And the giant saga continues.
I thought the giant I was to slay was a major technical difficulty I was experiencing before my 1:15 breakout session at She Speaks. As me and two friends said "Amen" in the prayer room, one of our Techno Geniuses, Wayne walked with the green light on the problem. Giant one, down for the count.
"The techno problem must not have been my giant," I said to my roomie Wendy, after I told her of the giant that escaped from captivity through my mouth after the Saturday evening message. (Jealousy-read my previous post.) So now we have two giants down for the count with one rock. Little did I know that I would face yet another giant Tuesday afternoon.
I got the call around 4:00. The diagnosis: cancer. Not me, my dad. The word still stuns me. Many thoughts ran through my mind. One, call Christie, the bestest friend in the world. So I did. No answer. I moved quickly to my closet and fell to my knees to pray. The second thought: call 704-849-2270. (That is number for the Proverbs office-the home of my second family.) I could only get a few words out when I spoke LeAnn. I asked her to call the family (our office staff) in to pray. Because I have been involved in one of these amazing, Spirit driven, God ordained sessions, I knew what was going to happen.
These incredible women of faith gathered and interceded on my behalf, while I knelt in my closet where I had made the call earlier, I waited. I waited for the overwhelming Jesus tinkles of peace. You have probably experienced them before. I was not leaving until I had them. It was only moments later I had the strength to move and the peace to leave. The Peace has stayed with me. He (the Peace) has not left my side.
Tonight as I was cleaning the supper dishes I asked the Lord, "How many giants can I kill with the one rock?" This was His precious reply to my heart, "I am your Rock. The only one your need. I am enough to slay all your giants." Of course there is a word to back that up: " He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken." (Psalm 62:2)
I don't write this to plead for help suggestions on dealing with cancer or for you to feel sorry for me. I had to write. I was compelled by the Spirit to share. David gathered 5 stones. (I am not sure the significance of 5- I will have to look that up later.) But it only took one rock to slay the giant. The giant that was HUGE and overshadowed him. If you are facing a giant, you only need one rock, The Rock. He is enough. He is sufficient. He is your fortress and you, though weary for the battle, will NOT be shaken!
Praise you Jesus!!!! I love you so!!! My Prince of Peace!!!

Wendy,
I am can just feel your pain through your words. Dear sister I will get on my knees with you and pray for wisdom, grace and mercy. As I read your comment about asking the Lord “how many giants must you kill with one stone”? It hit me. it is almost the same thing he says to me. “You can take down as many as you can, plus one”. You are right; he is our rock and certainly enough.
I have slayed many giants in my life, but not alone. I know there will be many more. Sometimes it seems that they are all in one line just waiting. But God has guided that rock every time. Rest in him sweet sister in Christ, rest in his mighty arms.
Hugs and prayers,
Diane
Thursday morning,
Wendy I am still praying for you and your dad.
Fall into his mighty arms

This is awesome -- after Lysa's session Friday night on David killing Goliath, I started studying 1 Samuel this week. Your realization that we only need 1 Rock is so very true.
As for the other 4 rocks David picked up? I believe my husband when teaching Children's Church discovered that Goliath had 4 brothers. I think David was just being prepared for them.
I'll be praying for you and your father. Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you personally this weekend. I enjoy your writing very much!
Wendy, I will pray for your Dad and your family. Your eyes are fixed on The Rock. You know where to Look.( Isaiah 26:3) Lean on that rock. Did Lisa B. in her post say, I enjoy your writing very much? Yes, I believe I read that. Confirmation, Confirmation, Confirmation...write that down. Stand on that rock with the words He is speaking to you through others.

Hi Wendy,
Just wanted you to know that I am praying for you and your Dad. I pray you continue to feel God's loving peace and presence.
Blessings,
Pearls
Wendy:
Cancer is NOTHING compared to our Jesus! I pray that when you speak words of comfort to your Dad, Jesus' words flow right out of your mouth.
I was at two of your sessions, and both were great. I am a techno-geek, but you know, no one has to be perfect. In fact, it's a little comforting to know that you guys are human...I may not have said that right, but you know what I mean.
I've been following the rock story. One of the women in my speaker's evaluation group handed us rocks. I had a hard time trying to figure out why. You've given me some clarity, and I could certainly use a stone to toss at a giant.
It's good to know that all I have to do it toss it. God carries it from there.
Hey, I know you have a great group of prayer warriors there. Your sweet daddy is in God's hands. And to think of the prayers lifted up for him...wow. Take comfort in that, girlfriend.

Wendy,
A note of encouragement:
God is the one who slays the giant and He gave you a stone as a palpable reminder of Him, something of His that can literally take hold of. In picking up the stone, you are being obedient to God, as David was. You are taking action.
Think about this: when Goliath fell, he fell forward, facedown. Physics tells us that a person hit from the front (in the forehead) would fall backwards. It's just proof to me that God killed the giant, not David's stone. David's stone represented obedience to God's command.
David wrote about Jesus as the stone that the builders rejected. He used that same Hebrew word for stone. Jesus is the stone you pick up. (Jesus certainly represented obedience!)
And you, dear sister, can have peace and confidence in knowing that you, in obedience, hold onto Jesus while God slays the giant.
"'It's not by might nor by power by by my spirit', says the Lord." Zech 4:6 That's almost identical to what David said in I Sam 17:47.
I pray for you and your dad even right now. I pray that God will show Himself in this situation. I pray for your peace. I pray that God uses this for His glory. I pray that you will be able to "listen and believe the Voice of Truth!" (Casting Crowns)
Onward,
Your soldier sister,
Lisa R.
Wendy,
Sweetie, I'm so sorry for this unexpected news for you and your family.
Cling to "The Rock" that is your shelter and your defense.
HE will provide everything each of you needs in order to walk this road HE has prepared for you.
and HE will give each of you many lessons to apply in order to encourage someone else in the future.
Standing in the gap for you,
Zoe
Hi Wendy,
I am so sorry to hear this news. Know that I will say a prayer for and your Dad.
Bridget
Wendy,
Even though the conference is done, I am still praying for you. I only wish I could have been at the office to join in on that session.
Blessings,
Wendy,
Thanks for being obedient to that compulsion to write about what was going on in your heart - you are a sweet blessing. I'm praying for you and your dad.
In Him,
Sam
I'm sorry to hear about your dad. And, I'm glad you share it with us. Your whole family is in my prayers.
God bless you, my sweet friend.
Dear Wendy:
You are so on my heart and your dad and family are in my prayers. That rock from your friend certainly came in perfect timing from Him to remind you He is your strength and sufficiency.
Love you.
Sharon
Hey Wendy,
I was mistaken in my previous comment. Goliath had 4 sons, not brothers. David picked up 5 stones because he knew he'd kill Goliath with the first one and thought his sons may come to fight him. In 2 Samuel 21:22 the Bible talks about the 4 sons of the giant of Gath.
Still praying for you and your father!
Awesome post, Wendy. Thanks for sharing in the midst of your trial. I'm praying for you and your family.
You continue to amaze me. You inspire me with every word. Every time I read your blog I leave with a nugget of wisdom... and I'm so much older than you!
Love you,
LeAnn
Prayers for you and your family.
You have everything that you need to handle this giant.

Wendy,
Girlfriend, you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Many blessings!
Love, Susan

Hi Wendy,
My heart is hurting for you and the diagnosis of your father's cancer. "Cancer." What a big, scary word. But, as you well know, our God is so much bigger. Just continue to do what you are doing, and give it all to Him. He is able to do immeasurably more than we can hope for or even ask for. You and your family have my prayers.
