts on today's reading were on "...keep quite for now...don't worry about it..." Sadly that is how it is in the world all around us. Whether someone is raped, sexually harrassed (sp?), or mistreated in one form or another. They are told to keep quiet or else. And alot of times FEAR holds them back from speaking out. "What if..." begins its tricks to keep them from speaking up. Sadder still is that it is happening in some of the churches around the world too.

THis hits pretty close to home for me b/c I am standing against my previous pastor for sexual harrassment he put on two of our young teens. Out of fear they have kept quiet for more than 4 years until rescently. A couple brethern in the church went to him with concerns that didn't look good and they went to him out of love b/c they didn't want him to end up with a bad rep. But he became angery and denied everything. And out of this, just by 2 men going to this pastor out of love for how things looked, 2 girls have shared their stories. Please pray for these 2 girls who need the Lord but want nothing to really do with church b/c of what has happened to them.

Thanks, to all, for sharing your thoughts today. Today and yesterday's lessons have really been a big help to me!

Good Morning all!
Prayers for Baby Gabriel going up. Let's all hang onto that mustard seed of faith!

I too enjoyed the "reality" of Griffin. It makes me smile. How routine our lives would be without our children.

Wow, this passage of scripture brings a lot of emotion. The result of lust of the flesh, when allowed to grow, can destroy the futures of many. However, our God is a healer of futures and it is so awesome how He can turn the pain into purpose and new found joy when turned over to Him to use for His glory.
This passage alerts me to how easy it is to fall into sin. The enemy is a roaring lion and will take every spec of an opportunity to stop our witness. We must stay vigilent in the Word and on our knees before God. Stay humble and stay "plugged in".
Thank you Lord for your provisions for this day. Thank you for the beauty of this season that reveals yourself to us in new life all around us. YOU ARE GLORIOUS, Oh God.

Praying for baby Gabriel today and continuing prayers for Lidania and all those involved in the accident. Oh, Jules, those poor girls. Praying for God's healing for them, too, for those deeper scars that no one sees.

Lori, I thought of you last night as I walked around my neighborhood. I'm trying to get out more now to take care of this temple God gave me. And you're right, it is a good time to fellowship with God and just talk things out - with the birds in the background.

Welcome Kris and Kelly! Very nice to read your posts.

Michelle, I never thought about Absalom in collusion with Jonadab. But that seems such a cruel thing to do to his sister because he seemed to really love her. Lesson learned: be discerning of the company we keep. I remember this from a Mom's In Touch prayer, "Bad company corrupts good character" based on 1 Cor 15:33, I think.

Today's reading is sobering because we see the consequence of David's sin with Bathsheba. I don't know the interval between Chapter 11 and Chapter 13 but the law of sowing and reaping is laid out for us.

Jon Courson had some good insights that I'd like to share.

2 Sam 13:21 said that David was very wroth/angry. "...David is upset, [yet] he does nothing. How could this be? The answer, I believe is very simple. He succumbed to [the same sin of] lust with Bathsheba and murdered her husband to cover his tracks. Therefore, he felt as though he didn't have any right to address Amnon's sin. Mom, Dad, listen carefully. This is Satan's favorite tactic to get you to allow your kids to [compromise]. "Who are you to tell your kids what to do? Think of all the sins you commit every day," he hisses. But he's wrong because TRUTH IS TRUTH REGARDLESS OF WHO SPEAKS IT... David was crippled by the condemnation of Satan" (emphasis mine, p. 932)

And on Absalom and David in 2 Sam 14:33, he said:
"Reconciliation is made - but it's too late. For five years, bitterness has been growing in the heart of Absalom. David was a man who sinned greatly, yet he was forgiven completely. Now he cannot completely forgive his son. He loves him but he can't forgive him. He puts conditions upon his forgiveness." (Jon Courson's Application Commentary Old Testament, Vol. 1, p. 936)

It is a great reminder to us who have been forgiven greatly to extend the same grace to those who hurt us. Afterall, Christ did not die only for our sins but for theirs as well. This is something I have to remind myself time and time again.

Have a blessed day everyone!

Thank you sweet ones for your prayers for Lidania and others in the accident. Details are written yesterday if you haven't read it. She is 13 instead of 11. To God be the glory in all things. We wait to see and hear of His wonders.

I thank God that He doesn't sweep our lives away when we sin;(verse 14) that He devises ways to bring each of us back when we have been separated from Him. Most of us have our own story to tell, don't we? He knows just what it takes, too. He gets our attention in various ways. What a promise for us with our loved ones who have strayed from God. Keep praying.

Verse 13-Sometimes we are quick to forgive others and slow to forgive those family members closest to us.
He shows us mercy and compassion so we can show mercy and compassion to others. That's what I need to do, too.

Yesterday is gone, but today is here and now, with tomorrow is around the corner.

Go in God's Love,
Linda from Ark.

2 Samuel 14:14 gave me something to think about.
All of us must die eventually. Our lives are like water spilled out on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. But God does not just sweep life away; instead, he devises ways to bring us back when we have been separated from him.

I thought about how when we die Jesus will come back for us.
1 Corinthians 15
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

Good afternoon Ladies - What stuck out most to me today was in 2 Sam 14:14 - "But God does not just sweep life away; instead, he devises ways to bring us back when we have been separated from him. PTL. I am very appreciative for that!!!! What I may not always like is the way he "devises" to bring us back - lots of times it comes in the form of lack, sickness, loneliness, fear, sorrow etc. It sure gets my attention though and forces me to look inward.

I am usually pretty good about not keeping my anger in and allowing it to fester, but I sometimes go to the other extreme and "let everyone have it"! I've gotten much better but I struggle to remember that Satan is the enemy and not the person (or thing) that appears to be attacking me.

Well, Gabriel should be starting his procedure about now. I pray our Father shows His favor on that little boy like no one else can. I pray for peace and comfort for the family and 100% complete healing for Gabriel.

Be Blessed Ladies

Kelly

Thanks for all your insight today all, God has really been speaking to me this week about forgiveness (actually all of the beatitudes in Luke), and here it is again.
I have a father who, I assume, is very angry with me for something I did and hasn't spoken to me - other than to tell me he doesn't want anything to do with me - in about 7 years. And I've been really upset at the injustice of that situation, I don't even really know what I did and yet I can't even do anything to 'make it right'. But the lesson I'm learning right now is that all I CAN do is forgive him, regardless of whether I can EVER make it right - that I where I end and God begins. And beyond forgiving him, I need to forgive others who I hold responsible as accessories in the situation. I feel my father had his own version of Jonadab, if you will, and I have a harder time forgiving them than I do him. Praise my heavenly Father for his grace in softening my heart and never stopping his pursuit of me.

I also noted the lack of action on David's part and wondered why, but maybe he has accepted that his legacy is tainted because of his sin with Bathsheba. Not that that excuses it, I still thought he was being lazy and not holding his offspring accountable or asserting loving discipline, even in light of his own sin. Pride?

Lots to think about as I head out to my day.

Praying for Gabriel.

:)

Runner Mom, the notes in my study Bible said that Absalom probably named his daughter 'Tamar' partly out of love for his sister and partly to keep the memory and bitterness of his brother's sin alive. He wanted everyone to remember the wrong done to Tamar just as he dwelled on it, and maybe to make it more acceptable to others when he exacted the revenge he spent so long planning.

Morgen, my Bible notes also say that it couldn't have been love that Amnon felt for Tamar, because love is patient, kind, it protects, etc., 1 Cor. 13. The notes say that it was instead lust, which someone pointed out, because lust often masquerades as love but intead is self-serving, self-satisfying, impatient, etc; that if someone in 'love' can't wait, that person is really in 'lust,' which often disappears as soon as it is indulged.

The 'love turned to hate' thing really stuck with me this morning, especially in tandem with Wendy's comments from yesterday about what we 'deserve.' No, I haven't been raped, although I was stalked and can identify with that part of Tamar's fear and think she should've been allowed to talk, but ... how often do I think that I 'love' that piece of chocolate and 'need' to have it? 'Deserve' it because I worked out or it's a special occasion, only to 'hate' myself as soon as I swallow because I know it wasn't good for me? Don't I rationalize other things the same way when that 'need' is upon me - to be on time, to snap because I've had a bad day, etc., basically being yucky to others because MY agenda is more important? I'm not guilty of rape, but I AM guilty of being very, very self-centered and greedy. Lots of work to be done here.

Grace and Peace, for the past two weeks or so I've felt the need to get out and walk some nights - I even went running once! I haven't really done that since college, but suddenly I feel the need to go MOVE and I know it's totally God. I wish I were good at it! but am hoping my feeble efforts will lead wherever He wants me. I'm hoping to save for an elliptical this fall - I actually like those!

Blogger Amy said...

Oh, PS - About David's lack of discipline for his sons ... someone said that they thought maybe he couldn't speak out because he was guilty of sexual sin, as well, and maybe that's why he didn't, but maybe that's ALSO why he SHOULD have. Did any of your parents ever tell you about their mistakes and their consequences and tell you not to do what they did? I made tons of my own mistakes, but after hearing all about the mistakes of my parents and grandparents when they were being rebellious teens, I never wanted to do any of those things! Maybe, like Wendy's friend Wendy, we should be more open about the bad things that happen in our lives, and instead of covering them up like David tried to do, we should share what happened and how God was able to use that in our lives - at least what we learned from the experience - as a witness to those around us.

Okay, really, I'm done now. :-)

Praying for baby Gabriel and Lidania and our empty nesters! :-)

Ladies I don't have a lot of time today. A group of my friends and I went down to a visitation for another one of our friend's grandmothers and I have to get back off here to go get my son from school shortly. I wanted to say that my prayers are with our sweet baby Gabriel today and to comment to Amy.

Amy, I think you are right about us sharing with our kids. My son is too little to know about all the things that happened to me as a kid and the subsequent choices I made into my teens and 20s. But I have told him that Mommy loves Jesus with her whole heart and there was a time she didn't and that life is so much better when you do and that I want him to follow Jesus always. I have told him that some not nice things have happened to Mommy and Mommy made some bad choices that I will tell him about when he gets older. I think he needs to know my story. I think he needs to know not what to do so he can made the right choices. I can tell you all firsthand that when you keep quiet you waste away. Your inner self is destroyed. Keeping my past inside about destroyed me and I am so thankful that God did not sweep my life away, but He devised a way to bring me back to Him where I was so separated. I will live the rest of my life in thanksgiving and serving Him faithfully each and every day.

I love You Jesus! Thank You that You can heal us when these types of things happen and we can be restored.

Olivia, praying for the mending of the relationship between you and your father. (((HUGS)))

So thankful that we have our Jesus who fills our lack and our need (thanks, Lysa TerKeurst). I also noticed that a lot of us picked this verse: "But God does not just sweep life away; instead, he devises ways to bring us back when we have been separated from him." It is such a comfort that with God, nothing is ever wasted. Every hurt, every pain, every experience He can use to bring glory to Him - if we let Him.

{Totally Off topic: Amy, My urge to walk has been for two weeks too! Weird, huh? I have seen those elliptical machines. I heard they're really good for those with knee problems I hurt mine from a rollerblading incident - before I even made it out of the garage. Fail! :D The machines pretty expensive (and I'm saving whatever $ is leftover after paying for DS1's college tuition to get the Logos 4 bible software - drool). I'm just walking because it's free. Also nice to enjoy our weather - I believe that's what we pay for in So Cal.}

Brandee, I can't wait to visit your blog to read about the Beth Moore event. See you there!

Brandee, I was hoping that someone would tell about the Beth Moore event. I'm heading over! ;-)

Grace and Peace, it would be years before I could afford a NEW elliptical, but there's a used sports store in Durham that has them for much more reasonable prices. I'm shooting for one of them. In the meantime, I'm using my exercise DVDs, walking when the pollen isn't too bad, and I got a free treadmill last week from freecycle that I'm trying out. Suddenly, I want to exercise constantly! This is NOT like me - but I'm trying to go with it in the hopes that this will be the NEW me!

I've gone through similar cituations that Tamar went through. It wasn't as bad as what Tamar or even Wendy Blight went through. It started with my mother when I was a child. I kept it to myself for at least 30 years. Because I never talked about it I let things like this keep happening to me with men in my late teenage years and young adult years. I kept all of it to myself for many years until last year when I told my Spiritual mom. She was not happy at all to hear how I had been treated. It's hard for me to feel completely healed from these things. I do plan on reading Wendy Blight's book.

Lori, you wanted to know how things are going. Things are going well but I haven't been able to get help with things I needed to get done. Today we have my sister's dog, a vizsla (Hungarian Bird Dog), And as I'm trying to read the comments he is up in my face.

Hi everyone,

This is my first time commenting, but the reading spoke to my heart today. My heart broke on 2 Sam 13:39 "And King David......longed to be reunited with his son Absalom."

Right now we are going through issues with our 16 y/o son, which is breaking our hearts. At one time he was very close to his father, today he is more and more becoming a stranger. He is involved with a non-christian girlfriend. Her morals are next to non-existant, and he is greatly influenced by her. Has anyone else gone through anything like this?

And then I read the verse how God devises ways to bring us back when we have been separeted from him. I highlighted that verse last year, but it leapt off the page to me today. That is my prayer today.

Thanks for listening,

Franny

So MUCH transparency today is right!
Olivia: I feel your pain cuz my relationship with my dad is not good. Hang in there and thank the Lord He is the perfect Father.

Amy: You touched on a subject I have OFTEN thought. I constantly tell my kids my mistakes growing up and about the things I would do differently if I could. I have too many friends who think because they did it that their kids will automatically do the same things, so they give them a "license" to go ahead. I do not get that way of thinking.

Jen-Ren... I am so sorry for what you had to endure growing up. Keep clinging to God; and remember, vengence is His...and I wouldn't want to be on the other end of that deal!

Franny - thank you for sharing such a hard thing you are going thru. I heard a good message today on "Prodigals" and the speaker reminded the listener, that, "God, Who began a good work in you (your son) will be faithful to complete it". The wanderers who are believers WILL be drawn back by God. He promises it in His word. Pray, pray, pray! And now we have the privledge of joining you in praying for your 16 year old son.

I am feeling close to all you wonderful women in this circle of faith. I am able to follow, but it has been a challenge on an iPod! I am praying right along with you for Gabriel and the accident victims, and for all the families, moms, young or experienced, with their chaos or emptiness.

About comments from yesterday... One of the lessons I have learned in my short 60 years is that there can't be room for something new and good if we don't let go of something else. This goes for possessions, friendships, hobbies, time, even prayer and studies!!! I had to give up stuff to keep up this journey with you and it has definitely been a good trade!...

...When each of my 5 children left home, our relationship was at a point where we all needed more space-- physical and emotional-- to grow. I would tell them this is God's way of giving them the push to leave and giving us the permission to let go. Our kids need to be released with our blessing and love so they can fulfill their own special purposes in this world, and so we can continue with ours. We mourn the loss of what was, but celebrate what will be!! But unlike a kite, your child will come back-- with a new perspective, a new respect and a new appreciation for mom. The heartache eases. And by the fifth one, well, it's mostly celebration!

Today there were such sad and tragic goings-on in David's family-- every family has its own secrets to rise above, even the king's. And especially because it involves family, it can be that much harder to come to grips and try to forgive.

Who can understand why Amnon believed he had the right to plot and steal away the virtue and future of Tamar by raping her? This evil was not love, it was selfish control. Such a mindset devalues and objectifies another person's life. I volunteer with victims of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. They lose so much more than we can imagine. But how uplifting it is to see these precious women, with the right support, grow and heal to become empowered and strong! I don't know how the life of Tamar played out, but I would guess that in the OT, one was destined to be a victim and not a survivor. I felt so sorry for her. Sharing and support are tools of healing, and too many women live in a prison of silence. Thank you Wendy for encouraging dialogue.

For several days we have been away from home caring for two preschool grandbabies. Parents are in Chicago consulting with an expert in a condition called Langerhan's cell histiocytosis. It is extremely rare and there is very little research, so of course there is much uncertainty. In Feb., doctors scanned my son-in-law TJ for cell lesions throughout his body, and coincidentally found an inoperable brain tumor (thank you Lord!) and did radiation to stop the growth. Now he may need chemotherapy for the first condition. So I please ask for a little prayer for this young family who has been through so much this year and also for the doctors who will make important decisions for them. Thank you.

Welcome to the new members of our posting group! Thank you for your sharing and insight.

Blessings and prayers for all,
Jacque

Hello Ladies my post is a little late but I insist on catching up. The theme of the vlog is very important and pertinent to my walk. It is so easy to become angry at someone and let it fester and nurse this anger....so much wasted Energy!!! The reading allows me to be reminded of the importance of dealing with anger by allowing God's word to transform me and forgive the person who has angered me instead of keeping quiet to avoid a confrontation.
Have a great day!! Off to the next reading :) and my prayers go out to baby Gabriel.
