"This what the LORD says, "Be just and fair to all. Do what is right and good, for I am coming soon to rescue you and to display my righteousness among you."
Isaiah 56:1
Isaiah 56:1
My Take Aways
Something Old:
Doing what is right when it is difficult doesn't require my understanding, it requires my obedience.
Something New:
God will rescue me from the tough places and will do so with a display of His righteousness. His rescue displaying His righteousness is so much better than anything I could come up with.
Something to Do:
Handle my tough situation the way God expects me to: by being just and fair to all and by doing what is right and good.

Dear Wendy,
Thank you for your post today! I am praying for She Speaks this year that you all will accomplish the Lord's purpose and that many more will participate with God as He fulfills Isaiah 55:11 - "send [the Word] out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it."
I too had a hard time picking one nugget from today's reading because it was so rich! I have to stop on Isaiah 53 though. I memorized this whole chapter during Lent in 2009. I was also taught, at the time, that this chapter is a key chapter for converting Jews to Christ (from Jews for Jesus). They read this chapter and see (in their rearview mirror Michelle) the truth. Doesn't that give you goosebumps? The Lord is returning His precious possession to Israel!
I also want to pause on Isaiah 57:1-2. These verses Dixie gave me when my Sister-in-law lost her battle with cancer earlier this year (at the tender age of 34). They gave me and my brother much comfort. Thank you Dixie, you don't know how much you have enriched my walk!
Thank you Jessica for your discussion on adversity bringing forth gems. Did you see how the Lord will rebuild Jerusalem (and us) with precious jewels? I thought of your remarks when I read that part... :)
Lastly, I noted places in today's reading where the conversion of the gentiles is foretold:
Isaiah 52:15, 54:3, 55:5, 56:3-8. These verses, in addition to confirming us to be a part of His people, also includes us in His instruction and His blessings. So as Wendy said, "be fair to all. Do what is right and good... Blessed are all those who carefully do this." Amen
Happy Monday all!
Karen, Basel
Good morning figs.
I enjoyed our reading for today. There were a few verses that really jumped out at me.
Chapter 53:1-7 KJV
1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
How wonderful it is that Jesus took upon him all our iniquities.
Chapter 55:8-11 KJV
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
Because God's thoughts and ways are higher than our thoughts and ways he knows the out come of every test and trial we go through. We may not see the end and we may ask why we're going through something but God knows why and he knows the end. We often will say that we're going through a test or trial or a difficult time in our life. Sisters I'm happy to say that when we say we're going through this means we'll be coming out of whatever situation we're in.
Wendy whatever trial your going through at the moment you'll eventually be coming out of it.

Yes it's me again. I just wanted to say that I have no idea why my comment posted twice. sorry about that.
Morning FIG! I asked the Lord to help me get back on track with my morning routine; and He was faithful to answer and woke me at 5:10am! Thank You Lord!
Something Old: It's never old to read these words, but I noticed all of the references to Jesus. "There was nothing beautiful or majestic about His appearance"
"He was despised and rejected"
"Our weaknesses He carried"
"He died without descendants" (I like this one - disproves all those who claim Jesus had children with Mary Magdalene).
"He was pierced for our rebellion and crushed for our sins"
Praise Jesus!
Something New: In 54:1-2 when he speaks of "the desolate woman" I believe he refers to Isreal..and how she is to thrive. I love how God shows His passion for Isreal throughout the entire Bible.
Nugget: 57:18-21. When you are in Christ, even when in mourning there is praise and peace to be found. Those who reject Christ are restless and have no peace. So in a believer's lowest moment, he still can have peace. But in a non-believer's best moments, there is no peace to be found because the source they are plugged into is the wrong one.
Blessed Monday!
Morgen
ps...Wendy...I could hear the relief and peace in your voice today. I'm so glad that God is doing a good work in you with your situation.
Hey Morgen,
I can hear peace and releif in your post today too. Looks like the funk is lifting! Welcome back, you have been and still are in my prayers!
Karen
Good morning, GIGs,
Wow, Morgen, your prayers certainly were answered to get out of your "funk." Great post. God is so good ALL the time.
Karen, thank you once again for your insightful, well-thought-out post. You are top of the class, girlfriend, and you inspire me!
Jennifer Renee, I am specifically praying for fast movement among the 106 ahead of you as you wait for a new apartment! God can do it!
Jennifer in Iowa, travel mercies to you and have a wonderful vacation in Florida.
My nugget for today was the same as several already posted (55:8-9) so I will choose another.
(Isaiah 57: 1-2)
"Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time.
But no one seems to care or wonder why.
No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come.
For those who follow godly paths will rest in peace when they die."
This illuminates for me an aspect of God that I have often wondered about, and I have speculated to myself that perhaps the Lord is "rescuing" some by taking them Home earlier than WE think they should be taken. Conversely, sometimes He gives a very long life to those who are decidedly not godly. This weekend I read the Parable of the Wheat and Weeds (Matthew 13)which also helps us understand God's thinking on this matter. Indeed, His ways are waaaay higher than our ways!
Wendy and friends, I am claiming a blessing today and thanking all of you who pray for our childrens' list. My newlywed daughter now living in Tennessee has accepted a wonderful job offer. Beginning September 1, Lauren will be a speech/language therapist with a non-profit organization providing Early Intervention Services. She will work both in their nursery school and provide at-home therapy for infants through 3-year-olds who have speech delays due to Downs Syndrome, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, MD and other reasons. Thank you, Lord, for placing Lauren where You want her to be, according to the gifts You have given her, and Your plan for her life, in Jesus' name, Amen.
Peace and Gratitude,
Michelle in New England
I am so excited to have found this blog via Proverbs 31!! I have been trying to read through the bible on my own this year and have really been struggling with it lately. I'v been praying for help with this and I know that the Lord brought this blog to my attention to help me remain in His Word. I look forward to reading with yo all!
I just read your devotion, it was what I needed. I have been waiting and know what God was telling me. Needless to say, it was turned by humans. I still hear God saying that what he said was, but I also see as your devotion pointed out, God knows. And I have sought him more and more. I am beginning to see how it didn't happen yet, and have been beaten up by the people put in place, I see god showing me things I would have not. And just like how God changed David during the wait, He is changing me. Which is for better, even though it is hard. Thank you for your devotion
Good morning precious GIGs,
Karen, Jen Ren, Michelle, and Morgen, each of you shared the same Scriptures that I was drawn to and your posts were ritht on!
Wendy, today's teaching is just what I need today. I'm seeking the Lord about tough places right now and ask Him to show me the right and good way to handle them. I covet your prayers for these unspoken requests.
I treasure each of you and am thankful to be on this journey with you.
SAP for the She Speaks conference and the Proverbs 31 Ministry Team.
May His Light radiate through each of you.
Blessings,
Teeny
Morgan, what a powerful nugget- I just had to copy that down! Karen and Jennifer Renee, thank you, too for sharing.
Welcome Kristie!
Wendy, I had to stop the vlog several times this morning to write down the powerful words you were speaking.
My nugget: 55:11 - God's word will not return to Him empty; it will accomplish (produce fruit) what He desires. His word, planted in me, will bear fruit.
Have a great Monday all. Praying for the many needs; praising Him because He knows all about them and cares so much more about them. Praising Him, too, for answered prayers, for bringing us together for such an incredible time of sharing.
Gaylene
GIG's---Just a quick post as I have fifteen minutes to finish getting ready for work.
I struggled with both yesterday and today's reading. Not that there wasn't a nugget for me but that my mind would stay on His word. I would read and find my thoughts drifting to my search for a new place to live and if this is really God's will, to my finances and if I'm really giving them to God. I would pause, rebuke Satan and start in again. Alas, within a few minutes off my mind would go.
Please just keep me in your prayers today. As I told my Sunday School class yesterday (1st and 2nd graders) Ms.Jessica's mind is all a jumble!!!
Blessings
Jessica
Ohhhh forgot to say to Grace and Peace---Praise God for Lauren's job. It sounds as if the Lord put her right where He wants her and where she needs to be.
Welcome Kristie!
Thank you for your vlog today Wendy! I will "claim God's blessings today even during my times of adversity."
I am so very grateful for God's Word that I can lean on Him and receive the peace and comfort He provides!
Just wanted to let you know Wendy that I loved the waiting devotion!!! Thank you!
Michelle...God bless your daughter
Kristie...Welcome and glad you found us...
Jessica...Prayers for your situation
I just got home from vacation...the vlog does not seem to be working...I will work on that later...
So much in Isaiah today...If I have to choose one nugget for today it would probably be Is 55:3 "Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life" I will live today with my ears open...
Bless you all,
Sue in Nor Cal
Good Morning All,
Listen to me…..
Has me everyday noticing these words “Listen to me”….just going to sit and “Listen” today in his word and yours:
Days Prior:
Isaiah…
47:8 Listen to this,….. you pleasure-loving kingdom, living at ease and feeling secure. You say, ‘I am the only one, and there is not other. I will never be a widow or lose my children.’
48:1 “Listen to me,…. O family of Jacob, you who are called by the name of Israel and born into the family of Judah…..Listen,….you who take oaths in the name of the LORD and call on the God of Israel. You don’t keep your promises,
48:12 Listen to me,…..O family of Jacob, Israel my chosen one! I alone am God, the First and the Last.
48:16 Come closer, and listen to this. From the beginning I have told you plainly what would happen.” And now the Sovereign LORD and his Spirit have sent me with this message.
49:1 Listen to me, all you in distant lands! Pay attention, you who are far away! The LORD called me before my birth; from within the womb he called me by name.
51:1”Listen to me, all who hope for deliverance….all who seek the LORD! Consider the rock from which you were cut, the quarry from which you were mined.
51:4 “Listen to me, my people. Hear me, Israel, for my law will be proclaimed, and my justice will become a light to the nations.
51:7 “Listen to me, ….you who know right from wrong, you who cherish my law in your heearts. Do not be afraid of people’s scorn, nor fear their insults.
51:21But now listen to this, you afflicted ones who sit in a drunken stupor, though not from drinking wine.
Still today:
55:2 Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food.
55:3 Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make and everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David.
Are my ears wide open?
Listening,
Rhonda
Jennifer mine always posts twice also...have no idea why? I will usually go and delete one....alot of time if you notice there is one deleted after me that is usually me.

Dear Wendy,
Thank you for the vlog today, it was what I needed to hear regarding the request for our son and his gf.
There were many beautiful scriptures in this section. Jenn, thanks for printing out the KJV on Isaiah 53:1-7, it was so comforting to read the familiar words that I had memorized as a child.
I rested on 55:11b "It (the Word) will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it." The Gideons spoke at our service yesterday, perhaps that is why it was fresh in my mind. God's Word is alive, that has been shown to me so much this past year, thankful for that.
48:16, Rhonda, I loved the "come closer", that is where I want to be, closer.
Prayers for all,
Franny
Miss Jessica's mind is in "a jumble", ha ha ha. Lauren is my daughter, sweetie. Thanks for the comment.
Peace and Gratitude,
Michelle in New England
Michelle, I read your tribute to Lois/Mike yesterday. That was beautiful. Thank you for sharing that. The way God led you to the passage in Timothy with her name on it put a smile on my face. One of these days I hope you share the story of how she turned to "Mike." :)
Praise God for Lauren's job!
Morgen, I did not notice the "no descendants" part. Good catch, sister. Praising God that the funk has been lifted.
Rhonda, I like your "listen" list. I need to hear that.
Jekka, may your mind be unjumbled and replaced with the perfect peace that comes only from God.
Teeny, praying for your unspoken need
Welcome Kristie and to our new sistas!
There are a lot of nuggets in today's reading. I also caught Isaiah 57:1 "Good people pass away;
the godly often die before their time.
But no one seems to care or wonder why.
No one seems to understand
that God is protecting them from the evil to come."
Lately there has been a lot of children succumbing to cancer. This passage seems to answer our question of "why?" It is God's way of protecting them from experiencing the judgment that is coming. How compassionate is our God?
I love what is says in verse 2: For those who follow godly paths
will rest in peace when they die.
Contrast that with Isaiah 57:20 “But those who still reject me are like the restless sea,
which is never still
but continually churns up mud and dirt.
21 There is no peace for the wicked,” says my God.
Hi ladies,
Having issues watching the vlog today - have to try again later.
Donna - just wanted to say thank you for your suggestion re thyroid problems. I have had mine checked a few times - comes up clean - which again is good news. I have a lot of muscle and joint pain, and nerve pain down my leg. Some of it is from past injuries, some of it - they just don't know. I have been to doctors, physio, chiro, massage. You name it - I've tried it. Almost 2 years ago - I took it to the Lord and I have his promise for restoration in my life. I believe in that promise but sometimes it's hard when things seem to be getting worse not better and nobody can even tell you what's wrong.
I have a busy week ahead as I get ready for She Speaks (going to the writer's section). Can't believe it's finally here. Wendy I will be looking for you!! I am praying for God's direction in my life. His plan and purpose to reveal itself to me. My desire is to find a way to stay home with my sweet son - I am trusting in God's provision as our mat leave benefits run out this month and I have taken another year off teaching.
Anyhow - this is getting long. Have a wonderful day GIG's and FIG's.
Jodie
Morgen, the physical description of Jesus jumped out at me, too. That first part about Him being 'disfigured' sounded so ugly to me - I've never considered that before! Not that it changes anything, of course - but I mean that I've always thought of Him as scarred on our behalf, and that those scars must be beautiful and painful to God - beautiful b/c His son was willing to lay down His life out of love, and painful because it was so necessary. Yet this almost makes it sound as if He was physically ugly even before He was beaten, and that bothers me. I guess I feel defensive - how dare anyone call my Jesus ugly? How could anyone possibly be more beautiful? and yet I understand what it means - His outward physical appearance did nothing to attract people to Him and combined with His message sent many into a tizzy. Still, though ... I don't like that part.
55:2 jumped out at me, too. Why do we stress so about getting to eat what we're craving or eating that 'new' food when He's given us so much wonderful, healthy food? Why do I waste money on food (think: chocolate!) that does nothing for me physically and makes me weaker, less able to do what God has called me to do? Still working on this one, as you can see!
Praying for the new requests that popped up while I was gone .. I've caught up on most of the comments ...
Have an apology to make, as well. I hope you'll all forgive me. I'm not good with words and this just occurred to me a bit ago. I was excited when I realized that Lori and I would be gone at the same time b/c then I wouldn't miss all of your posts AND all of hers. It's not that I value some of you more than others; I just hate to miss anything and since we were vacationing at the same time, there was one less daily post that I would be missing out on. I hope that makes sense. I'm not good with words and somehow seem to mess them up often. I'm sorry.
My kids are now happily staying with their Papa and Grandma for the week, and I'm back in NC to pack for our PA vacation next week. The house is too quiet without them!
Sharing this from Chuck Missler re Jesus' face and why he was not recognized during the resurrection:
His Unfamiliar Face
by Chuck Missler
After Jesus resurrection, why did people always seem to have difficulty recognizing Him? We cant help but notice something strange about Jesus post-resurrection appearances.
Sunday Morning
That early Sunday morning, even Mary fails to recognize Jesus at first (John 20:11-18). She mistakes Him for the gardener - until she hears His voice. She was no casual acquaintance: a few days earlier she washed His feet with her tears! Why didn't she know who He was until she heard His voice? It seems that Mary! prompted her recognition (John 20:16).
Sunday Afternoon
Later that afternoon, Jesus joined two disciples on the Emmaus Road, and for seven miles He gives them an Old Testament Bible study (Luke 24:13-32).
Although their eyes were holden that they should not know Him, the Bible doesn't really explain what this means (Luke 24:16, 31). In any case, they did recognize Him when He broke the bread at dinner. (This itself is odd, since it was the role of the host - not the guest - to break the bread.) Their tip-off was in viewing the nail prints in His hands. (They confirmed this later that evening.)
Sunday Evening
These two disciples join the gathering that evening in the upper room and confirm His appearance, emphasizing that it was in the breaking of the bread that they realized who He was (Luke 24:35, 39). Why not during the seven-mile walk? What is going on here?
When Jesus ultimately emerges in their midst, we find them all terrified (Luke 24:36, 37). Astonished, of course, but why frightened? For some reason they don't recognize Him until they examine His wounds! Why?
The Galilean Breakfast
Perhaps the most puzzling thing occurs later at the Sea of Galilee (John 21:1-12). When they join Him for that early morning breakfast on the seashore, John makes the strangest remark: And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord (John 21:12). What does that mean?
- continued -
A Possible Clue
We should remember that the Bible is a single, integrated message - 66 books, penned by over 40 authors over thousands of years, but in which every detail is there by supernatural engineering. Thus, we also need to recognize that:
The New Testament is in the Old Testament concealed; the Old Testament is in the New Testament revealed.
There are many surprising insights and details in the Old Testament which amplify the New, including some astonishing physical descriptions.
A familiar example is Psalm 22, which reads as if it were dictated by Jesus Himself as He hung on the cross. He describes His pain and the piercing of His hands and feet (Psalm 22:16). He quotes the taunts of the crowd (Psalm 22:7, 8) and observes the parting of His clothes, (Psalm 22:18) etc. The Psalm even opens and closes with His first and final words from the cross (Psalm 22:1: My God, My God, Why hast thou forsaken me? (The only time He didnt call Him Father!) Cf. Matthew 27:46; Mark 15:34. Psalm 22:31: He hath done this; or, better, It is complete, It is finished. Tetelestai: Paid in full. John 19:30 ).
Another such passage is Isaiah 53 (Beginning, actually, at Isaiah 52:13ff). This passage, sometimes called The Holy of Holies of the Old Testament, highlights the implications of the cross as eloquently as any of Pauls epistles. In Isaiah 52:14, however, it specifies that the extent of the abuse left Jesus hardly even looking human.
Yet another most disturbing detail appears a page earlier:
I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair.
Isaiah 50:6
This seems to indicate that the Roman soldiers ripped off His beard! No wonder His friends had trouble recognizing Him!
I had an occasion some years ago to work with a software specialist who wore a very full beard. One day he came to work with it shaved off. I almost didn't recognize him! It is surprising what a difference a single feature like that can make.
(And this didn't involve any scar tissue or other evidences of abuse resulting from treatment received at the hands of vicious Roman soldiers.)
An Emblem of Love
I am reminded of a young mother whose face was badly disfigured. Her little girl was continually ridiculed by the children in school because of her mothers appearance. (You know how cruel children can be.)
When the little girl was old enough, the mother explained to her that when she was a baby there was a dreadful fire in the apartment and, although the mother was able to save the little girl, the mother herself suffered very severe burns in the process.
From that day on, the little girl was no longer embarrassed about her mother. Every time she looked into her mothers face it was a reminder of just how much she was loved.
Is it possible that, in addition to the nail prints, there were additional scars - perhaps where His beard used to be - that caused their difficulty in recognizing Him? Are they still there? Does Jesus still bear the marks of His humiliation?
In the Book of Revelation, John is propelled forward in time some several thousand years and is granted a vision of the throne of God. In Revelation 5 we find the Lamb as it had been slain, apparently still bearing the scars of the cross (Revelation 5:1-5). They say that the only man-made things in heaven are His scars.
When Jesus returns to rule Israel, He proclaims, And they shall look upon me whom they have pierced (Zechariah 12:10).
The marks of His humiliation are also the marks of His glory. Furthermore, Im sure the most significant aspects of the cross were not the physical or physiological aspects. I believe it will take us an eternity to even begin to understand what it cost Him that we might be with Him.
He was born of a woman so that we could be born of God. He humbled Himself so that we could be lifted up. He became a servant so that we could be made co-heirs. He suffered rejection so that we could become His friends.
How precious our Redeemer is! Have you really thanked Him lately?
Wow G&P...thank you for sharing that! It filled me up just reading it.
Jekka...I hear ya sister. What you are experiencing I experienced exactly the same thing last week...really bad! I actually thought I was losing it cuz my mind was wandering and thinking negative thoughts constantly!
I can only tell you what helped me:
I repented of any sins...I realized that I had gotten off the path Jesus set before me; and I asked God to help me get my routine with Him going again. I got off track after a long vacation and my spiritual life was barely chugging along. Honestly, and I don't blame satan for everything cuz in my flesh I am quite able to go astray all by myself; but I felt under spiritual attack, and I think it's because I opened a space in my head where his thoughts crept in...I need to fill it constantly with God's word, prayer, praise music, talking to other believers, etc...
I feel lifted and connected once again.
Morgen
Nuggets:
Isaiah 55:9-My ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
Isaiah 56:4- I will bless those who keep my Sabbath day Holy, who choose to do what pleases me and commit their lives to me.
Always do what is just and fair and right and good. Thank you for your righteousness Lord.
Praise the Holy One of Israel.
Love, Debra
Grace & Peace, thank you for that phenomenal post! We can always depend on you to do the digging and give us the research. Thank you, sister.
Morgen, thank you for sharing with us what you went through following your long vacation. It may help any of us in the future if life gets us off track. I imagine that can happen easily. I'm with you. I have to keep my head filled with reading, prayer, songs, etc. And I LIKE it that way! It feels very right.
See you all in the morning.
Peace and Gratitude,
Michelle in New England
G&P...I came back to see if the vlog was working (it is) and thank you so much for the commentary...so much to think about...thank you for sharing
