Nana turned 86 yesterday not 88. We had a lovely celebration complete with a cake with purple icing and light purple roses. She loves purple! Here are some pictures from our day.
Thanks for letting me share life with you all. Have a great weekend. I'll be hanging out at home...you know how much I like doing that. The weekend will be full of cleaning, washing, and some writing too,

Hey Wendy, Thanks for sharing Nana with us. The pictures just make me want to get in there and hug her too. I had a "grandmother" who lived across the street where I grew up. My mother parents died before I was born and my dads parents lived out of town. So she was the one who was truly Grandmother to me. Her kids and grandkids all called her that and so did I. She always remembered my birthdays and holidays and could make the best pound cake you ever put in your mouth. She was one more cook - the typical grandmother cook. Every time I bake her recipe for pound cake I think of her. Hope you have a great week-end. Am praying for you girl.

Wendy your Nana is a woman after my own heart. Purple is my favorite color as well. That cake sounded very pretty.
My day might be full of cleaning and I also need to do laundry.

So many seemingly trivial interactions between two people present us with a choice:
Do we pass along a little spark of love and humanity or do we pass up those opportunities and leave the world a little bit colder in the process?

Today’s reading was very good, girls!!!
Nehemiah, was no common man – honorable and dependable, we can see how he was hand-placed here by God, for such a time as this. Upon receiving the report of the loss of faith in Jerusalem he became crushed with sorrow. Necessary details were taken care of so that he could return home to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls. Problem after problem was encountered. And, what do we see this man of God doing?
…continually praying
…fasting
…clinging to his faith in the Word of god
This man knew that the battle was the LORD’s.
This man knew that God is the One who lets opposition come about.
This man knew there was no reason to panic or fret.
In each of our trials, in each of our sufferings, - oh that we could follow this man of God’s way! Rather than worry, see the Lord, to learn what He expects of us in order to have our prayers answered. Investigate our heart’s dear Lord.
By now, we should be learning to expect attacks – we know that they are placed there to keep us from finishing what God desires. (Neh. 4:1,2) We need to protect the oppressed (chapter 5), whenever we can, and we must stay awake: the enemy is going to bombard us with his lies, and slimy schemes. (4:7-11) He’s never going to go away. Never.
Also, notice how Nehemiah did not judge the people surrounding Jerusalem that were not choosing to make the situation better. What did he wake up and set out to do? Love, rather than judge! Also, he included himself in his prayers as if he was as much of a sinner as those around him. The humbleness of this man brings me to my knees!
Look what God allowed them to accomplish: “The wall was finished – just fifty-two days after [they] had begun” (Nehemiah 6:15). (!) “I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will” (John 5:30).
Praying, - girls, & seeking God, what is HIS will for my day – watching out for the enemy, surely he’ll be in the mix, too! He tends to try to get my feathers ruffled, at least once/day! Thank goodness for Jesus! He’s ALWAYS with me, keeping my feet planted on the straight and narrow path, - Lord, today, I want to be even closer to You. Reveal yourself to me today in a fresh and living way! Lots of love coming your way! Lori

Happy Birthay Nana!
My Grandma just celebrated her number 93rd Birthday. We got to go see her and love on her about a week before her Birthday and I made her a little lap Quilt. On her Birthday however my Aunt who takes care of her took her on a picnic in the park with some of her friends from church. That's what she wanted, so that's what she got.
Haven't done the reading yet but I've done my Daniel prayers. Today is the first day in a new Quilting class I am starting so I might need to do the reading when I get home.

Nehemiah is the picture of determination and obedience in completing the work of rebuilding the wall. He prayed, fasted, and encouraged the workers to rely on the Lord for strength and protection. Half were guarding while the other half worked. They were armed with weapons and on the watch for the enemy attacks. The Lord gives us His armor in Ephesians 6 and as we dress each day we are to put on His armor that we may stand against the attacks of the evil one. May we be armed and ready when the trials and attacks come our way.
Michelle, loved the way the praying mantis was used in your class. God uses even His creation to bring answers to prayers!

I liked the way that the people of Jerusalem faced the threat of attack together: by praying first, working hard, and working together. It doesn't sound like they worried too much about it, just took those appropriate actions and let God handle the rest. I also liked how those working worked with one hand on their load and one hand on their weapon. Isn't that how we should be in this world - with one hand on the task before us and our mind remembering God and His words to us?
Going to a birthday party for a friend's daughter this evening and I still have to sew her present - I need to get busy! Looks like Nana had a great birthday. :-)

I spent the day with Beth Moore! Via simulcast from Chicago. Wow! Has that woman been given a gift? I feel like my tank is refilled, I am energized, and my brain has lots to think about.
Her whole message was on Proverbs 31:26 "She opens her mouth with wisdom and on her tongue is the law of kindness"
She showed us how kindness is Biblical. She drew such depths out of scripture and told such wonderful stories, I cannot praise her enough. God has gifted her, she knows it is all from Him, and she thanks Him from the bottom of her heart! If anyone gets a chance to hear Beth Moore...take it!

What an exciting read this was today, and I searched a little deeper on the meaning of the various gates. I stumbled upon a message from Jon Courson, and listened intently to his explanation of the divine order of the gates.
The Sheep Gate: where our walk begins, when we recognize Jesus as the Lamb that takes away our sin.
The Fish Gate: where we begin to serve Him and become fishers of men.
The Old Gate: getting back into the old, solid, teachings of the word of God
The Valley Gate: the difficulties that we experience are all part of our character development.
The Dung Gate: repenting of our short comings, confession mode
Fountain Gate: recognizing our need for more power of the Holy Spirit, a deeper work
Water Gate: where the word is preached with the fulness of the Spirit working in you; preaching and sharing with authority
Horse GAte: type of rapture and return of christians with Jesus Christ
East Gate: where the Lord shall enter in with His authority
Inspection Gate: Courson called it the judgement gate, where we will be judged for our service to God
And then talks briefly about the Sheep Gate again, everything starts and ends with the Lamb of God.
The Gates show the order of the Christians experiences as you progress through your spiritual walk.
Wow, I had never heard teaching like that before, and it really touched my heart today!
At the beginning of his message he made the quote "No one ever outgrows scripture, the book simply widens and deepens with our years." I am finding it richer and deeper the more we dig through the layers. Glad to have hung in this long through it all, eagerly looking forward to the NT.

Dear Sisters ~ Happy early Sabbath, ya’ll! Even tho it’s still Saturday I’m anticipating a day of rest tomorrow! The readings for this weekend have been so good! Morgen, your enthusiasm is coming right through the screen! I agree,Beth always leaves a person which much to ponder over!
If we ever find ourselves in disbelief, let’s open up God’s Word, are review and ponder over Nehemiah 9! Surely, after reading this we will refocus our thoughts and know without a doubt: “Our God, the great and mighty and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of unfailing love” has a specific and purposeful plan for our life! (9:32)
You alone are the LORD.
You made the skies and the heavens and all the stars.
You made the earth and the seas and everything in them.
You preserve them all, and the angels of heaven worship you.
You are the LORD God, who chose Abram and brought him form Ur of the Chaldeans and renamed him Abraham.

Very humbly, I present myself to you, - thank you with all of my heart for your mercy, which without a doubt, is not deserved.
Sisters’ let’s honor Him today; let’s step out of our busyness and seek Him. “He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams” (Psalm 23:2). May we fill ourselves up with Him today and be rested and renewed! Spending time alone with the Lord, brings peace.

Good Morning GIGs! Happy birthday to Nana. I miss my Nana like crazy - she died when she was 93, 3 years ago. She was the Nana who was still getting on the floor to play with her great-grandkids, who kept the church nursery, who cooked amazing meals, etc. Nana's are the BEST!!
I'm struggling to keep up w/ the comments and the vlogs now that I'm back to school, y'all, but I am keeping up with the reading, and for that, I am happy. Amy, I liked your thought from yesterday - going about our business with one hand in the "world" and the other hand on our "weapons" - the Bible, God's word, the Holy Spirit. I will be thinking that way as I begin my week of teaching this week.
Franny - I also enjoyed reading about the gates. Wow - just when I think that there is something so random in the Bible as a fish gate, a water gate, etc. God comes along and (surprise!) has a purpose and a deeper meaning. Love it!
One line popped out at me today: Nehemiah 8:12 "So the people went away to eat and drink at a festive meal, to share gifts of food, and to celebrate with great joy because they had heard God’s words and understood them." Especially the last part - let us celebrate with joy today because God has shared his word with us and gives us understanding. Hallelujah! Have a wonderful Sunday!

This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don't be dejected and sad, for the joy of the LORD is your strength!
When we are in his Word, every day is a sacred day when we can feel the job of His strength. As many of you have commented this weekend, the more we get into it, the more we crave it, the more we understand it, the more peace and joy we have, and the more we use His Word minute-by-minute. I have literally felt the Lord directing me this week at home and at school to "say this", or "don't say what is on your mind" or "keep thinking - there is another way that would be better." It's been a WOW week for me, all glory and honor to Him, our mighty God!!

Here is an update on Ryan, my good friend's 22-year-old nephew (Down's Syndrome) going through chemotherapy. His spirits remain very strong! He and his father both got buzz cuts at the barber this week, since he will probably lose his hair. Part of my prayers for Ryan are for human angels to be placed along this rocky path to help smooth it out. Now I'm beginning to think Ryan may be the human angel God is putting in other cancer patient's paths to help smooth their way!
As I pray our kids list, and also the requested prayers for the many health needs in Wendy Land, I wonder how these dear ones are doing? Any updates, Sisters?

I have also felt very strongly this week the direction of The Lord.It has been a "WOW" week for myself also. He is working in us and it is evident. I had more communion with him this week it seems than before. Yesterday was almost through out the whole day,I wss amazed as I thought back last night.
Jehovah is constantly Faithful.

Blessed Sunday all!
I have resumed my regular volunteer activities and received my dose of lovin from my special people. All those who could sign their names gave me a Welcome Back card and lots of hugs and smiles.
I attended a meeting of the Guardian Angels for Special Pops and we have so many plans for the year. The program is co-funded by the City whose budget is shot so many opportunities for we "angels" to roll up our sleeves for fund raising. Did I ever mention I am also a clown? I am going to appear at a couple functions as Dixie Belle. DB is a country gal with bonnet and ragged fishnet stockings and gold sneakers. : )
I have read ahead and finished the OT. My plan is to summarize how this study specifically has changed my life - but I am feeling a little under the weather today so will think more about it and write this week. What we have to remember this week, as we turn just one page into the NT, 400 years have elapsed. All those years with no record of prophets or miracles, apparently from a silent God. But the stage was being set for the Glory of God to manifest itself to a world who now had a common language, commerce, transportation to take that Word all over the known world.
When we become impatient on waiting for the Lord to act or speak, we must think of all those generations in 400 years in which there was apparently silence or nothing recorded. So some people kept believing and waiting - though they had not seen God as some had in prior generations. Lord make us patient people too as we wait for your next coming. Amen

Dixie, what wonderful news that you have returned to your volunteer work. I bet you couldn't count the smiles that came your way!! And we know you have a great sense of humor, but I never imagined you are a CLOWN. Your awesomeness just astounds [smile]. You also make a very excellent point about the 400 year lapse. Good to keep in mind as we eagerly await Friday's change in our reading.
