This is our second full day of reading that deals with ceremonial law. And I don't know about you but with every word I read I am more and more grateful for my sacrificial Lamb, Jesus. Because of His shed blood on the cross and His willingness to bear the sins of all humanity we don't have to participate in ceremonial offerings. The final sacrificial ceremony was held on a altar called Golgotha and with the death of the sacrifice, the curtain separating man from the Holy of Holies was torn and we can approach the throne of God with boldness and confidence. AMEN AMEN AMEN! Can I get a witness?
Interesting and symbolic in today's reading was how the sacrifice of the sin and guilt offerings was handled. Unlike the burnt and peace offering that were to be burned completely on the altar, only the fat around the internal organs, kidneys, loins, and lobe of the liver were to be burned. The remainder of the sacrifice could not burned, eaten or used for anything. It was removed from the camp, taken to the place were the altar ashes were disposed. The removal of the carcass was symbolic of how our sins should be removed from the presence of the holiness of God before we make our offering to Him.
I read in one of my commentaries of the order of sacrifices. When more than one kind of offering was presented the procedure usually followed this order:
- Sin or trespass offering
- Burnt offering
- Peace and Grain offering (along with a drink offering)
Though we don't practice ceremonial offerings there is much we can glean from the order of offerings as it relates to our bold and confident approach to the throne. We must deal with our junk first. In order to present ourselves to the Lord pure without our blemish we should confess our trespasses. (Isn't there a prayer that mentions this? Smile) When we purify ourselves and allow the Holy Spirit to cleanse us of our sin(s) we can confidently climb on the altar of the Lord, ready to obey with joy what He asks of us.

Thanking Him for my sacrificial Lamb today too.
I was drawn to the "unintentional sin" today. So often I am on my knees because I have, without intent, disobeyed the Lord or hurt another. It wasn't planned, it just happened.
I find myself often praying from Psalm 139, "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

Did you notice also the "when it (the sin) is discovered? (my paraphrase)
So often, without intent and sometimes without our knowledge hurt others or disappoint the Lord.
I love that prayer in Psalm 139.
Oh yes I am so so so thankful for Jesus. It would be hard not to fall into the unintentional sin by not doing the right sacrifice for the right sin. Not really but wow just to remember it all. Then the other things that struck me is how busy the priests must be if they are handling the offerings of everybodies sin, how did they keep up with it all. Then the other thing that struck me is it talks about taking the ashes out, but how does that work with the blood? It said to pour the blood out at the base of the alter, (and on the alter) was there a container or on the ground, did they ever take it out or was the blood always there? (Did it stink?) Then thirdly, (is that a word) If they moved how did they keep the fire going? It says never let it go out,(Lev 6:18)did they keep an ember of the original as they traveled and then started a big one again. I'll go check out the sites you gave us and read some comentaries... I'm so Thankful I have Jesus. Thank you too Wendy for helping us stay accountable. It's nice that you have gone thru the chrono a few times and we get the benefits of your experiences.

I too am very happy that Jesus is my High Priest! He has made the Old Covenant obsolete and has given us a New Covenant. That is something to praise the Lord about all day long! I love Psalms 150.
When we sin and we don't even know it - unintentional sin, it is sin to God still. I've prayed for Him to show me the sin on my heart. He's good to show us; even if we have to suffer through it. Recently, He showed me an area on my heart that I was completely unaware of. I'm still praising Him for showing me and allowing me to get closer to Him. In everything I do I want to give Him the glory!!!!
So much to praise the Lord about today!

I too am so thankful that Jesus became the sacrificial lamb for our sins and also took the position of high priest and intercedes for us always. As Paul says in Ramns 4:14-16; "14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. 16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."
Thanks be to God! Also read Romans 5: 1-8; it talks about the choosing process for high priests and contrasts it to how Jesus was chosen.

Good Morning all,
As I read and listened to the scriptures over the past few days, I am encouraged that our lives have been simplified through Jesus Christ being our sacrificial lamb. I can't imagine going through those ceremonies each time an unintentional sin was committed beacause the mere fact that they were unintentional means that they may have been committed on an hourly basis!!! Wow!!! All the more reason to choose Christ and serve him for the rest of our lives here on earth!!

I am so thankful that Jesus is our sacrifice---once and for all. As I was reading all the rules and regulations, I could feel myself getting anxious thinking--"What if I would forget how and what to do"
The beauty of reading this now is that it puts things into perspective. I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that I could never keep these laws perfectly--and it just points me back to the beauty of Jesus's sacrifice.
Praising God with all you ladies, and praying, like Joy, that God will search my heart and reveal the ways I am sinning without being aware.

I have been in discussions before about forgiveness of sins. Do we have to repent and ask for forgivness before it is given to us? Or because Jesus has done it all, we are forgiven already? I really get confused on that one.
Unintentional sins...wow. Hourly is right on Chanan! I would think the Isrealites would be spending all their time doing sacrifices!
This sharing of thoughts really helps me understand and ponder more on my Bible. Thank you all.

Great question about forgiveness. Jesus did die for our past, present, and future sins. When we seek God's forgiveness it is for us,our state of mind, condition of heart. It keeps us in a place of submission to His leadership in our lives. It also removes any opportunity for satan, the deceiver to play mind and heart games with us.
Asking for forgiveness is for benefit.
Absolutely praising Jesus for his
sacrifice! What complete unselfishness on his part!!! He knew
that I needed him as my perfect lamb. Can you imagine with all the things going on today trying to keep up with all those sacrifices? I would get to the altar with the wrong one and have to go back and
"re-do" over & over. God is sooooo

I too felt anxious after reading today's scripture. Thank God we don't have to worry about "if we are doing everything right) I must admit today was a hard day for me to get into...but thank you all for your insights to help carry me through!
